There is little incentive for the cream of the crop high school talent to play CBB. There hasn't been for a long time. The NCAA, staying true to their anti-player crooked selves, tried to corner players into playing CBB with the NBA's 1 year requirement rule. That rule worked for as long as there weren't other options. Once the Euro leagues started to get big and pay real money, more talent went overseas. Then the G League grew to combat the international departures, and now the G League is a direct competitor for talent with the NCAA. The way college basketball and football are going, the only solution is going to be replacing scholarships with contracts that involve direct payment from the schools themselves.

We played like dog 💩 in almost every facet. Even Freeman played weak at times, not exploding through contact and kicking it out instead of taking the close 2. JMU was the superior team because they chose to be. They chose to play more physical, they chose to execute their game plan, they chose to be great. We had too many players choose to be mediocre. As others have said, we have 1 month to figure out how to become great. I'd imagine Groce is going to make sure there's no room for mental lapses like we saw last night and in Oxford a couple weeks ago.

Increasing JAR Attendance/Engaging the Fans
Let'sGoZips94 replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
There is so much wrong with this comparison. -
Green never sees the ball the rest of the game. Gotta take him out of this game.
-
MUCH better. Love this run. Great coaching by Groce to get the guys to refocus and reorganize.
-
(Ignore the quote) We are 0 for Everything from beyond the arc. Pathetic. Groce is going to have to coach his ass off this game.

Not in the game of tradition!

PD says Morehead possible candidate for OSU OC position

I don't believe I said he was the top choice? -
PD says Morehead possible candidate for OSU OC position
Let'sGoZips94 replied to egregiousbob's topic in Akron Zips Football
Everything I said is why he's a good fit. Ryan Day is on the hot seat in Columbus. Billy OB was an awful fit for the situation. A widely regarded asshole is going to be entrusted with helping save Day's job? No way. UCLA is a garbage job. He is coming off 3 straight winning seasons in a PAC12 that proved to be competitive. Washed up is a pretty harsh term to use given he recent success. With him only having to focus on the offense, he may prove to be even more successful than he has been in a long time, especially given the talent on OSU's offense. -

Ryan Day played for Kelly at NH, and coached under him twice I believe. It's a good fit. -
Who was asking about this game getting moved?
-
It really is. The P5-P6 are the most protected sports programs in the world. They rarely have to leave the comfort of their own facilities and they automatically get top opponents on their schedules. Ohio State is 13-10 and ranked 72nd despite only 1 Q1/Q2 win. Their schedule props them up. James Madison is 2-1 in Q1/Q2 wins despite 7 less opportunities, and are only 9 spots ahead of the Suckeyes. Conference schedules are more important than ever before. Akron is playing 20 games this year against absolute crap. The mid majors need to figure that out and either all commit to having winning programs, or shuffle the deck to create stronger mid major conferences (i.e. A10, Mountain West, etc.)

Part of this graphic - and maybe a majority of the graphic - is based on social media interaction. EMU has a decent social media presence.

The WCC has largely been a garbage conference with just Gonzaga to tout. St. Mary's has grown to become a strong challenger, but overall the conference has not been great historically. We are a version of Gonzaga for the MAC. 2 decades of always being at or near the top of the conference. The conference has a comparably great media deal with ESPN & CBSSports, a terrific relationship with the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse to host, etc. The Akron job will be an attractive one until it isn't (see Buffalo).
-
Zero. I'm not saying Groce won't leave for one of the bigger jobs, but my only concern is whether or not we make it into the Big Dance and win a Tourney game. After this year, the program resets anyways. A lot of question marks regardless of Groce's employment.

Class of '24 Recruits & Verbal Commitments
Let'sGoZips94 replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Is this across the board? I've only seen non FBS commits on X all morning. -
Top of the key/elbow are only a couple feet difference from the 3 pt line. Risk/reward of those few feet isn't worth it. Give me a 3 pt attempt over a deep 2 pt jumped any day of the week.

17 & 15 last night. A good showing versus JMU and he'll have another MAC POTW. In addition, if he has a good showing against JMU on ESPN2, he should start getting legitimate national attention.

TJ Bickerstaff - any relation to the Cavs Head Coach? I'm excited for this one. 6pm on Saturday on ESPN2 - and it's not the MAC Tourney Championship game. Q1 win on the line (for us). Go Zips!
-
Wow. We actually moved up 4 spots.
-
His offensive progression this year has been a blast to watch.
-
Yeah, being part of such a dog 💩 conference is tiresome. We just beat the #2 team in the conference by 21 and we'll probably drop in the NET.
