  1. UA has nothing to do with the project. It's a private developer who is going to lease the to students.
  2. Seems like a really good place to put a new arena someday ...try a block north of there...
  3. That's part of the new retail/student apartment complex a developer is building. The whole block except the hi-rise is scheduled to be replaced and the old Howe house moved near the canal.
  4. Might work for football, but I bet it'd be a nightmare for bball. They need the conference for the tourney auto bid right now. Don't forget, UConn and Cinci have had success in their basketball programs that allow them to draw the $$ to put into their football programs.
  5. Rumor has it they will. I'm not sure if there is another building planned for there or just green space.
  6. Wow! That will really take away some of the inner-city campus feel with the green space leading up to the back side of Buchtel!
  7. Middlebury Marketplace is where Exchange/E. Market/Arlington come together...in the rather rough Middlebury neighborhood of Akron. That area's been rough since the 70's... the 1870's to be exact.
  8. Many of the dormies are semi-local (i.e. Canton) and go home each weekend. The real trick is getting them to want to stick around. Maybe the higher gas prices will keep more of them on campus over the weekend or will put more on campus because it's cheaper than commuting.
  9. That spot would be in the back rows of the lower section. No way their putting a light poll there. That notch out of the slope has been bugging me though. You're right... it should be in front of the lower section at the 50...
  10. Looks like the footer for the light pole in the lower right corner of cam 2 Glad to see something from the RB come into the Info
  11. This adds a little more credence to my initial suspicion. I have to believe that the Zips will be playing host to Jamie Dixon's Pitt Panthers at the Q next season. A lot of us remember the Jerome Lane-lead Panthers eeking out a close win over Huggins crew in the 80's. If true, I think this is a great matchup/opportunity. But, having grown up in Western Pa, I might be a little biased. That was my suspicion also, and I like the idea. It would be even nicer if that was a true home game in a new arena and a conference game to boot! I think they could be a great rivalry for us.
  12. So, we finally btoke the ban on playing BCS teams? Or is the home-and-home policy still in effect, and we somehow finally managed to get those arrogant teams to come to the JAR? It could be a great sign if we can get teams like that to start coming here more often. Also, there are only two HUGE teams only a busride away that I can see coming to the Q that would be extremely exciting: OSU and Pitt. Or maybe Indiana as a stretch.Xavier would also be a possibility...
  13. What you refer to as "prancing" I believe is the doubletime chairstep marching which has been part of the (mostly) same entrance routine since Jacoboice introduced it before my time in the 80's. While I would be one of the first to scream (not that that carries any weight) if it was removed from the pregame entrance at the RB, a new stadium offers a new opportunity for a new tradition. Hopefully Mr. Karriker can be up to the task when he returns (he is returning, isn't he?).
  14. Maybe the tennis courts or the soccer stadium could be on Brown behind the Plasma Exchange...
  15. Soccer stadium plansThere's also a link on their page for the city of Akron/UA arena concept.
  16. fight team fight team all in the game win old Akron glory and fame fight team fight and play with all your might tis for the gold and blue of Akron now we're off to concure or die win for Akron hear our battle cry near give in but fight them and win for dear old Akron U.and the name of the song is "Win for Akron"hopefully our team can win more than just "One" for us lolI tried singing the suggested end for the Blue and Gold but I think it's one verse shortI've never heard those lyrics! Where did you find them? I have an old book of Buchtel College music (ca. 1916) but none of the tunes in it are in use today in any form. I may have to go through it again just for kicks.
  17. Actually I believe the words were first penned by the sisters of Tau Beta Sigma (Nat. Honorary Band Sorority) in the mid 80's.
  18. If he likes hanging out with NBA starts, maybe he can "rub elbows" with LeBron at the JAR if he comes here.
  19. Name the night. I hate that place.I'd drive up from Georgia with gas running as high as it is now just to help out and I know how to drive heavy equipment. The plasma center is a major blight in the area. I understand the need for blood. I don't understand the plasma center. I don't know how to operate heavy equipment, but I'll bring my sledge hammer! The plasma center's got to go! Don't these new townhouse/apartment plans sit on the same lot as the plasma center currently does? http://www.ci.akron.oh.us/news_releases/2005/0311.html And when on earth are they planning on beginning this development?!Phase I is already underway. Last time I drove by about 2-3 weeks ago the walls were up. With the real estate market being what it is, I don't expect the second phase to start any time soon unfortunately.Spicer Village Townhomes web pageconstruction photos
