  1. Really.....You, you think I'm good at this stuff? .......Well, that does it, throw my name in the hat for AD! *votes for you*
  2. Agreed. I don't know why they are pummeling the people who already have season tickets with information to buy MORE season tickets. I agree with getting info to alumni as a starting point be we need to expand. If we can spend money to put what, 2,3 billboards near I-75 in DETROIT for the MCB, we should easily be able to scrounge up enough money to put one well placed billboard in Cleveland, on the West side, on the East Side, and between Akron and Cleveland, and one in Canton. Maybe say something like:Show the "Fear the Roo" logo looming over the new press tower with"Fear has a new home""1-888-99-Akron"or"Big Time football, Big Time Stadium""1-888-99-Akron"or"New Stadium, New Attitude""1-888-99-Akron"or"Big 10 football comes to Akron! Get your tickets NOW""1-888-99-Akron"or"NCAA DI Football in the Nations newest stadium for just $$$$" "1-888-99-Akron"and lets see some TV commercials! PLEASE don't use that cheesy "Be a part, from the start" jingle....UH. Cough up the cash, pay some royalties and use some Kick @$$ music! God, we've put so many ideas out there I hope they at least do SOMETHING!QFT!I like the "Fear has a new home" lol seriously.Know what I suspect the problem with marketing people is? They live in the world of marketing and they regurgitate the same stuff that surrounds them everyday.Take one guy off the street with half a wit and he throws out some great tag lines.(not saying you have only half a wit Zipsrifle. )I also agree on the music. Anyone here familiar with the kinds of royalties paid for putting some music in a couple of commercial runs? I'll bet it's not that bad.Not only was that "be a part from the start" jingle lame sounding, but the whole idea was wasted. You can pretty much bet that someone had a meeting and someone raised the (valid) point that since we don't have a strong tradition as a program nor are we vogue from winning lately, people don't feel a sense of investment and they have no urge to take ownership in the zips or the new stadium, so they should take the angle that a new tradition is starting and you might miss the boat on it.Well, then some witty chap probably piped up with the "be a part from the start" line and everyone was all like "OMG it rhymes that's clever" But there's one problem with that. People are too jaded and cynical to just be told "be a part". You have to make your case, and maybe more importantly, you have build up a mystique. You don't just blurt "be a part"This isn't rocket science.
  3. I haven't heard one way or another if they will sod or seed. One thing I do know is that you don't seed in August without one heck of a watering system in NEO. You can begin to seed in September and grass will grow into November in NEO.They could have seeded it over 2 months ago!I have planted grass in late spring before.Hell, even if it's not lush, it would have been thick enough to take a couple of saturdays worth of wear in the fall. There is no reason not to have tried to plant grass on there in April when it was graded. Even if it wasn't thick enough to seat people, at least it would have been nice and green for games instead of dirt city. What would that have been? $500 worth of seed? Oh noez were over budget nowz!epic fail
  4. Is this what happens when people can write but have zero common sense?Aside from the points you guys bring up about us, it sounds like she was going for some sort of angle and didn't care if it made any sense at all.First, most of the current projects were planned and put on the books before the so called recession.Secondly, most universities are affected less by recession. In fact, it would seem that many are helped.
  5. Stairwell doubles as bomb shelter! and the original slabs of concrete that they laid down on there (before they covered it with tar and poured more layers of concrete on it) looked on cams like they were over 12" thick. That bunker could sustain a direct hit.Seriously though, I am assuming they were worried about a standing crowd of a thousand people during or just after a game. That's not the sort of roof you make out of sticks and thatch. You mean we can stand on top of the stairwell roof? AWESOME!!!!!lulall this time I thought you guys were complaining about how many layers they were putting on the endzone facilities. ... and yes, I'm sure you can stand on the stairwell bldgs (they could have designed them as tiki huts)

  7. The coaches will want the scoreboard (more specifically, the clocks) operating in time for practices.Figure they'll also be putting up the poles and nets to catch the extra point and field goal kicks? Two of the coaches bought wrist watches so the scoreboard clock will not really be required for practice.Would it not be beneficial for the clocks to be in the approprate locations so the players can becaome accustomed to them? I figure that is part of the home field advantage. The reason they use the clocks during practices is that so all of the coaches can see at a glance how much time is left in each particular drill. With 120 or so people spread out around the field doing all different things, a couple of wristwatches aren't enough. But hey, why waste an opportunity to make a snarky remark. Some people on the list apparently live for it.hah, sorry BZ, but I somewhat enjoyed his snarky remark. It wasn't enough for me to laugh out loud, but it curled a lip.Lighten up please. Life is better that way. Kthanx
  8. I changed "with plans to expand to 44,000 in the near future." to "with the pre-designed capability for expansion to about 45,000."
  9. lolwtf guys, I'm sensing a lot of angstiness over these stairwells
  10. lol ya. That was the word I was looking for. Thanx. It seems like they are going to bring in sod, because otherwise, why not seed by now?
