Aeropostale: Meet DeAndre Yedlin
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Isn't this company going out of business? At least it is where I live. Could be bad timing for DAY! lol -
So, I would say that Mavs Carter's decision to take the Nike internship kind-of paid off!

2016 Zips in Pro Leagues Domestic & International
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
As a long-time Black Cats fan, I was watching young master Yedlin's progress with much interest! When he arrived the concern was whether he could handle the pressure of Premier League forwards, and not gift opponents goals. Clearly, he measured up to that test remarkably. His steady back-line defense was consistently solid by any standard. Now, DeAndre must turn himself into a wide back who -- with pace as strong as any in the league -- is able to threaten opposing defenders in the penalty area. Honestly, his attacking central passes rarely threatened defenses, and he must learn the 'tricks-of-the-trade', if he is to become the world-class footballer we all know he can be. Meanwhile, sign the paper, young man, so I can order that #24 red-and-white stripe shirt! Guy Ellis -- an American private equity funder should be able to afford a couple million pounds. But, with one of the leakiest defenses this season, I hope he also brings in some experienced CFs. Then Sunderland can set trail to be "the Leicester of 17". -
Zakuani to hang up the spikes
Z.I.P. replied to bmaker's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Stevie Z.? He's really not gone at all. And his Kingdom Hope foundation is growing the roots of an academy. Sounders legends, former MLS stars gather for second annual Zakuani & Friends Charity Match http://www.soundersfc.com/post/2016/05/15/sounders-legends-former-mls-stars-gather-second-annual-zakuani-friends-charity-match (Looking for any appearance from my isle homie Zach Scott of Sounders and Maui HS.) -
He's a 53.3% career free throw shooter. Should fit right in in the blue and gold!

Georgetown in Akron's tournament, yes, but remember Seattle defeated UCLA in the NCAA's second round last year and won 18 games. Note that we play as many teams from the Pac-12 as the BIG 10 this year. Let's get good road crowds @ SDSU and UCLA.

Interviews with Coach Embick
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
If American college soccer were really helping develop world class players, there would be a lot more of those Genk and Bayern youth wanting to cross the Atlantic to play and get a world class education. If US soccer is to ever seriously compete for World Cup titles, collegiate soccer will be like college baseball, with not many top domestic players included. But we lack a domestic league with that mindset, as Jared rightly pointed out. -
So, what you're telling us is he has the same opinion of himself that some on this board have about Akron basketball. Who do you think is more delusional?

Confused -- has the Katie King tweet been taken down? Is Adam back or not?
-
This is like a basketball player who declares for the draft, and returns without securing an agent -- except he got to go to "camp" in Europe! Welcome back Adam!!!
-
UCLA's recruiter took the head job at U of Portland. Will be interesting to see if Saucedo can recruit/produce without him.

When was anything like #1 done? If they choose that, I'll probably pay $40 bucks for tix again, just to get the scarf. Haven't done so the past two years.

What chance would UA stand of hosting the NCAA Indoor T&C Championship? Is the Styles large enough?

Wadz, Mahalo for sneaking over to our side! I believe John Nelson has already signed a pro contract in Europe. Can anyone remind us with whom? Edit: From Tenn Zip: I think Wadszip might have been asking about this young man....on the u-20 team John Nelson (Internationals SC; Medina, OH), if you were, John Nelson is a high school junior....and he is the #1 rated high school junior. From what I have read, Nelson wants to play in Europe as soon as he is done with high school. The top 7 or 8 ranked players in the country have all been bypassing college. This year, Emmanuel Sabbi is ranked #11 or #13 (depending on ranking) and he is the 3rd highest ranked player that will be attending college.

This just in: We have IMG's National Youth Player of the Year! Emmanuel Sabbi! http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer-articles/club-poty:-sanchez-sabbi-go-international_aid39013 Edit: Reading it more closely, it appears this is only the author's suggestion... But a strong case can be made, given his scoring abilities.

Just from curiosity -- does Akron WOMEN'S soccer not play a Spring sked? Another hole in Gozips.com...

