Assuming LCJ's play doesn't nosedive the rest of the season, did he secure the MAC POY last night?

2021 Recruit - Luke Brown (PG)

Thank you for all the updates! -
It wasn't as troubling when watching. Our guards are more athletic and they left a lot of open holes to drive through.

Fantastic effort. Great win. 1-0 on Tuesday!

Derail their season? Maybe not. But the absence of a 31 min/game participant shooting the 3 ball at a 42%+ clip will most definitely be felt. Interestingly enough, 6 of their MAC wins are by 3 pts or less, with their biggest MAC win point differential being 9. Buckle up. This could be a tight one.

I'm sorry, what?! What is it with BG players and leaving the program in recent years? Huge blow to their team, but I'm not complaining.

Finally watched the replay to see the final 15 seconds (the stat sheet tells the story for the other 39 minutes and 45 seconds). What a clutch 3 by X and man did Banks give up his body on that play. EMU snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as we did the opposite. What a win.

I don't care where we're at, as long as we're top 4 (preferably #1 though).

MAC Men’s Basketball - Catch-all Thread

Akron is off and the MAC eats itself alive. Beautiful. -
AWFUL call on Banks.
-
Thank goodness for LCJ. Right when we needed an aggressive drive to the basket, the shortest guy on the court delivers.
-
HUGE 3's by Banks. It's been a few games since he has stepped up and hit some open 3's, especially in clutch moments. He built Miami's campus with all the bricks against Buffalo.

Why is Riak not collapsing on the shooter for help defense?
-
Wait timeout. Why didn't the shot clock reset on the jump ball? Am I smoking the Kent State-grown hippy grass or...?

"Xavier" Williams with the slam!

I think this is spot on. Any game against KSUcks is a must-win in my book due to the rivalry, but if this game was against anybody else, I would echo the must-win urgency. I'd also like to see us get back to what made us so successful prior to Buffalo/O-Who - high level defense, effort, fundamentals. I think part of the lack of bench contributions stems from us tightening up under the pressure and strictly relying on our go-to players, instead of working the ball around with on & off the ball movement opening things up for the perceived "role" players. Agreed on the vibe. It definitely has the most character out of the bars at Kent. Barfly is a cool retro bar that turns into a dance club at night and gets pretty sloppy, Water Street Tavern doesn't really have an identity to me, and Ray's Place doesn't have much character or attraction other than the pool tables. Akron's biggest campus flaw is not embracing the college bar scene, which would also help change the notion that it's a commuter school only.

Beer tastes the same at Kent (Ray's Place, Barfly, Water Street Tavern, etc.) as it does anywhere else I've been. The difference is when I use the restroom there, I feel like I'm getting into the Kent School Spirit with the pee yellow (that they call "gold"). I always feel like I have to take a shower after being in Kent - awful city as a whole. Their Planet Fitness is awful as well. In the spirit of this post, who has the image of the Akron guy peeing on the KSUcks logo? We need it. P.S. The Loft's "Hulk" is actually pretty good.

@Captain Kangaroo @GoZips88 Do either of you two have the picture? The "We Suck" sign is also Hall of Fame material.

Chris Singletary - Mr. .13. The annoying part of that video is knowing we still lost that game. We did win the MAC that year, though. First title for Dambrot and crew.

Really good stuff. Stokes up what truly is one of the better mid-major college rivalries (I'm not bias - you're bias) ahead of a key matchup. There have been some awesome games. That 2011 Title Game was one for the ages.

According to this, Akron will be participating in the Gulf Coast Showcast next season. This season's participants include a cluster of teams that resembles something the Houston Astros are very familiar with... Previous fields don't give me much confidence. I just hope the 2020-21 field is a bit more full. Otherwise I might be banging my head against a trash can, not to signal an off-speed pitch is coming, but rather this tournament sucks.

We played like @clarkwgriswold told the team we were skipping a game to get to Game 22. ? The positive takeaways... - For as bad as we were last night, and for getting out-rebounded by nearly 20, it says something that we only lost by 3 and had a chance to win. We really are back with the top of the pack in the MAC (I'm a poet and I didn't know it). - We shot 90%+ from the line last night, only missing two out of twenty-two. LCJ was 11-11. I love how we focus on the fundamentals of basketball. - LCJ is quickly becoming the best player I've ever seen in a Zips uniform. Overall, it was a bad game. This is the transition season where we start shedding some of the monkeys on our back that have bogged down the program the past couple of seasons. Our road woes are seemingly over, we have good team chemistry, and aside from arguably Liberty, we didn't lose any OOC games we weren't supposed to. Buffalo & Toledo are still 2 monkeys on our back we need to get rid of, but that will come soon enough - I'm confident in that. The little things win in Cleveland, and we're taking our licks now to be the best we can be come March. We're going to have off nights, and we're going to have matchup issues, but I like that we're figuring those out and how to overcome them now rather than in a few weeks or in March. I didn't think Riak was that bad last night. He had a missed alley-oop dunk, and wasn't as strong on the boards as you'd like to see, but I thought our lack of focus on defense as a team put him in some bad positions to help on defense. I think we might have been a bit surprised by Buffalo's athleticism, too. Toledo shot lights out on us; Buffalo out-athleted us, which is the first time that has happened since Louisville/WVU. I trust this staff and this team to learn, adapt, and overcome some of these recent struggles. Participation Trophies are garbage, and that's not what I'm advocating for in this post. But our two conference losses are... - By 10 to a team that put up 99 points on 55%+ shooting from both the field and from 3 - By 3 to the previous King of the Conference when we played our worst game of the season I'm still very optimistic, and I'm excited for Friday. Go Zips, eh?
