  1. And David Mayer. This team will be just fine. I think Mattocks will leave, but he'll be the only non-senior leaving IMO.
  2. I don't think there really is a need for a search committee. I think there is one, but they are just bringing in insignificant names to keep people guessing. I don't think the UofA would have fired Ianello unless they had someone already lined up. That being said, I also believe that someone is a BIG name that can boost attendance, bring in money, etc. (AKA Tressel).
  3. You are correct... from the ncaa men's soccer handbook. An evaluation will be made of institutional facilities to determine if they are acceptable for championship play. Selection of host sites will be based partly on the quality of the playing facility. A facility evaluation form will be made available on the NCAA website to the directors of athletics of all institutions and will be one of the tools used in making this determination. Institutions interested in hosting are to submit the form online by the indicated deadline. Institutions submitting proposed budgets for preliminary rounds must have played the majority of their home games at the site listed on the facility evaluation form. Institutions with inadequate playing surfaces (e.g., inadequate artificial surface, minimum dimensions, etc.) may request a waiver of the policy. Site Selection. The site selection criteria for the Division I men’s soccer championship are as follows (see Appendixes F and G): 60 percent Committee ranking 40 percent (1) Facility— Quality of field surface (60 percent) Evaluation of facility (30 percent) Game management (10 percent) So, basically the ncaa chooses. We'll see how that goes. If that's correct, then man are we sitting pretty. Our field surface is better, with or without snow, and our facility is better. Either way, I think Akron wins this one 2-0 if not better. Let's Go Zips!
  4. From this loss, we found out that OUR BENCH is weak under pressure. Our starting lineup, especially Zeke, was taken out of this game because of the refs. We could not touch them or else it would be a foul. 33-14 fouls in favor of Valpo and 40 FT attempts to our 7 in favor of Valpo. However, that being said all we needed was 1 or 2 baskets and that game is ours. Obviously we failed to do so. That is the ONLY thing I will take away from this game. If it's not for the refs, we win this game. I don't know about easily, but I think we would've won it by double digits. Zeke is a game changer, as his mom has told us many times with her ZN name. Haha. If Zeke is in there for at least 5 more minutes, it's a totally different game. Dambrot had his hands tied a bit, but IMO he was out coached. Valpo, from the start, came out and double teamed the post, taking away our athletic ability and size advantage. Their zone kept them in good shape for conditioning as all they had to do was move from side to side and jump the passing lanes, which the Zips failed to disguise. Valpo had a lot of luck on their side with bounces and such, but they executed the luck. That last 4 minutes were ugly. Dambrot failed to draw up a successful play (uncalled contact had something to do with that IMO), thus leading to a loss. Duquesne and Detroit will be tough match ups, but I believe that we can beat both of them as long as the refs do not take us out of the game. This team is good, very good; it's just early in the season and this game wasn't going our way at all. Go Zips, take care of these next couple of games and let's head into Morgantown with only a single blemish on our record.
  5. WOW. That video sucked! But the 2nd dude wearing the red sweatshirt was pretty smooth. I DARE them to do those moves in the game. No wonder their board liked our video so much. My high school media class could do a better video than that. Haha. The comments on the SMU board were great. They're trying to pump themselves up and boost their confidence, but they know that they have the defending national champs coming in with one of the top recruiting classes in the country. They've allowed 24 goals and they're ripping our defense? Mattocks ALONE has 19. SMU does not scare me. If we play with the effort we did against NW, I think we'll win 2-0.
  6. What's really fishy is how Can't State got 2, end-of-the-season home games in a row against us. Anyone know how that happened?
  7. I watched the beginning of the second half of this game. I wasn't impressed by either team. Can't looked sloppy and got many favorable calls in the first couple minutes of that second half. Can't shot 47% and WVU shot a little better than 30%. I don't know if Can't won this one, or if WVU lost it. WVU shot around 50% from the line and only made 2 threes. I hate Can't, and still am not ready to congratulate them on a win that, IMO, shouldn't have happened. That being said, this is good for Akron. As mentioned earlier, we play Can't twice and so does half of our schedule. Plus, I would have to imagine that the more CSUcks, Can't Statecks, and Akron win, the more attention Akron gets. The WVU game isn't a must win to me, but we should be disappointed if we don't win. Unlike past years where we've been happy with playing BCS schools close, this is the year I believe we will break through and get these big OOC wins. I think are among the elite mid major teams and have a chance to make a name for ourselves across the nation. Go Zips! Can't Statecks! CSUcks!