Isn't there a school named "Buffalo State University? If you were around in 1971, you should know that "Buffalo State" was one of the Zips rivals in the Wyatt Webb era. That's not what "Buffalo" has become, is it?- 55 replies

Bulls vs Zips @ the Q - March 12th at 7:30
Z.I.P. replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Predictions: If Kwan makes the first 3-pointer he shoots he will make more than one, and Zips Win! If Akron makes 12 or more 3-point baskets, Zips Win, going away! If Big Dog shoots more than ten free throws tonight, and makes 75%, Zips Win! If UB shoots below 50% or below 40% on 3-pointers, Zips Win! -
Teamrankings.com gives Akron a 67.5% chance of winning today, and an 89% chance of making the NCAA tourney! So that seems to sound like they consider us a strong at-large bidder. Sorry to GoZips and his team from Cowlumbus! https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/matchup/bulls-zips-2016-03-12/efficiency/?utm_campaign=autoemails&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ncb_postgame_projections_update&utm_content=20160312&utm_term=Akron

I may just turn off the audio! Can't get worse than listening to those clowns! This website makes us a 85.5% favorite to win today, 58% chance of winning the MAC, AND a 50/50 shot of getting an at-large selection if we lose @Cleveland! And they project Akron as a 10 seed! https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/matchup/falcons-zips-2016-03-11/efficiency/?utm_campaign=autoemails&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ncb_postgame_projections_update&utm_content=20160311&utm_term=Akron- 55 replies

SPEAKING of which...WHERE on Earth did TWC find those two loser commentators?? Totally unprepared and ill-knowledged to call a tournament game! Was that color guy Steve Mix, the former Chicago Bull? IAC, when time out was called with Akron down by 10-12 late, he said -- "If I were the coach, I would take Johnson out of the game -- he hasn't done anything on offense or defense". As soon as Big Dog scored the next two baskets, the guy mischaracterizes his own statement and says "See -- sometimes you have to tell a player, 'either start playing or you're coming out'." So he took credit for Isaiah's baskets after telling the coach to bench him! Question: DID EMU take the technical foul INTENTIONALLY?? Did they admit that? If so (or even if not) I know how the rule can be changed -- Guess who is Chairman of the NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee? One Keith Dambrot! EDIT -- Okay, just watched the replay -- NOT intentional, just stupid!

I'm not afraid to admit it. I became a religious man today! When the time out was called in the second half, when we went down ten (?), I could hear Keith all the way from Honolulu saying to his players, "We don't get a second chance!" Well, with the good Lord's help -- and a lot of support from Eastern Michigan, we get to keep playing tomorrow! Those Eagles tried so many times to GIVE away the game, and Akron refused to take it! But, somehow, some way, we got over the hump on Thursday (they might have played the GEICO commercial, but every ad (on ESPN Xtra) was for ESPN). I suspect EMU was adopting Akron football's strategy of "Run out the Clock" with six minutes to play, and it blew back on them. We all need to play like Akron Futbol, and 1.) Never stop working. and 2.) When you DO need to run out the clock on your last possession, "take the ball to the corner", rather than trying to score! Thoughts: If Reggie had not bent his knees so deep, he would have received the "Charge" call -- but when a player is bent over like that he will always get a "block" foul. There's a reason why (I think) four centers made First Team all-MAC. Thompson, Hall, Campbell and Johnson are all Big Time players, and Akron has fits stopping them! Take nothing away from Thompson (or Hall for that matter), without them their team(s) would be far worse. EDIT: ALSO -- with 14:30 to play (I'm watching the replay right now) Reggie took a three from the top left of the basket and got CLOBBERED, but no foul was called -- possibly a make up for the previous 3-point foul that was called and the replay showed a block? Now, I see NO WAY we can play another game as bad as the last two. Let's take charge of our destiny, Akron!

That's an exaggeration! She only had 92, per this story! http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/bianca-helps-middlesbrough-college-girls-9115498 I'm trying to remember the name of the Central-Hower player who came to UA around 1980. I think he scored over 100 goals in one year, but that was the first year Ohio HSs were more or less mandated to have boys soccer teams, and I think for example, he scored 12 goals in a 20-0 win over Coventry! Genius Bob Dowdy immediately moved him to CB! He went on to play for the Canton Invaders in the "other indoor league". Come on fknbuflobo, tell us his name!
