Peter Agba transferring to Rochester College
Z.I.P. replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Just an FYI -- this is Rochester College in greater Detroit. Not the Rochester Institute of Technology, the high IQ school in NY. FWIW -- I was confused myself until I looked it up. -
College Sports Madness ranks Akron #82
Z.I.P. replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
From the article: "Ty Dalton is another big guard who can score in bunches and Marquelle McIntyre and Peter Agba figure to add emergency depth to the perimeter." I would feel better about the author's knowledge if he knew who our players are? Never heard of the first two. The third is in New York. Anybody heard of McIntyre or Dalton? -
Here's hoping Shaka shows them no mercy!

2017 Zips soccer recruiting
Z.I.P. replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Here's what TDS wrote about young Mr Kamal: (BTW, I can't remember Akron ever or at least recently having a Scott Gallagher player -- that's a GREAT program -- one that Indiana has long had a pipeline to.) Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal, Midfielder, St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro IMG Academy 150: #81 Class: 2017 Commitment: Akron Given the program’s disposition towards the technical elements of the beautiful game, it’s never surprising to see the nation’s best creative players flock to Akron. The latest if one of the best in his class: Malaysian-American midfielder Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal out of St. Louis powerhouse Scott Gallagher. -
Just wait four years -- that's his eventual distance. He'll probably concentrate on that after Rio.

May be the first offer to a class of 2018 player. Per his twitter account, 6-2/6-3 SG Mike Bothwell has been offered by Akron. https://twitter.com/MikeBothwell_3/status/751503076591276032/photo/1 The two-time Ohio Div IV state POY, Bothwell from Cornerstone Christian in Willoughby has D1 offers from UA plus Oakland and Longwood. No high D1 interest shown yet, except Davidson, who haven't offered. A very smooth shooting ace, Bothwell put up 71 points (41/30) in back-to-back games (quarter-semifinals) of the state tourney in March. http://www.news-herald.com/article/HR/20160311/SPORTS/160319854

Lots of Twitter action on Clayton's trials victory. Clayton was trending for a couple hours. How many of you know the man who presented him with the trials gold medal -- Dave Wottle? Canton and BGSU product. Here he is winning the US' last gold medal in the 800 at Munich in '72.

Yo, Nation Admins, What's up with this anyway? For about the last month I've been unable to post on the site, because I can't scroll to the bottom where you input text. Whether you use the mouse to drag, or the roller it jumps up before it gets to the bottom and won't allow me to keep the cursor in the text box. That's just when I try to respond. No problem making this new thread! edit: It now appears that the problem is just on the basketball and soccer boards! Which only occupies 99% of my time on here...

Aeropostale: Meet DeAndre Yedlin
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Isn't this company going out of business? At least it is where I live. Could be bad timing for DAY! lol -
So, I would say that Mavs Carter's decision to take the Nike internship kind-of paid off!

2016 Zips in Pro Leagues Domestic & International
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
As a long-time Black Cats fan, I was watching young master Yedlin's progress with much interest! When he arrived the concern was whether he could handle the pressure of Premier League forwards, and not gift opponents goals. Clearly, he measured up to that test remarkably. His steady back-line defense was consistently solid by any standard. Now, DeAndre must turn himself into a wide back who -- with pace as strong as any in the league -- is able to threaten opposing defenders in the penalty area. Honestly, his attacking central passes rarely threatened defenses, and he must learn the 'tricks-of-the-trade', if he is to become the world-class footballer we all know he can be. Meanwhile, sign the paper, young man, so I can order that #24 red-and-white stripe shirt! Guy Ellis -- an American private equity funder should be able to afford a couple million pounds. But, with one of the leakiest defenses this season, I hope he also brings in some experienced CFs. Then Sunderland can set trail to be "the Leicester of 17". -
Zakuani to hang up the spikes
Z.I.P. replied to bmaker's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Stevie Z.? He's really not gone at all. And his Kingdom Hope foundation is growing the roots of an academy. Sounders legends, former MLS stars gather for second annual Zakuani & Friends Charity Match http://www.soundersfc.com/post/2016/05/15/sounders-legends-former-mls-stars-gather-second-annual-zakuani-friends-charity-match (Looking for any appearance from my isle homie Zach Scott of Sounders and Maui HS.) -
He's a 53.3% career free throw shooter. Should fit right in in the blue and gold!

Georgetown in Akron's tournament, yes, but remember Seattle defeated UCLA in the NCAA's second round last year and won 18 games. Note that we play as many teams from the Pac-12 as the BIG 10 this year. Let's get good road crowds @ SDSU and UCLA.

Interviews with Coach Embick
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
If American college soccer were really helping develop world class players, there would be a lot more of those Genk and Bayern youth wanting to cross the Atlantic to play and get a world class education. If US soccer is to ever seriously compete for World Cup titles, collegiate soccer will be like college baseball, with not many top domestic players included. But we lack a domestic league with that mindset, as Jared rightly pointed out. -
So, what you're telling us is he has the same opinion of himself that some on this board have about Akron basketball. Who do you think is more delusional?

Confused -- has the Katie King tweet been taken down? Is Adam back or not?
-
This is like a basketball player who declares for the draft, and returns without securing an agent -- except he got to go to "camp" in Europe! Welcome back Adam!!!
-
UCLA's recruiter took the head job at U of Portland. Will be interesting to see if Saucedo can recruit/produce without him.

When was anything like #1 done? If they choose that, I'll probably pay $40 bucks for tix again, just to get the scarf. Haven't done so the past two years.

What chance would UA stand of hosting the NCAA Indoor T&C Championship? Is the Styles large enough?

Wadz, Mahalo for sneaking over to our side! I believe John Nelson has already signed a pro contract in Europe. Can anyone remind us with whom? Edit: From Tenn Zip: I think Wadszip might have been asking about this young man....on the u-20 team John Nelson (Internationals SC; Medina, OH), if you were, John Nelson is a high school junior....and he is the #1 rated high school junior. From what I have read, Nelson wants to play in Europe as soon as he is done with high school. The top 7 or 8 ranked players in the country have all been bypassing college. This year, Emmanuel Sabbi is ranked #11 or #13 (depending on ranking) and he is the 3rd highest ranked player that will be attending college.

This just in: We have IMG's National Youth Player of the Year! Emmanuel Sabbi! http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer-articles/club-poty:-sanchez-sabbi-go-international_aid39013 Edit: Reading it more closely, it appears this is only the author's suggestion... But a strong case can be made, given his scoring abilities.

Just from curiosity -- does Akron WOMEN'S soccer not play a Spring sked? Another hole in Gozips.com...
