  1. I am on the phone now asking them what is going on.
  2. it's on now. I think they had technical problems picking up the feed.Mine is still showing racing!! I wonder if it is because I have dish network?
  3. Is anyone else getting plane racing instead of the game?
  4. I think a few people warned everyone about Barley House. They honestly suck. The OBC (if they have the station) is the only place ive ever been to in Akron besides Tap House that actually puts on the Zips games. Why would you even want the sound on? That game was an embarrassment. Do you think Akron is going to GAIN fans by making them watch us get drubbed by a MAC school? Turning the audio off and taking peoples attention away from the game was probably the best thing that could have happened. I had people begging me to change the channel because they thought it was a pee wee team playing.
  5. You are not going to convince me that Tuzze, Bowser or Wagner have "given up" I HATE that term...the team has given up. You can hate it all you want, but it doesnt make it false. There are always a few guys that will play their hearts out regardless of the situation. However, a large percentage of this team has cashed it in.
  6. Did you watch the game? We didnt even belong on the same field with them. No MAC team is very good, yet we are so bad it looked like we were playing Florida. The sky isn't falling, it already fell. This team has given up. Didnt you read their body language? They dont care!
  7. Honest question here .. by "save the recruiting class" do you mean:1. Keep the existing commitments we already have?or 2. Have time to recruit other players to fill available scholarships?Just wondering.Go Zips!!Both I guess. Keep the ones that the new staff likes, but just as importantly have time to secure new ones.
  8. No I don't. Thank you for your opinion. I will take it into consideration the same way I take all the other opinions on this board. This board loves my opinions....they may not like them, but everyone responds to them one way or another. The board would be borring without the Great GP1.I'm off to the Zac Brown Band concert.Brookhart should be canned before the Browns kick off tomorrow. It is the perfect time to do it with a bye week. It gives us 2 weeks to sort out the coaching position and it still gives us time to save the recruiting class.
  9. I've always been curious about this. Did Frye stay an extra year because he wanted to, or did he consult with professionals about his draft prospects and realize there was a chance of not getting drafted or becoming a Nate Davis (before Davis of course)? Remember, if the Browns were the only team stupid enough to draft him in the third round after his senior year, who else would have drafted him? Who would have drafted him after his junior year?I actually think Frye made an informed decision to stay his senior year because he realized from talking with others he may not be ready for Sunday afternoons. Maybe Fitzgerald, et al talked with him, but I think the rational decision was to stay at UofA because he was not ready.I was graduated and out of the program at the time of all of this, but there were quite a few guys still on the team who I had played with and was close with. The story I got was that Frye was livid with the firing of Owens, so much so that he refused to even look at Mike Thomas, much less speak to him. At the team meeting the day following the victory over Ohio and the subsequent Owens firing, with Mike Thomas in the room, Frye proceeded to stand up, with tears in his eyes, and tell the team they didn't have to stand by and take this, and that he wasn't going to have his senior season ruined by someone "not a part of this team who was only looking out for himself." Needless to say it was a tense meeting. Other seniors to be such as Chase Blackburn stood up and said they would refuse to play for anyone else. At that point pretty much everyone assumed that Frye was going pro, and from what I understood he was in fact projected higher following that season (3600 passing yards) than after his senior season (2400 passing yards). Frye pretty much refused to talk to anyone in the athletic department outside of the assistant coaches who remained employed and in office until a new head coach was hired, at which time they would recieve token interviews as is the norm and be subsequently fired to make room for a new staff. When JD was hired, he didn't contact Frye immediately, as I guess Charlie expected him too, and there were rumors that JD and some of his new hires were already actively recruiting a JUCO QB out of California, who JD had been looking at at Pitt, to come in and start. Frye felt extremely dissed obviously, and at that point he made it known to most of his buddies on the team that he was leaving. JD did in fact ask to speak with Frye shortly afterwards however, and if any of you have ever had the chance to sit down with JD one on one, you know the guy, regardless of your opinion of his coaching abilities, is great with words, bullshitter or not. Whatever was said in that meeting was obviously enough for Charlie, as there was a team meeting the next day, which he appeared at (as I understand it he was not present at JD's first official "team meeting"), and he announced to the team that he was returning and that they were going to win a MAC Championship with JD at the helm. Frye however, as many of you know, has always been more loyal to Owens, as whenever he's talked about his college experience he's always cited Owens for his success as opposed to Brookhart. He also, regrettably in my opinion, currently does a lot more for ASHLAND football (golf outings, fundraisers, works with the team in the offseason) than he does for the Zips (nothing that I'm aware of?) But there you go, at least direct from the guys I know that were there at the time, you now know the rest of the story.Damn...that was informative. I used to have my in from 1996 until about 2001, but I was gone when this stuff happened.
