  1. What about Charlie Frye? When he was here, everyone spoke about how he was such a great football mind. Would love to see him come here and coach in some offensive capacity. I'm pretty sure he is out of the NFL now.
  2. Read the twitter posts Dave. Looks like a heroin overdose. Very sad. Prayers going out to the Jacquemain family.
  3. I saw this story about Katz the other day. He put up some big numbers against PAC12 competition. He would be a huge upgrade over what we have. Even though he would only be here for one year, I would take it. He could also be a mentor to his heir apparent. It would take the hiring of Tressel to get him to even consider coming here. If anyone else becomes our coach, I doubt they could lure him to Akron. This team needs so much. We would need to find a few good receivers to throw the ball to as well. Also, a new offensive line that could pass block at least half of the time. About the only good thing that we have on offense is Chisholm. On defense - Just Wagner. The cupboard is almost empty.
  4. Under. I believe it will be a done deal in two weeks or less.
  5. I'm absolutely scared $H!+less about TW making another coaching decision. Me too. The man has already proven that he is clueless in this regard.
  6. This is a candidate that I suggested last week (just an example). He's not a a midwest guy, but he is ready. He may not be the #1 choice, but we need to look at ALL possible candidates NATIONWIDE, not just those that are in a 500 mile radius. This guy was a Browns assistant a few years ago. He once lived in NE Ohio. USC is on probation. UCLA is playing for the PAC 12 South title tonight and USC is taking them to the woodshed tonight. The last time I checked, the Trojans were winning 43-0. The point here is that we need to look at ALL possible candidates country wide, not just Big Ten HC's or assistants. I agree that Luke Fickle is at the top of the heep, and should definitely be considered, but there are MANY very good choices nationwide. There are ALLOT of HC's and Coordinators at the D1 level who are ready to make the next step. The point here, is that the U of A and Wistrcell need to be very thorough in their vetting process in picking the next head coach. Akron can not afford to make another mistake because it can set this program back another 5 - 10 years (See University of New Mexico -I used to live in Albuquerque- That program is awful because they have made numerous bad choices). Also, don't just assume that a near west or far west guy won"t come here. That is ABSOLUTELY short sided thinking. They will come here! http://www.usctrojans.com/sports/m-footbl/..._kennedy00.html
  7. 68-19 final. Could have been much worse. WMU was playing backups most of the second half. Twice they went for it on 4th down inside the red zone instead of taking the FG. Cubit was showing some mercy. Ianello better be gone by tomorrow morning.
  8. Nicely picked off. Broncos poised to score again. Just throw in the towel, get on the bus, and go home.
  9. ++++ Infinity That's funny! Reminds me of another quote from years past - "Why's everybody talkin bout Joe Frazier" In all seriousness though, any of the guys in this poll, and especially Jim Tressel, would be a HUGE upgrade over what we have now.
  10. If this source is accurate, then this is very good news. I wish ICoach and his family well, but it is time to make a change. Hopefully his replacement is a proven HC or Coordinator and not a recruiting director or inexperienced position coach. I pray that the school does a thorough vetting process and spends the $$ necessary to hire the right guy. The Alumni, Students, Faculty, team, and community deserve much better than this. Thanks for for sharing Captain!
  11. Formula is hire an experienced HC that has a history of consistent winning and running a good program. There are many D1-AA coaches out there that fit the bill. I'm not opposed to that either, but proven coordinators for former HC's rom BCS schools should also be considered. I think you even said so yourself in a post the other day. Just don't hire anymore stinking recruiting coordinators or position coaches with little or no experience. In almost 25 years since joining 1A, this school still hasn't figured out how to hire a football coach.
  12. That means we need to hire a new AD as well. I don't have a problem with that, just make sure the new AD knows how to evaluate coaching talent.
  13. Unlike Ianello, this guy has a great coaching resume. The point I was trying to make is that he is a proven coach unlike the current guy who's background is in recruiting for Wisconsin and Notre Dame. I could recruit at those schools. There are allot of Kennedy Polamalu's out there that are ready to be coaches. The next guy has to have extensive coaching experience. Bill Cowher is a high energy guy. Does that make him a bad coach? No. Also, don't just assume a west coach guy won't come here. All candidates with proven resumes should be interviewed. The guy was a former Browns assistant so that means he at least lived part time in NE Ohio at one time. School administrators need to be completely open minded when doing a coaching search. Short sided thinking (Only interviewing guys with certain personalities, certain ties, or ones who live within a certain radius) does not benefit the future of the program.
