Mike, this is ZipinParadise. We met @ your fave pizza joint in 2010. Apparently, the UA doesn't like the University of California system. The UC-Riverside complained on Twitter today that their women's team didn't even have a gametracker working for today's game vs the Zips. They took it out on my alma mater by a 3-0 score. Hope the Gauchos won't continue that motivation tomorrow. Well, at least, I have a shot at redemption in Big West women's soccer as both UC teams come to Hawaii this season. I hope to return to Harder next year with the Rainbow Wahine. It's on the way to wine tasting in Santa Ynez.

In past years Akron claimed the BIG men's soccer championship. This year -- PAC-10 or West Coast champs? I think we could go undefeated in those games. Looking at the schedule, I can't help thinking the toughest part may be the trip in three weeks to Okla (@Tulsa) and Texas (@SMU). But that's still a ways off! So, it sounds like no one here is going to Cali? Who's going to monitor LosAngelesZipsFan's attendance?

The best thing Grand Canyon has going for it's soccer program is coach Schellas Hyndmann, former MLS coach of FC Dallas, and before that, long-time and very successful coach at SMU. His son, Emerson BTW is a potential USMNT player, who plays for Bournemouth in the Premier League. GCU is the only collegiate men's soccer program in AZ, excepting JCs (Yavapai is the national power). And, regarding UCLA's Drake Field, the stadium is very poorly cared for, and is being replaced by a new facility that will seat about 3000, which is plenty more than the program (sadly) needs. I've watched many Bruins men's and women's games at Drake on Pac12 network, and I always see fans seated in temporary bleachers that sit alongside the pitch. Not sure what the state of the concrete stands is. If you attend the game this weekend, you can probably see the new stadium under construction. It's funded to about 20 mill by the Annenberg Foundation. I was really looking forward to the trip and seeing the UCLA campus, including the botanical gardens that Bill Walton raved about on TV last BB season, but won't be able to make it. I hope the Zips will be allowed back after this game. Coach Salcedo's team did not look at all good vs Maryland Fri nite, and I fear for his boys vs the nation's #1 ranked team, looking for a pay-back for last October. Of course, it could just be a case of their continued inconsistent play -- carrying over from last year. We'll find out after we warm up vs the Aztecs. I have to admit, I'd never heard of Ben Lundt before the GU game! He was playing where last year -- in NAIA?!? Kudos to that Embick bellow and his GK coach -- whoever spotted him! He looks like a "keeper"!

Thanks -- I suppose the TV broadcast can be confusing. Your ref to UCSB sounds like the NCAA will go to a venue "rotation", ala the British Open golf. Hope that are a couple West Coast locations. BTW -- sorry I won't be able to make the Zips trip to SoCal next month. Just not able to work the sked out. I expect the team to return to the W Coast more often/years than not.

That may have been the PAID ATTENDANCE, but from al TV indications there were from a few hundred to couple thousand actually at Sporting Park. But, nonetheless, the NCAA would want to have the College Cup at a venue that could attract at least 10k.

I discovered this Sports Illustrated article today, and I think it clearly deserves its own thread -- and also I have that problem with the page jumping around when I try to scroll to the bottom... I couldn't find anything on this issue elsewhere on this site. Anyone see anything in BigSoccer? Crossfire United, the Seattle-based youth soccer club that DeAndre Yedlin played on for (according to this) four years, is essentially taking MLS to court to collect a FIFA-mandated portion of DA's transfer fee from SSFC to Tottenham Hotspur FC. The article indicates that Hotspur first tried to also pay off the University of Akron for their part of Yedlin's development "rights" -- but parties at the UA said "Naaaah!" and called MSL to alert them to the money Akron didn't want! It states in the article that the "solidarity fee" due under FIFA rules to youth development clubs is 5% of the transfer fee. 5% of what I believe was 3.5 million Pounds Sterling amounts to, um, a good chunk of cheese. About 175,000 pounds, or more than 230 grand in American bucks. How that is divided between multiple development clubs is not determined. I imagine that over time, if these fees added up, they could add up into the millions of dollars! For both American universities AND youth soccer clubs. I would feel better about the author's knowledge if he knew who our players are? Never heard of the first two. The third is in New York. Anybody heard of McIntyre or Dalton?

Yo, Nation Admins, What's up with this anyway? For about the last month I've been unable to post on the site, because I can't scroll to the bottom where you input text. Whether you use the mouse to drag, or the roller it jumps up before it gets to the bottom and won't allow me to keep the cursor in the text box. That's just when I try to respond. No problem making this new thread! edit: It now appears that the problem is just on the basketball and soccer boards! Which only occupies 99% of my time on here...
