Yet another dorm proposed. Glad to see something might be done with that ugly old building. Not sure if it is the best idea, but I'm not against it.

Is this part of the UPAkron building that is going up already?

I get that... just sad that it destroys the connection to the past where people knew what they were. I guess the overabundance of bowls hasn't helped much either.

Maybe part of the problem with the current bowls is the commercialized naming. I realize they need the sponsors, but why can't it be "The Orange Bowl brought to you by Discover" or someyhing like that. They've lost their historical (and local) context by going with only the sponsor's name.

There is nobody in the stands there. Hope the JAR has better attendance over the break.

Throw us in that mix... not bad. Serious upgrade on hoops schedules! Football in an East/West vs Cinci, Temple, UCF, plus non-con possibilities of still beating Can't every year doesn't sound too bad. Sounds like it might even be an upgrade for the Socceroos.

I don't think their coach will be around much longer, so it may not matter. We have just as much potential with TB.

New dorms with retail on Exchange "LRC Realty also won Council's okay to build two five-story student housing units near the University of Akron. One unit will include 19,000 square feet of first-floor retail on Exchange Street. The two units together will encompass a city block, house more than 500 students and cost more than $40 million to build." In the West Side Leader, they say it is the block bounded by Exchange, Sumner, Torrey, and Allyn. I hope the businesses that are there currently have been offered spots in the retail area of this.

NZF, it's actually "Ohio's Pride", but we won't hold that against you since you are new here. It was a fun game. Wish more would have come to see it though.

I would rather have seen another building going in there than another surface lot. If they need parking, build a deck over what they already have.

I would recommend the El Convento and DO NOT RENT A CAR - not needed and the streets are very narrow (Old San Juan anyways). La Bombonera is great for breakfast (especially the mallorcas!).

I think First Energy and Gojo are also big players in downtown. First Energy had some sponsorship of the basketball team last year if I recall. I'm sure there are others downtown also (Dominion East Ohio?). And don't just limit it to companies in downtown. I'm sure there are some larger companies in the 'burbs.

That should make KD happy.

Sounds like the "Greek Village" plan resurfacing. Interesting that there is to be no parking areas for the planned residents. Saw that UA bought the Phi Sig house. Wonder if they are thinking of another parking deck on that block?
