Lingard with the kangaroo hop TD celebration haha! Can we petition the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility for him? "Dear NCAA, We would formally like to petition for one more year of eligibility for Lorenzo Lingard. We wasted his first and potentially only year at Akron, and would like one more chance to make it right. Sincerely, JoeMo"

FEED. LL. DAMNIT. TOUCHDOWN!
-
Why do we kick any FGs longer than 20 yds? Just go for it.
-
LL has phenomenal hands. Why we don't run wheel routes with him more is beyond me.

Loeffler is such a bad coach. To call a timeout on 3rd & 10, and run that play... sheesh. No wonder he lost to Arth multiple times.

Freeman really has been busy in the weight room this off-season. Unfortunately, it looks like he's in the same club I'm in where the legs are difficult to grow. 😂 Really hoping Amani takes that next step in becoming a force down low. He has shown some strong flashes.

Stetson Bennett has entered the chat... Just be happy I knew which Dakota Mount Rushmore is in. At the very least that's more intelligence displayed than anything you'll find on the Kent board. 😂

New lineup can be said for every team. We have 5 seniors, 3 of which were staples last year, and the other 2 were staples the previous season when we nearly beat UCLA in the Dance. Our "new lineup" is much better off than most. It comes down to "do we put the ball in the basket more than the opponent." New lineup doesn't have as much to do with that as individual skill & effort. This is a Groce-coached team. We will almost always be in the game thanks to defense & effort. Bring on the Jackrabbits and as this game will be played in the shadows of Mount Rushmore, I'd like to quote our Founding Fathers who once said, "Go Zips!"

You can tell Freeman has pro aspirations. Senior night this year needs to be an over-capacity crowd.

Way-Too-Early MAC Predictions: 2023-2024
Let'sGoZips94 replied to LoyalZIP's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Doh! You're right. File schools in Utah not named Utah, Utah State, or BYU under the Directional Michigan category. Confusing and who really cares. 😂 In fact, BUGS' new coach made me care about Southern Utah for a moment, that's how good of a coach he is. -

His Southern Utah squad beat PCCC in a postseason tournament 2 seasons ago. They were towards the top of the leaderboard for highest scoring teams in the country. I fully expect BUGS to be uber competitive immediately, and maybe be a top MAC program as long as he's there. -

1. Akron 2. Ohio (Ike Cornish could be a force this year) 3. BUGS (the Southern Utah coach is legit) 4. Toledo 5. PCCC 6. Balls 7. NIU 8. Buffalo 9-12. Who Gives A 💩 -
Everything after the 3rd TD in the Temple game.

Good catch. I had to hop on the PC to be able to pause it more accurately. We're so damn tall and athletic anymore, it's hard to tell the difference between players without jersey numbers. Very good sign. -

Is that him laying down? Otherwise, not sure where you see him. -

https://niuhuskies.com/news/2023/10/16/general-new-niu-convocation-center-court-unveiled.aspx NIU will no longer play in Batman's Cave. They redid their floor and it's normal now. -
Zips win this one. I'm not sure if it's going to be 2-0, or 41-10, but we are Loeffler's kryptonite.

Wrong. Just 1000% wrong. Akron's defense is one of the best in the MAC. Why? Transfer Portal. Our secondary is entirely P5 and leaps & bounds better than previous years, especially last year. Our LB corps has 2 anchors, one of which came from JUCO. We're talking about a sport where physical contact is the name of the game. Most 18/19 year old kids are physically under-developed compared to 20-22 year olds. Most P5 programs have a better strength & conditioning program (largely due to funding) than Akron. So players are coming in from the TP more developed physically. Especially on defense, the Transfer Portal will always be a huge key to success. Offensively, we have some absolute studs. George (PSU), Adams (LSU), Lingard (Florida), Anderson (Arizona/Northwestern), Banks (WVU), Newell (Arizona State), etc. These guys are being overshadowed by pee poor QB play & play calling. That doesn't mean the transfer portal hasn't been successful. Northeast Ohio has talent. The top talent goes P5. When you're an Akron, you can't fence yourself into a particular area. Northeast Ohio's secondary talent might not be as great as Western PA, Eastern Tennessee, Southern South Dakota. Go get the best talent available regardless of area. The key for sustained success is winning. I don't give a damn where the kids come from, just f'ing win.

This. Our QB struggles aren't due to a lack of NIL. Our QB struggles are due to coaching, whether it be in the recruiting department, development, or system/play calling. Next year there needs to be a competent QB under center with complimentary, competent play calling that moves this offense. As you said, Captain, big off-season for Joe in the QB department.
-
There he... Nope. No Ali Ali. 🤔 Maybe just the guys who haven't bailed on the program before?
-
I figured there was something they saw in practice that gave them confidence with Bullock in the game. I attributed the first game struggles more to play calling. While I still attribute a lot of our offensive struggles to playing, the CMU game proved that Bullock doesn't have it between the ears, let alone the skill. The coaching staff's ability to call plays AND evaluate/develop talent is 100% in question. Zips fans are left wondering how an offense under the coaching hand of an "offensive genius" is so inept. Even when Undercuffler came in and led them down the field for a TD, it was the Stefanski effect where there was probably a scripted play call sheet that caught the defense off guard, and once the defense adjusted, it was back to the garbage offense.
-
I was clambering for Bullock because Undercuffler was Underwhelming every time I saw him and I figured it'd be worth it to see what we'll have on the roster going forward. What were the coaches seeing that would even think Bullock was on the same planet as Undercuffler?

What are the transfer rules for a player transferring from FBS to a lower division?
