Elite Eight results

Virginia scares me. They have an offense. Hopefully either Wake or UCLA can knock them off for us. Tomorrow is going to be a GREAT game. I am so pumped. -

Coach Porter To DC United?
Let'sGoZips94 replied to ksu sucks's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
That's the thing, the only thing attractive about this job is the money and its the MLS. I think Porter loves the NCAA. I think he also loves being at Akron. He has the Rowdies, a new stadium coming soon, the #1 team in the nation, and soccer is becoming huge at Akron. I hope nothing is to come of this but a mention. Let's keep Porter and become a dynasty. -
After the Pine Bluff game, Humpty ran over to tell the coach he was sorry when one of their players shoved him away. KD told Humpty to tell the coach he was sorry, so that's all he was doing. The AD ran into the locker room and that's when KD told him what happened. Humpty did almost get into another little altercation with one of Niagara's players. IMO, it was a great game. The only thing I didn't understand was why didn't Zeke get the ball more down low? He had at least a good 3 inches on whoever guarded him. He had pretty good position, too. Great game over all though for the entire team.

I found some references to schools that turned him down, but not to schools that he turned down. Do you have any specifics on that?In any case, if we are talking the amount of money it would take to get him to UA, that opens a whole new world of potential coaches who would consider UA for the big bucks. But why even consider a big bucks coach if UA doesn't have big bucks to offer? Is this discussion realistic or pie in the sky? That's the conundrum. Either you spend the big bucks and upgrade the candidate pool, or hope you find a diamond n the rough that doesn't mind being payed peanuts for a few years. You want to tell the MAC that you're ready to leapfrog them permanently, you spend the money like Temple and Ohio are doing. You want to stay in the MAC and risk everything that the stadium is supposed to bring just to save a few bucks in the near term, then put away the wallets.I'm all for upgrading our pool of candidates, but let's get this soccer team hooked up first. Spend what you can to get the best coach for that money, but get the soccer team and Porter a new stadium. However, if you have enough money for both, then by all means use it. Let's just keep the soccer team happy while getting this football team back on track at a reasonable price.

I like it. Only one thing is you could possibly move Miami up to 3 or 2. Coles knows how to coach and they are in every game (usually). The MAC is going to be tight this year IMO. It's going to be fun.

That loss was bad though considering we were up by 15 with around 7 minutes to go. Oh well, they seem to be getting in the groove again.

If I'm not mistaken, the Broncos used our practice facility when it was new.

+1

They are consistently good against the top teams, but consistently inconsistent (as my dad would put it) against the average ones.

Zeke with a quadruple double. Zips 69Peay 2 (one of Zeke's blocks hits their players on the head and goes in, I guess we'll give them that)

The cartwheeling goalkeeper
Let'sGoZips94 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
oh wow... hahaha all i can say is, it wouldn't be good for the goalie. -
I think this team has the talent. Is there room for an improvement in talent? No doubt. IMO, the 2 things that need the most improvement going into next season are:1) Toughness- Physically and mentally. If their QB is running, hit him (cleanly) with all you have. 2) Coaching/preparation- I think we need a new system in place with the new stadium and basically new team. I'm liking what I'm seeing overall though. Nicely looks like a true freshman, but he's very intelligent for a true freshman. Wagner is a very talented LB. I love college football, but the Zips really need to start doing something.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/preview2009/...&id=4641662Akron is ranked 9th for Mid-Majors this year in basketball. I thought, at least the Akron portion, was well researched.

STILL AND WILL ALWAYS... SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What's a flush? On behalf of JD, I would like to say thanks. The players always play for him no matter how bad the circumstances. Hey, the man whooped on Can't during his tenure here. I love the man's character. However, I don't think character alone can save his job, sadly.

