When Toledo beat CMU, I thought, "Hmmmm... Could this be a blessing in disguise?" Akron will get up for this game. The target is on Toledo's back, not ours. Had CMU won, there's a chance we'd overlook them, not show up (like we haven't shown up against any directional Michigan school this year), and get upset by the Chips. LET'S GO ZIPS! Beat Detroit Southwest!

Clarke deserves credit on Buffalo's prior possession, too. They chucked up a crap shot and Garvin was the only Zips player with a chance at the rebound - he made sure he got it. Otherwise, it would've been an offensive rebound and we're probably talking about a different outcome.

Read this again and the bold part stood out. It did feel like the old days. Seemed to be a pretty solid Zips contingent in attendance despite a mid afternoon start. The only potential difference: have we ever played a team of Buffalo's caliber in the quarterfinals? Maybe Toledo in '09 (Humpty Hitchens/Brett McKnight game)? We just knocked out the undisputed top MAC team for the past decade.

Thank you for sharing this. Outstanding coaching by Groce & Co. to have a final play with TWO possible options with the same base concept. Props to Tribble for not only having confidence in himself, but also executing AND hitting the free throws (he was 4-4 down the stretch, right?). Dawson is this year's Most Improved - by a mile. What a year for the Dawson family. I watched the replay last night, and his shooting confidence is high along with his decision making. He looks to constantly drive and create plays, unlike previous years where he was simply a passing bridge to get the ball in someone else's hands. Freeman not being 1st Team All MAC is really the biggest screw job I can remember.

Is this the equivalent to Tuesday night MACtion in the fall?
-
Tied for the largest margin of victory.
-
Bad year for the MAC to go with a 5pm tip off for the first semis game.
-
Suggestion: O-Who and Ball State are both eliminated from this tourney, and KSUcks/Toledo/Akron play a 3 team round robin for the MAC Title. Neither of these teams deserve to move on.

His 15 games under .500 after 9 years would suggest he doesn't.

Bumbalough needs to hit the gym.
-
Balls should be up by 50.
-
No doubt, but I know we can beat any of the remaining teams now. Nobody scares me.

They conveniently have their worst games against crap competition. And if they have an off game against good competition, their opponents has twice as poor a performance.

Not to mention he embodies the true definition of STUDENT-athlete.

Cannot tell you how happy I was to peak at my phone today at work and see 32-32 at the half, and 70-68 Zips at the end. Buffalo is probably the worst matchup for us on paper in the MAC. They have a big that negates Freeman/Aziz, a killer guard, and a nasty stretch 4 that can shoot the lights out. Excited to watch the replay tonight. LET'S GO ZIPS!

The MAC is an absolute joke. The IQ behind these selections reflects the IQ required to be a bottom-feeding conference.

Class of '23 Offers & Verbal Commits

Our entire staff is P5 and our transfers this year were P5 heavy. Kids talk. I think we'll be able to beat out the lower echelon SEC/Big Ten schools. -

I'll take the over at a 2.5 line. So 2 or less you win, 3 or more I win. -
2021-2022 Zips Women's Basketball

The Dawson family has been good to Zips basketball. Congrats Jordyn! -
Excellent questions. I would imagine the bold is very possible.

What a load of crap that quote is. Dambrot is not adverse to questionable grades/ethics. His best team at Akron included Tree, Harney, and Abreu. I can appreciate wanting to run a cleaner program that represents the name on the front of the jersey well, but this is a cop out quote. He even said this is the best team he's had yet, so I'm not sure where the "a lot of coaches will BS you" call out is justified. Duquesne's fan forum is seeing what we saw for years. Dog house coaching style, not a very creative offense, one-dimensional defense, lack of adjustments, etc. They're averaging 64.8 ppg - I don't remember averaging much more than that when he was at Akron. The game has passed Dambrot by and he's struggling to gain any traction to keep up. I can't imagine his system is very fun to play in, and with the Transfer Portal open, guys are no longer "trapped". All of his best players have left. That's not a grades/ethics issue; that's a coaching/system issue. He cashed in on his success at Akron and is making $1M a year to be exposed as a slightly-above-average basketball coach that rode the coattails of LeBron for as long as he could. I'm very thankful for the level at which he raised Akron's program to, but he's not a very good basketball coach; just a slightly above average one.

Moorhead’s Akron Coaching Staff 2022
Let'sGoZips94 replied to akrzips2012's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'm not sure Oregon State's opinion should hold much weight in the college football world. Can't remember the last time they were relevant. The article even says Tibesar came into one of the worst defensive rosters in the FBS, and it did improve during his first couple of years. I'd imagine COVID complicated and killed momentum for 2020 & 2021. Moorhead hung 38 on Tibesar's replacement, FWIW. -
What a screwy format by the Horizon League. Quarterfinals on Thursday at higher seed's arena, then semifinals/finals 4-5 days later in Indy. Hopefully Wright State wins the league. Makes our win against them look even better.
