  1. Thanks for the update!Man this work stuff really gets in the way!
  2. nice... I like the poetic license!
  3. nice article
  4. SS is too big to give up on already; especially without seeing any game time. We're going to need some size somewhere in the season, and he's a big guy and has a nice touch from close in.
  5. also on 1350 AM if you can get it (poor reception in many areas around here)
  6. IIRC, they put a fourth guy on the line part way through the game to help stop the run against Army.
  7. Thanks for the update! I hope KD can get these guys working together quickly so they can be 'cause we all know !
  8. Anyone remember the "golden bag" trophy from Giant Eagle when they took over the opening game? I think Acme was having some trouble competing with Giant Eagle and decided they couldn't afford to outbid to continue the tradition. I would suspect that is still the case and is the reason they haven't brought it back.
  9. basketball starts!
  10. Former beloved director Richard "Chief" Jackoboice passed away in 2006. He had lead the band for 23 years and was replaced in 1984 by Michael Golemo, who left about 15 yrs ago to go to Iowa State. He was followed by Barry Martin for two years (now at Grand Valley State), then the current director Galen Karriker (away working on his doctorate in conducting at Mich St). I think teh director situation that Zipseuph is referring to is the interim directors (two in two years) while Karriker has been gone. Karriker reports to Dr. Bob Jorgensen, Director of Bands.
  11. What about the lots on Market (used to be Mr. Hero and another bldg)? That would put it across the street from the new orthopaedic bldg at City and not too far from the other poly-sci and bio-eng bldgs.
  12. Another reason for the Cleveland media to ignore us.
  13. For the 1,000,000th time, there is not NCAA attendance requirement. The discounted tickets (free) were a problem because they trained the people of Akron to think it should be free to go to a Zips game. There is an attendance requirement imposed on FBS schools. Essentially, the school must have an average attendance of more than 15,000 every other year. But you are entirely correct about training people to think that Zips games should be free. It's absurd for people to complain about having to pay $15 ($12 for the ticket, $3 for parking) to see a division I-A football team.I agree with you on the ticket price issue. I'm heading to UCF to watch my son march in their band and tickets in the 2nd level in the corner of the endzone are costing me $45 each - and that's not marked up at all, it's the list price from the university! I believe ticket prices for an Aeros game are similar to UA sports also.
  14. I didn't mind Willie doing the mike at the end. What I did mind, was the instructions on how to cheer. Just start the cheer... everyone will pick up on it.

Just walking past the action from my car to the bowl, I was impressed with the atmosphere. I've only been to one other tailgate (UA at PSU a few yrs ago), and the see of people grilling and playing corn-hole was really no different than what I saw in Happy Valley.
  16. Didn't see it while I was walking from the lot past the crowds, but I was busy with alumni band.
  17. What happened there? He was much better than that his last year here. Did they move the line back from NCAA distance?
  18. More details and a comment from Bain here.
  19. Ah, the good ol' days...This city and university are definately better than what they were 25 yrs ago! I agree, I wish even half of what they've done was there when I attended. There's also been some talk of the city and the university cooperating on an arena for basketball, but that is probably at least 5 yrs away at this point.
  20. 21. Wow does that home side look like a high school stadium! An old one at that!
  22. What you are seeing was to be the first phase of redeveloping a much larger area. With the real estate and financial markets what they are, I don't know if or when there will be a next phase.
  23. Had to miss the 2nd half, but glad to see they came through. Jac looked bad throwing high to the receivers and they couldn't bring it down. What luck for the Can't guy to get those tipped passes. Thought we were done for at the half. Hope next year is better and we blow them out at the new stadium!
  24. Akron student tickets are sold out. They were selling general admission tickets to students when I was there. Zips will be highly represented. All I can say is wow. With fans like that who needs a rival? And seriously, why do they even bother with football anymore? Carducci does not have to include us in his pity party either.I'll take a rivalry with Pitt or Cinci over that. Let 'em move down to 1-AA.Sorry if I take this on a tangent, but I've been wondering: If we continue to improve, and do (please god) move on to a bigger better conference (cough-bigeast-cough)... and Can't State continues to decline... do we keep playing these bums? After awhile, doesn't playing them just validate them and make us look bad. We've beaten them, what, like 9 of the last 11 years? What if that continues? How long do we hold on to a rivalry as it dies with no hope in sight before we just take the wagon wheel and go home, or do we do that at all? They can be our warmup game to start the season!