  10. I'm sorry, but there is just no way that JD is coming out of this without taking at least some of the blame. It's his ship. He's the captain. When the ship starts taking on water people are inevitably going to start looking at the captain. There is just no way that he's coming out of this unscathed. Especially with a new AD and the massive investment that the University just put into the program.on point..the new sheriff in town...er AD did NOT come here to put up with this and won't...he has no allegiance to the staff nor should he...hell he is not going to shoot himself in the foot by taking on somebody else's mess...unless brookhart et al perform a heretofore unseen miracle we will likely get to start all over again next year...It wouldn't be all that big of a surprise if we were starting all over again in the next few weeks. No way do they get rid of JD before the end of the season, unless it is to promote a guy like Walt Harris. Firing a coach during the season typically kills a recruiting class and I dont think that the university wants to set themselves even further behind.
  11. Thank you for the heads up on that. I will definitely check the game out.
  12. I was in Lot 9 and the cops were going around ticketing adults that were just sitting in lawn chairs drinking a beer in red dixie cups. You think 18k is bad....wait until they continue to chase fans away like they did yesterday. It is hard enough to get people to go now....just wait until the cops continue to chase them around and ticket them for doing nothing wrong.
  13. Per the Indiana Rivals board, IU sent back their ticket allotment to Akron -- after selling only 450 tickets! Hopefully they are buying them locally, because that might be fewer visiting fans than Morgan State had! How pathetic is the fan following of this opponent that says it's "of the quality of the Big Conference That Can't Count"? You know, the Big 10 could fix their logo if they just kicked Indiana or Northwestern out. Then the MAC would have someone to fill our spot when we leave.GREAT post! B) B) Go Zips!I just went on ticketmast and typed in a request for 10 tickets. It spit out 10 tickets right beside one another in section 210. That is not a good sign for tomorrow. I will be thoroughly depressed to see a rubber bowl like 15k crowd.
  14. How dare you use my new signature against me! Seriously...which poster on here created this account and is doing this? I love it. It is cracking me up with every post. It has to be a zipsnation member because no Indiana fan could seriously be this delusional.
  15. It does have to do with talent, but not in the areas where people look. The skill players at tOSU are for the most part just as fast and big as the players in the three major conferences. Where they have no athletic talent is on the offensive and defensive lines and LB positions. USC beat OSU because they created a match-up on 3rd & 17 late in the game where a far superior athlete was covered by a slow "suburban" LB from tOSU. Game over. With the addition of Pryor, they will see increasingly less skill players. Any kid with pro aspirations would not attend tOSU with him there. He can't throw the ball and the skill player would not be able to showcase his talents. Tressel is "all in" with Pryor. I'm not certain what he was trying to accomplish with him.tOSU is the best team in an increasingly bad conference. The do have to go to PSU and UofM is getting better. The Big Ten needs UofM to be good in orded for the country to take the league seriously.I've been reading the Columbus Dispatch a little this week. The coachers down there want Tressel fired for not winning big games. The truth is, he was not brought to tOSU to win big games. He was brought there to do two things: First, beat Michigan. He does that. Second, run a clean program. With a few exceptions, he runs a clean program. They did not hire him to win national championships. If they fire him, and they won't, they deserve their next John Cooper. You do realize that USC started 2 slow "suburban" linebackers on their ridiculously great defense from last year? Does Clay Matthews Jr and Brian Cushing ring a bell? They didnt exactly light up the combine with their 40 numbers. The difference is that Pete Carrol always had them in the proper position to make plays. He doesnt get middle linebackers matched up one on one with the best athlete on the field. When top 25 teams play (especially top 10), it doesnt usually come down to talent, it comes down to which coach makes the adjustments and puts their players in the best position to win. I could go on for days about how Urban Meyer, Pete Carrol and Les Miles made adjustments that Tressel never saw and couldnt deal with. He has his gameplan and that it is...he wont change from it. In the end it will be his demise.Unfortunately, we have seen the outschemed problem at Akron since I have watched in the mid 90's. I think we have upgraded our coaching staff to the point where, hopefully it is a thing of the past. We will see how this year unfolds.