WHAT A GAME! The first goal for the Zips was very pretty. Curving it over the line of Hartwick players and into the goal. Then Hartwick responded with what I consider 2 to-perfection-goals meaning you couldn't have executed better than they did. The first was a cross that was beautifully headed in. The second was a sweet shot where the player just jumped and shot it in (if I'm not mistaken). Akron looked pretty sloppy the rest of the first half. Coming into the second half, Hartwick stacked 11 players into the box and Akron couldn't do much. Finally we broke the ice and got a goal with around like 20 minutes left. The goal was a pass that wasn't touched and just flew into the goal. That tied it at 2-2. That made Hartwick play offense if they wanted to win, meaning they couldn't stack the box (as easily). This completely gave the green flag for the Zips to just start ripping shots . One just nicked the top of the goal post. Another was saved. Then the red card occurred. I can't really tell you what happened, I wasn't really paying attention to that spot at the time, but all I know was "Potato" was knocked down pretty harshly and then the color red in a form of a rectangle came into the air. This took away Hartwick's 11th player and pretty much gave the game to the Zips. The final goal was so gorgeous. A split the defense pass led to the goal when the goalie came out to try to stop the play. Well, Jeremy, you weren't stopping that. That was pretty much the game. With around 35 seconds left, Akron got into Hartwick's heads and just made them keep kicking it out so the time was wasted. This is when Hartwick got mad and a fight occurred. Such an intense game! I loved it. But for the future Zips, can we please make sure we keep the lead when we score that early? I thought I was going to after Hartwick took the lead. I agree with Go Zips when he says they are the dirtiest team. Lots of cheap shots. Should have been better officiating. But I can't complain. We won! 18-0-0. About the seeding and this game affecting it, I say no way. Strength of schedule is bull crap when you go undefeated in the regular season. So what that Northwestern beat Michigan State. Akron played the best of the Big Ten (minus Northwestern) and beat them all. We beat everyone, and we'll get rewarded. We're the soccer kings! WE ARE AKRON! WE ARE AKRON! WE ARE SOCCER KINGS! Now let's finish strong and when the rest of the games, including the NCAA tourney! 7 games left until !

This is great to hear! If he can stay healthy, we'll have a very strong backcourt. I like this article. Although there were a few mistakes, i thought it was very well written. I'm interested to see what Alex Sullivan can bring to the backcourt. I watched him last year during warmups and he seemed like a great shooter, rarely missing. Call me crazy, but if all goes well, and we have no injuries, we'll be a top 25 team.

Zips #8 in Initial Mid-Major Top 25
Let'sGoZips94 replied to Zipgrad1990's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Seeing all those teams, and seeing us ranked so high, I'm ready for basketball season! -
Any chance we could just kidnap the whole broadcast crew, and force them to show soccer instead?? After they see our football team, we might not have to force them.Speaking of soccer game coverage, will the Big Ten Network broadcast it? I know it's not 2 Big Ten teams, but it's against the #1 team in the nation.

I voted "A successful coach from a lower division". Those lower divisions are still college football. Last time I checked, Appalachian State beat Michigan. Coaches who can coach win, no matter what. Right now, I think we have the talent to be successful once we figure out how to catch a ball and get healthy.

Not to mention people who have had sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, coworkers who went to the two schoolsPeople don't let friends or family go to Can't State. That's what I was taught. It's my GOLDEN RULE. About the rivalry, growing up, my dad pretty much brainwashed me to hate Can't and LOVE the Zips. My mom always tells me the story of how when I was 2, we were driving home from a Zips game and my dad was whistling the Zips fight song. At the end, apparently I woke up and said "GO ZIPS!" then fell back asleep. Back then (in the mid to late 90s), I don't remember too much football, but I do remember a lot of basketball. I remember going to Can't with my parents when I was like 3 to watch the Zips play them in basketball. Each game was a brutal battle until the end. I remember a game at Akron. It was a pretty meaningful game in like '97 or '98. The winner I think was MAC East Champions. Well, Akron lost a close one, but it was one of the most exciting games ever. Every person in the stands was standing and making tons of noise. The rivalry is in my blood. I absolutely loathe Can't State. Throughout middle school, my 5th grade science teacher (who was a Can't fan) would decorate the school in Can't stuff and my Dad and I would go around and cover it all up with Akron stuff. The rivalry is just something you have to believe in to fully understand (I might get ripped for that, but I couldn't think of any better to say it). The more you believe in it, the more it's intensified and the more exciting it is. By the way, is Can't still colorblind? Do they still think their colors are Blue and Gold? Oh well, I think the Zips are gonna take care of business. I've been pretty hard on them, but if JD is good at one thing, it's beating Can't.

He should be like Quinn and "DOWNSIZE".