  8. If the Zips can come out of these next 4 games 4-1 or 5-0, look for us to either be ranked, or at the very least, have a very close amount of votes to the top. This team could turn some heads.
  9. Who wants to open up a Zips Kool-Aid stand with me? Might be the best business on the market with how many people will want to drink it after that quality win. I tweeted at Joe Lunardi last night after the game and said that he might want to change his prediction about Can't State being the 14 seed out of the MAC come tourney time. Dambrot finally got that big, season-changing win. He needed to break through one of these games. This team was the most athletic team out there last night, proving that mostly on the defensive end as we stole pass after pass and pressured/blocked shots all game long. Our offense looked very impressive. Long shots weren't falling all of the time, but we didn't take many of those 3 pointers that we would have in past years against a BCS team. Zeke controlled the paint, Diggs and Abreu controlled the passing lanes, and everyone else doubled the crap out of MSU. As Dicky V would say, "THIS AKRON TEAM IS FOR REAL, BABY! I'M STIRRING UP MY PITCHER OF ZIPPY KOOL-AID, BABY! DIAPER DANDIES AND GOOD COACHING SHOULD TAKE THIS TEAM DEEP IN THE NCAA TOURNEY, BABY!"
  10. Klinsmann Calls 22 Congrats to Teal!
  11. Great, so now they're gonna destroy us AND look sweet.
  12. On the plus side, our punter looks good.
  13. Did Tressel go undercover and become our coach? Gotta love these conservative play calls. NOT!
  14. A draw was to be expected at some point early this season. Like Porter said before the season, the team may not be ready in the beginning, but come tourney time, they will be in a good position to win it all. The goal is still nothing less than winning the national championship.
  15. I think it was '07 or '08 when we played the Suckeyes. I was on my way home from a cross country meet and my dad was giving me updates. He said we were up 2-0. I got to tell all my friends at that moment that we were beating the Suckeyes. Also, the Syracuse win.
  16. There's only 1 thing I need to read on that jersey and that's the name on the front. Other than that, the only other letter/number I need to know is the one on the scoreboard. Other than that, these are some INSANELY cool kits.
  17. Didn't even stay in the lines.
  18. Just FYI, the tallest player on Sheridan's squad is 6'5 and they do not offer athletic scholarships in the CIS. I wouldn't take too much from the score, the Zips should roll in all of these games. Carleton is one of the premier Canadian programs however and should put up a good fight. They are about D2 level in talent as they get a number of D1 transfers who don't pan out in the States. Not a bad test at all, but a lot of these programs are scrubs compared to Division 1 players. Sheridan has forwards in the 6'2-6'4 range which is more along the lines of bad high schools in the states, but is quite the norm north of the border. I'd like to hear more about how the players picked up the coaches schemes, team chemistry, and fluidity on the court. Things like how the bench played, which groups of players played well together, and who started are good things to take from these games. As any D1 coach will tell you, these trips are much more about the practices than the games, which have little benefit in and of themselves. http://www.scgenerals.com/mbball/roster.asp It's actually 6'8, with numerous 6'7 players. No it's not. You're not playing that Sheridan. That's a JUCO in Wyoming. You're playing this Sheridan: http://www.sheridanbruins.com/pages/pop.php?name=mb Ahhh. Thank you sir. My bad. Haha.

  20. That's a great ratio!
  21. I went with Clayton Moore. This team needs a leader on offense, which usually comes from the QB position. Clayton seems to have the background needed to be that leader.
  22. The Snow Bowl in '05 against Can't State where we destroyed them and made it to the MAC Championship Game.
  23. ATTA BOY! Way to represent us tennis players!
  24. I don't like the Capital One Cup. It gives out points based on how popular the sport is, at least that's how it seems. However, HUGE accomplishment. Really nice to see our name up there!
