  1. Source says that winner HOSTS winner of Florida-N.Florida game. No, GoZips is NOT my source, so there! On Primary Tuesday, let's make the Suckeyes #FeelTheBern!
  2. In fact, here are the Bengals now! http://www.buffalostateathletics.com/index.aspx?path=mbball&
  3. Isn't there a school named "Buffalo State University? If you were around in 1971, you should know that "Buffalo State" was one of the Zips rivals in the Wyatt Webb era. That's not what "Buffalo" has become, is it?
  4. Predictions: If Kwan makes the first 3-pointer he shoots he will make more than one, and Zips Win! If Akron makes 12 or more 3-point baskets, Zips Win, going away! If Big Dog shoots more than ten free throws tonight, and makes 75%, Zips Win! If UB shoots below 50% or below 40% on 3-pointers, Zips Win!
  5. Teamrankings.com gives Akron a 67.5% chance of winning today, and an 89% chance of making the NCAA tourney! So that seems to sound like they consider us a strong at-large bidder. Sorry to GoZips and his team from Cowlumbus! https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/matchup/bulls-zips-2016-03-12/efficiency/?utm_campaign=autoemails&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ncb_postgame_projections_update&utm_content=20160312&utm_term=Akron
  6. I may just turn off the audio! Can't get worse than listening to those clowns! This website makes us a 85.5% favorite to win today, 58% chance of winning the MAC, AND a 50/50 shot of getting an at-large selection if we lose @Cleveland! And they project Akron as a 10 seed! https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/matchup/falcons-zips-2016-03-11/efficiency/?utm_campaign=autoemails&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ncb_postgame_projections_update&utm_content=20160311&utm_term=Akron
  7. SPEAKING of which...WHERE on Earth did TWC find those two loser commentators?? Totally unprepared and ill-knowledged to call a tournament game! Was that color guy Steve Mix, the former Chicago Bull? IAC, when time out was called with Akron down by 10-12 late, he said -- "If I were the coach, I would take Johnson out of the game -- he hasn't done anything on offense or defense". As soon as Big Dog scored the next two baskets, the guy mischaracterizes his own statement and says "See -- sometimes you have to tell a player, 'either start playing or you're coming out'." So he took credit for Isaiah's baskets after telling the coach to bench him! Question: DID EMU take the technical foul INTENTIONALLY?? Did they admit that? If so (or even if not) I know how the rule can be changed -- Guess who is Chairman of the NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee? One Keith Dambrot! EDIT -- Okay, just watched the replay -- NOT intentional, just stupid!
  8. I'm not afraid to admit it. I became a religious man today! When the time out was called in the second half, when we went down ten (?), I could hear Keith all the way from Honolulu saying to his players, "We don't get a second chance!" Well, with the good Lord's help -- and a lot of support from Eastern Michigan, we get to keep playing tomorrow! Those Eagles tried so many times to GIVE away the game, and Akron refused to take it! But, somehow, some way, we got over the hump on Thursday (they might have played the GEICO commercial, but every ad (on ESPN Xtra) was for ESPN). I suspect EMU was adopting Akron football's strategy of "Run out the Clock" with six minutes to play, and it blew back on them. We all need to play like Akron Futbol, and 1.) Never stop working. and 2.) When you DO need to run out the clock on your last possession, "take the ball to the corner", rather than trying to score! Thoughts: If Reggie had not bent his knees so deep, he would have received the "Charge" call -- but when a player is bent over like that he will always get a "block" foul. There's a reason why (I think) four centers made First Team all-MAC. Thompson, Hall, Campbell and Johnson are all Big Time players, and Akron has fits stopping them! Take nothing away from Thompson (or Hall for that matter), without them their team(s) would be far worse. EDIT: ALSO -- with 14:30 to play (I'm watching the replay right now) Reggie took a three from the top left of the basket and got CLOBBERED, but no foul was called -- possibly a make up for the previous 3-point foul that was called and the replay showed a block? Now, I see NO WAY we can play another game as bad as the last two. Let's take charge of our destiny, Akron!
  9. That's an exaggeration! She only had 92, per this story! http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/bianca-helps-middlesbrough-college-girls-9115498 I'm trying to remember the name of the Central-Hower player who came to UA around 1980. I think he scored over 100 goals in one year, but that was the first year Ohio HSs were more or less mandated to have boys soccer teams, and I think for example, he scored 12 goals in a 20-0 win over Coventry! Genius Bob Dowdy immediately moved him to CB! He went on to play for the Canton Invaders in the "other indoor league". Come on fknbuflobo, tell us his name!
