  1. I like this. Alright, I've got my story and I'm sticking to it. The turf at the Info cannot handle the explosion that is our offense. Until that is replaced, they'll need to strictly utilize the Fieldhouse. The Fieldhouse does not change the game at all, as our games will not feature punts or FGs due to the success of the offense. The noise level and echo within the Fieldhouse will semi-closely imitate the sound of 30k at the Info during the season. Gonna sleep very well at night telling myself this before closing my eyes.
  2. Groce's hiring brought one of the best members to ZipsNation - @Illini Zip. Win win.
  3. Do we have any connections with him? As amazing as these transfers have been recently, I believe JoeMo was at Penn State during the recruiting process for both PSU transfers, and the Bama TE is coming home to Akron. Reno Ferri most likely knew the Cuse DT. The Mississippi State guys knew JoeMo prior. No idea on any other connections. Not sure we're at the point of pulling random guys left and right, especially of Emory's caliber.
  4. This was my first thought and what I'm going to continue to tell myself, no matter if true or not.
  5. I'd imagine the coaching staff was the first "Oh 💩" moment for the Vols. The roster now just adds to that. Army is undoubtedtly less talented than our current roster, as they are most rosters they face, but what they typically have over most schools is their coaching staff and discipline. That gap is largely narrowed vs our current staff, if not completely reversed. So now Tennessee is taking on a more talented, and potentially more disciplined team. That's a recipe for an upset or sphincter-tightening W.
  6. Especially Groce's assistants. Dustin & Rob coach their butts off during games. It's fun to watch.
  7. This. Total miss to not utilize the Info. The Fieldhouse, while a nice facility, is garbage for viewership.
  8. Before the Caden Clark & Daniel George signings, were the the 69th ranked Transfer Class in college football and 110th overall (between recruits and transfers) according to 247. I'd imagine both give us a healthy bump. The impact of the experience on this staff cannot be understated. Guthrie absolutely nailed this hire, and Moorhead filled his staff perfectly. There are not many G5 schools that can offer the facilities and playing time opportunities that Akron can, and no other G5 program can offer what this coaching staff can. Ohio sports betting won't be legal yet before this season, but if there's a bet for the most improved college football team, I'd take Akron.
  9. So our WRs are LSU, Pitt, and Penn State. Our TEs are Bama & WVU. RBs are Kansas State & Minnesota. OL has Penn State and Houston (not sure if I'm missing anyone). So on offense, the QB is the only non P5 position group, and the guy held his own against a P5 opponent with FCS talent around him. Sheesh.
  10. Athletics is the #1 marketing tool for any DI university outside of Ivy League schools. The rest of the school benefits from strong athletic programs.
  11. Groce, Moorhead, Embick, and Guthrie are an absolute unit together. Could easily see that group transcending the University to never before seen heights as a University.
  12. In fairness, a new coach is a legitimate reason to transfer. Decent chance the UCLA guy told him to find a new school.
  13. Their coach has been an absolute miss as a replacement.
  14. Thank you @LZIp ! It's fun that this matters again.
  15. Has Dambrot had any player for more than 2 years during his time at Duquesne? Echoing the same sentiment, their fan base was completely miffed by his lack of PT and continued to sour on KD because of it. Apparently this kid has loads of potential.
  16. Perfect fit. They like slow play.
  17. I thought he would've been a great hire for CSU. Great NEO name with LeBron connections for a Cleveland program. Any idea who the bigger program is?
  18. 0 NCAA Tournament wins with Zeke. John Groce had 3 with only 2 guys over 6'6" (none over 6'9"). How many Cinderellas are led by 7 footers? It's always a guard or two, and a front court with more desire than their opponents to get rebounds, with the athleticism to make a difference on offense as well.
  19. So basically publicly what the P5s have been giving recruits for at least a couple of decades.
  20. So did Groce's Sweet Sixteen team at OU. College basketball is all about guards and athleticism.
  21. Don't forget: we still have one scholarship left.
  22. 11.4 ppg last year on 37.5% shooting from the field and 35% from 3. 75% free throw shooter, with 3.7 Rebounds, 2.3 Assists, 1.8 Steals, and 1.8 Turnovers per game. 177 3PT attempts, 315 FG attempts, and 60 FT attempts. 13.9 ppg the previous season (exactly what Ali Ali averaged). What we lost in Ali Ali... 13.9 ppg on 46% shooting, 40.7% 3PT, 72.2% FT, 2.9 Rebounds, 2.3 Assists, .9 Steals, and 1.5 Turnovers per game. 118 3PT attempts, 359 FGA attempts, 133 FT attempts. Aside from the height (which may have been solved with Slammin' Sammy), Hankerson might actually be a better fit for this team. This also gives us another experienced Guard to help coach up 4 freshman.
  23. Jay Wright of Villanova is retiring, with Fordham's Kyle Neptune replacing him. Should be a few guys entering the Portal from both squads. Something to keep an eye on.