  16. You guys cant even talk about where you will watch a game without crying and moaning about OSU. You guys are like a bunch of pathetic children. I really do feel for you. You remind me of the democrats trying to push this healthcare bill. F what the people want. We know what is better for you. It is my way or the highway!! Just freaking show up and cheer for the damn Zips. Who gives a toss if they have a tv or 2 with the OSU game on and there are some OSU fans there. This is a free country last time I checked and a business has to cater to their crowd. Whats next....are you going to have bouncers outside that ask which game you are watching before you are allowed in?You can't bully people into liking what you like. Lets just hope Akron does well tomorrow and the rest of the season. That will be the only thing that accomplishes what we all want and that is a larger, more loyal fanbase, lots of wins and bowl games!
  17. So zip37 says "AMEN" to that, huh? Pretty amazing. I though he respected Dennison? To me it reads like a hard bitch slap to the Zips fans who would be interested in what Dennison had to say. If zip37 doesn't give a rat's ass about what Dennison has to say, then I may have to rethink my position too. News f.l.a.s.h. -- There is no one purchasing a book detailing the History of Akron Football that doesn't know Jason Taylor. It is no wonder some people on this board dislike Ohio State fans. How can you not, when they enter and Akron Zips Message Board to throw tantrums towards Akron Zips fans? Someone wrote a book on the history of Akron Zips football, but OSU fan's ego says the target audience for that book doesn't "give a rat's ass what Jim Dennison has to say?" Makes perfect sense. People that buy a book written about University of Akron Football History MUST want to read what Jim Tressel thinks. Not Jim Dennison. Yep.Call Zips fans Morons...crybabies...whatever. You've apparently got some enthusiastic support in high places on Zips Nation when you do so. Knock yourself out.I have 15...20...who knows how many good friends who are also Ohio State fans. Many of them participate on the board. They all respect that this is a Zips fan site. I wish all OSU fans did likewise. I remain disappointed that a book on Akron football History needed to resort to a foreword from an Ohio State coach to sell books. But it isn't my book. If it was, Dennison, Faust or Taylor would probably have been given a pencil and paper for their thoughts. And as I said earlier, I'll probably still buy a copy.I hope the author enjoys the free press they received today. You are one of the biggest hardheads on this board and you completely missed the whole point of what I wrote. I know you like to get all high and mighty and up on your "UA is the greatest thing since sliced bread" soapbox, so I am sorry I actually use some reasoning to debate what people on here say. If you dont like it, tough.I came to UA in 1996 and I have no idea who in the hell Jim Dennison is. My point was...unless you are an OLD TIME Zips fan you dont know the guy. He doesnt speak to me because he wasnt a known comodity. As for Jason Taylor, the majority of friends that I have had no idea that he went to UA. He wasnt a big time college player, so he slid under the radar. If, as you say, the point of this book is to sell it to Zips fans then I think that is short sighted. The point is to INCREASE awareness and interest in the program, not just sell to old timers that know Jim Dennison and Jason Taylor. As for your other rhetoric that you spewed.....1. Am I an OSU fan? Yup, I have been since I started watching football at age 5. It is all I knew growing up, so sue me.2. Am I a Buckeye honk? Nope. I find a lot of shortcomings in that program and I voice those to OSU people when we have discussions.3. I didnt go to OSU. I could have, but I wanted to go to Akron because it was was the school that fit me. I have no loyalty issues. I am a zip and I have been since 1996. I get frustrated a hell with this program, but I get even more frustrated with people like you that belittle and attack every post I make because you are incappable of seeing past the fact that I also root for OSU. OH NO!!! When it all comes down to it, I root for my school over OSU.You know....this is so stupid. I have no reason to defend myself to anyone, especially the pricks on this board like you and Zips Win, etc.... If you want to kick me off, fine. I really couldnt care less about having discussions with people like you that are jealous hearted of successful schools, defensive and just plain intellectually dishonest. I will get off my soapbox now. Good day
  18. you are both welcome to stop by.