  10. He's now property of Seattle Sounders Academy. how long did he spend in WA? Well, whatever...;)
  11. Here's what I will be relying on: ESPN Extra. Available to (most) all Time Warner Cable subscribers nationally. And a few others...! http://espn.go.com/espncollegeextra/#schedule Win Saturday, and I may see you in Spokane next week! lol
  12. Regarding MAC tourney TV coverage. Last year ALL of Akron's tournament games were broadcast nationally on the ESPN Extra system, which is available on Time Warner Cable and a few other cable systems. No sure yet about tonight's early round games, since I haven't looked. However, I've only found ONE Zips game on that format this year -- the season opener @SUCanada at Buffalo. Compared to over 10 last year and about 15 two yrs ago. Very strange!
  13. Alright! When I started reading this it appeared to be yet another effort by an ill-informed out-of-towner to continue the "Fable of LeBron". Thankfully it quickly diverted to become the BEST article on LBJ, KD AND the history of Akron basketball that I have yet read! Congratulations to the author -- a Northwestern U senior. I wonder, how many of you know about the Firestone Non-Skids and Goodyear Wingfoots being original members of the NBA (or NBL as it first was)? I've been studying Akron's place in basketball history for a few years now, with the assistance of an acquaintance I made, who happens to be one of the greatest minds in basketball history -- Akron native, former Kent State HC and Los Angeles Lakers 88 y.o. Director of Scouting Bill Bertka. Bill played bb in his youth during the WWII era at the old Akron 'Y' with the game's early stars, who were members of these pre-NBA professional teams. Here's a recent article from the NBA website about this legendary figure who may become the first lifetime assistant coach to make the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. http://www.nba.com/lakers/news/160303_billBertka
  14. THAT was an amazing victory! Did Anyone think we could shoot 7 of 33 threes and come away with a 14 point win?!?! A tribute to our bench, and the supply of guards we can rotate in. Akron's bench outscored Kent's 34-15 In the first half, ESPN showed the Huggins banner hanging and talked about the young Huggy taking Akron to its first Big Dance. The announcers missed a chance to pose the trivia question: "Who was the Akron football coach when Huggins was coaching basketball?" They could have then panned to the shot of Gerry Faust sitting behind the Akron bench for the answer!
  15. Here's the NCAA Three-Pointers Made list -- not including tonight's game. We have a chance of catching North Florida, especially the way we're playing right now. https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/stat/three-pointers-made-per-game
  16. I'll make this a combination post of multiple ideas: Tonight we proved that not only can we beat a good team without two centers, we can beat one with just half-a-center! Isaiah had 1 point at the half, and 2 pts midway thru the second. Now, going forward, I would hope that that trend does not continue. Strangely, it seemed that tonight BOTH teams had little post play -- and when it comes to the perimeter, I'll take Akron's play over about anybodys! Murray Bartow on the ESPN2 broadcast stated (kudos BTW to ASN -- the broadcast was as good or better than the REAL ESPN) that in the post-season, if Akron hoped to get very far, they would have to tighten up their 3-point defense! I recall pretty surely that our team was ranked near the top of the nation in 3-point defense just a couple weeks ago. So, I am less concerned than the " expert analyst". What is the story with Kaminsky's T-shirt? ONE sleeve? Looked like his arm was in a sling. #NotTrending!
  17. I'll go with Whitford this year, and Steve Hawkins next year (Comeback Coach of the Year).
  18. FWIW, I Just saw a tweet from @Kent State, that our Wagon Wheel matchup next season is at Dix Stadium on Oct 1st. Can anyone confirm. Edit, Never mind. Found the sked in another thread. My bad!
  19. Slightly OT, but when I was tweeting @Yedlinny today after SAFC's draw with Crystal Palace, which saw them clear of the relegation zone for maybe the first time all season, I couldn't help noticing in DA's photos a shot of him and "Uncle" flashing some true #UglySweaters at the Wearside pad over the Christmas season. Check it out next time you visit the Tweeting post. Tweeting post! lol -- it was the Canaries of Norwich who Sunderland pushed into the drop zone today! Wish I could remember Uncle's handle at Zipsnation. Anyone?
  20. On your birthday, Aloha and "Hauoli La Hanau", Ohio. Now Go Zips!!!
  21. #ThisIsIt #TitleNight
  22. Noticed that the ESPN3 broadcast is about 2-4 minutes behind the UAkron stat feed. Gozips.com.
  23. Thank you, Captain Obvious!
  24. Don't give up on th I s team -- they can score points in a hurry. Meanwhile, can you young techies tell me why all the ads on ESPN3 are for small businesses in L.A.?
  25. Here's what I want to know: Why, after Big Dog's basket, does ESPN3 go to a commercial for a mattress company in Los Angeles??