  14. You won't here much about this guy in the mid west, but he is a rising star in the college ranks. He currently is serving as USC's offensive coordinator. I saw him on the sidelines last night in their game against Oregon. The guy coaches with allot of fire and energy. He also has NFL coaching experience including a stint with the Browns. I think he is ready for a head coaching job somewhere. http://www.usctrojans.com/sports/m-footbl/..._kennedy00.html
  15. I agree. They need to find someone similar to Solich at Ohio. A proven winner who knows how to turn things around. However, I don't hold out much hope for a guy like that because the University is cheap and won't dole out the cash necessary to bring in a proven winner. Ohio ante'd up and now they are enjoying the fruits of that decision.
  16. I'm in. I didn't think losing to Buffalo by that score was even possible. Its obvious that the team has completely given up on him at this point.
  17. I think I saw somewhere that those dates are "either or". As soon as one of those dates becomes firm, they will drop the other one.
  18. @SEETEEZIP - Where did you move to? I also live on the west coast.
  19. I gave up on him a long time ago. Worst program in FBS. I believe he has a 3 yr contract. I doubt the University will fire him because they do not want to pay two salaries at once. That means we'll have to endure one more year of this garbage before we can hopefully get a coach who has at least somewhat of an idea of what it takes to build a winning program. I agree with getting rid of Wistricill as well. Ianello was the one key hire by Tom, and he is an utter failure. I do not want to see Wistricill as part of the process to hire Ianello's replacement next year for fear that we will just get a repeat of Coach I. As an alumni, I am embarrassed by this. I feel sorry for all of the kids on scholarship. I'll bet many of them now wished that they had went elsewhere. Its sad that this program cannot even compete in the crappy MAC conference. Pathetic!
  20. The folks out here in LA are losing their patience with Rick Neuheisel. I saw a report this morning that his teams have not defeated a conference foe with a winning record in over three years. On top of that, USC has dominated the Bruins for quite sometime now. I would not be surprised to see him replaced by years end. This was just another nail in his coffin. He has something in common with Ianello. They both need to go.
  21. I see this quote a lot and I respectfully disagree. I'm sure that in many ways, Coach I is a very good professional at what he does. For instance, I'm pretty sure he knows how to coach the offense he wants to run. I'm philosophically against what he is trying to do with the offense but that doesn't make him in over his head. When people say, "in over his head", it is the type of general statement that can cover a lot of area. It's sort of like when fans say, "the QB doesn't see the field"...how the Hell do they know what the QB sees unless they are sharing his eyes... This guy is very green as most MAC coaches are. Your right, I can't see into his head. I don't know what he is thinking, but the results indicate that the program is going in reverse. So far in his tenure, Akron football has gone from bottom 25% to arguably the worst in the nation. This is an embarrassment. "Maybe over his head" was the wrong choice of words, but there is no arguing that so far Ianello has been a miserable failure. I was just trying to make a point that the guy is failing without saying something hateful.
  22. It will cost at least 1.5 million to do what you suggest. If we can round up 200 like minded fans, would you join in and kick in $7,500.00 to make it happen?? Obviously, if we can't get 200 like minded fans...your portion may increase. If we can find 2000....then it will only cost you $750.00. I am guessing it will closer to the $7,500.00 You in???? No, obviously I am not in. This is not about me or any of the fans. of course making a coaching change is a risk and will cost $$. But is a risk that must be taken. There can be a reward to this risk. That reward is in higher gate receipts, if they can bring in the right guy. Otherwise, we are stuck with garbage until his contact runs out.
  23. I am usually not this critical, and very patient when it comes to giving new coaches a chance, but Ianello is in over his head. The sooner the university cuts their losses and moves on, the better.
  24. I got lambasted on this board earlier in the week for predicting EMU to win by a score similar to this one. Man, I sure would have loved to have been wrong on that prediction. How many years left on coach I's contract? Can the school afford to fire him with years left on the deal? That was the second easiest game on the schedule. Barring an upset, I don't see how they win again this year. Someone suggested that we could beat Buffalo. That's a possibility, but they are certainly better than we are right now.
  25. Hey Dorfman, I thought it was fat and stupid? LOL! I think the line from Animal house was fat, dumb, and stupid. Can't Dorfman - Hey, are you guys playing cards? That movie was a classic! So close................. Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son. Yes! How could I forget that.
