I think the criticism for KD's schedules was surrounded around being in years 10, 11, 12, 13, and not taking that next leap as a program. Should the program under Groce fail to take that same desired leap, it will get loud. It's also a very different college basketball landscape now compared to KD's tenure. Complete roster overhaul doesn't exactly lend itself to wanting a P4 gauntlet. Competitive mid majors suit this squad better.

It's technically supposed to be a "neutral" environment I believe.

Always love seeing the Gauchos win, especially over UCLA. Their support in 2010 will never be forgotten.

I wonder if we could've added Kentucky as well. They are in the Sun Belt but prior to the MAC's demise in men's soccer, the Sun Belt was pretty far behind. Only recently with their additions of Marshall, WVU, and now Kentucky & South Carolina have they become a viable conference. We'll never know, though, because we have Steinbrecher as a commissioner.

It does. It's the worst FBS level football conference, and now in the bottom 10 of basketball conferences. It continues to fall further and further behind. Wouldn't surprise me if Steinbrecher is safe because the aforementioned schools know they can half-ass it in basketball without repercussions. I'd hate for the conference to have respectable standards we should hold them to...

Akron is 11 pt favorites as of this morning on DraftKings. Lamar does not shoot the 3 ball well so with our pace of play, as long as we make our shots, we should be able to win comfortably.

The zero noisemaker object policy by the NCAA in the tournament is and has always been insanely dumb. Yes, let's nerf the atmosphere at a college soccer match. We wouldn't want the event to be too cool and fun to attend/watch.

He built the MAC brand around week night "MACtion" football. He has finally added a basketball school in UMass, but hasn't added any other basketball-first schools despite being in a relatively rich geographical setting for such addition(s). Just about half the MAC - schools like WMU, CMU, EMU, NIU, Balls, etc. - get to skate by in basketball thanks to maybe, maybe above average G5 football. Very little outside the box thinking to get the MAC more basketball exposure, despite the MAC having as much if not more success in basketball.

If Kent State had a men's soccer program, the headline would read, "Akron unfortunately moves on in NCAA Tourney despite Kent State existing."

You're right - there are more competitive mid majors in basketball which would make scheduling P4s for name sake even more unnecessary.