  19. Zips Win......the freaking guy got his coaching start and his masters from UA and you guys turn it into an Anti OSU tirade. The guy is a freaking former ZIP. I love how you MORONS trash your own because of jealousy. The guy speaks highly of the school and the program any time he gets a chance. I dont need to stand here and defend OSU or their coach. Tressel has won more national titles than we have had winning seasons. I just like calling out the crybabies. Trust me...I would have said the same thing if you guys would have pouted about another school. As for going away.....I dont think so. I spend my $1,500 a year on 6 priority reserved seats. If you dont think so and you think I am an OSU honk, just come to section 210, row 4 and ask to talk to me. I'll be the guy not wearing his OSU gear. Do you seriously think I would shell out that sort of dough if I didn't care about this program? Grow up and stop acting like a child.Yeah, I am sure all the Ohio football fans that would potentially buy this book give a rats ass what Jim Dennison has to say. 95% of them have never heard of the guy. I know it breaks your heart, but everyone knows Jim Tressel. To the person that mentioned Jason Taylor.......I hear you on that one. He would have been a great one. The problem is, not everyone knows him unless they follow the NFL. I am sure their target market was Ohio and far more people know Jim Tressel.
  20. Good lord I have never seen so many jealous, crybaby OSU haters. Seriously, the guy was the quarterbacks, receivers and running backs coach here for 3 years. He also got his masters degree at Akron. Why would you even bring an anti-OSU comment into this? Also, why would you be disappointed that he wrote the forward? In the end, these people are trying to see books. What sells more books and is better for the program, Jim Tressel doing this or Lee Owens? I just dont get you people. I can't imagine a Miami (Oh) fanbase being upset because Woody Hayes, Jim Tressel or Bo Schembechler gave the forward in their book. I mean...they all 3 did coach there.
  21. Went to the Browns scrimmage today at the stadium. Anderson played corner about 90% of the defensive plays and he looked great. They didnt complete a pass on him all day and he was really locking up his guy.
  22. I can't be too thrilled about a kid with those 2 offers. Unless we are having an academic challenge team we need to recruit higher level athletes.I guess we should drop the student in student athlete. We've had athletes that were smart and able to contribute within the team concept. I remember a great play by one such football player that saved a big win for the Zips at BG at the goal line. I'm not suggesting this was his only contribution but may have been his biggest. Awesome play! He wasn't the most gifted athlete but stepped up and contributed. Anyone know who this was???? Smart and athletic aren't mutually exclusive. No, we shouldn't drop the student from Student athlete, but we should also be D-3 if these are the types of guys we are excited at signing. Can you imagine a BCS conference school being excited over this? I want to play in bowl games ever year, not win the GPA cup. If that happens along with it great.
  23. I can't be too thrilled about a kid with those 2 offers. Unless we are having an academic challenge team we need to recruit higher level athletes.
  24. Well, I figured since I posted something there would be a negative comment below. I see I am correct.I never said the entire school was anti-american. I said Can't fans at the basketball game booed. THOSE fans showed anti-americanism. They didn't all boo, but a LARGE portion of their fan base did. I am sure I wasnt the only person there that night. Can you think of any other incident where a schools fans booed service kids? I sure as hell can't.
  25. Yes! Thank you for your service to our country!Yes! Unlike Can't people we wont throw bags of our urine or rocks at you. We actually appreciate a true American!I will never in my lifetime forget the Can't fans booing the kids being sworn into the service at the Can't-Akron basketball game at the Q two or 3 years ago. I was appalled at such anti-americanism.