  11. They reall are moving. I was worried but now it is looking great. Do you think grass will have time to grow if blown in on the berm?yeah, I can't believe the never planted the grass. All that soil just gets erosion topography without grass and they'll have to go back and smooth it out again. I'd think they'd want thick full 4 month grass growth.Maybe they'll bring in pregrown grass like landscapers do?
  12. Yes... as I said, the media just wants the video so they can use it against LeBron. Most of them probably have nothing against LeBron. They just want to create a moment of infamy because that is what sensationalism is all about.Since they are denied that video, they are going to ride this whole things hard as a "controversy".LeBron/Nike are smart to withhold the video. You can tell just how infamous the video would be just by the way the media is acting. So, Lebron/Nike are going to have to swallow the less bitter of two pills.
  13. Dude, genius. Absolute genius. I especially like the idea of posting these ads in other states. When I was in junior high, my friends and I always picked the Zips in NCAA football '05 because of the overall obscurity of the name. Our original reason for picking Akron was because my friend had a zips hat. He said some guy walked up to him and handed him the hat. My friend says, "what's this?" He says "it's a zip." Me and my friend always laughed. Wtf? Why is a kangaroo called a zip? It was that obscurity and frankly, the humor, that drove us to use Akron in EVERYTHING from then on. The ironic part is that I eventually ended up here as a student. I never thought that would happen. And while we're on the topic of marketing...why isn't the whole' FEAR THE ROO' Logo combined with akron football more often. There's only shirts that say 'Akron football' or other Fear the Roo shirts. All the sports should have their own version of Fear the roo apparel!I like all this but I think "What's a zip" seems a little too odd in a bad way.Let's get a obscure even yet a little more.... I might have suggested "Got Zip?" if that dairy campaign never existed. So how about being even more mysterious and obscure and just run huge signs that say Zip?It's psychology. If you direct the inquiry at someone "What's a zip?"Their mind responds emotionally "Who cares..."But if you make it more obscure "Zip?"Then it becomes a mystery and their mind responds with "huh? What new thing am I not hip to here?"of course, it helps if you then go out and shock a ranked opponent and then people are like "Ohhhh!"
  14. If you read between the lines, what the article is really saying is"please please please... make a big deal out of this issue for us because we are pissed that we got our wittle tape stolezed from us and and since we can't use it to embarrass Lebron with it we are going to try to embarass him without it so we need your help"
  15. I realize this is highly unlikely, but I wish someone could get a picture of the view up to the west structure from field level.
  16. OMG NOEZZZ!!!I hope they paid up their insurance on teh Info!!!(sorry, stressful day at work. I needed a quick hit
  17. You're spot on that most students don't even know about this. I've told other students about games and taken a few to games in past years that had no idea that all they had to do was flush their Zipcard and walk through the gate. I have to say, I'm absolutely underwhelmed by the marketing job they are doing with this stadium. I'm actually wondering if people in this community are even going to know about the thing when it is done. I guess the real question is, "if Akron builds a new stadium, and noone knows about it, is it really new?"I can only dream how nice it would have been to have had this stadium when I was a student. My God.... how could you not go to a game on Saturday if you live on or near campus and all you got to do is zing out your zip card to get in????? I mean, even if you aren't a sports fan, what the hell else you going to be doing on a saturday afternoon? It's like a freaking gift! Now, off campus-commuter students, that's a different story...
  18. I love the aesthetics of it. Ye Ole Campus probably seems so different now. :sniff:
  19. I was against the decision to go into Iraq (not Afgh) but you would never catch me booing a soldier. I have no idea what it takes for your mind to make the absurd association between booing someone who serves their country and the political leadership in washington DC. If anything, you should stand up and admire someone who signs up to serve and sacrifice during a time when the potential sacrifice is high for reasons that may not seem agreeable. No, honestly, I can't agree with your hypothesis. When you boo a soldier, you're saying something about your view of soldiers. I'm really not sure how anyone could make the mistake of associating the attempted humiliation of service personnel as a protest against government leadership. free speech can never get out of hand. There is no such thing as too much positive discourse. The problem comes when some people cannot discern between a differing opinion and something that seems personal against them.Offering an alternative opinion to someone is a gift. Getting mad and calling their mama ugly is the opposite.I like the fact that zipsnation members occasionally engage in political discussion without the problems you see among immature people.

That's odd. It's giving ME the strangest urge to PM the great GP1 BLOCKZORED! GP1 put some kaopectate in his PM plumbing
  21. or, if you are desperate enough, you could go into the PM Blocker and start adding everyone
  22. What a neighborly aire you have about you.I honestly don't know if I have ever sent a PM here, but regardless, wow.BTW, I think that is the sorta feature that would probably be a custom addon. I've never heard of that being a standard option on most boards
  23. I basically said all that (see my first post) and as I said there, I find it understandable (except I revised my feeling in my second post because of the way she did it, IE interrupting him condescendingly) but I don't think it means she isn't a bitch. If a male senator did the same thing, he'd be a bitch too.
