Honestly, this thing didn't bother me at first. But the more I think about it, the more it bothers me.These representatives are elected to SERVER THE PEOPLE.They may hold distinguished and honorable positions, but inevitably, what this woman is doing is saying that she is better than everyone else. Those Senators hold hearings and they want to intimidate those who testify. They demand prestige like some sort of despot.I find it distasteful the more I think about it. Those representatives are there to serve the people. Not necessarily vice versa.

who cares? If I was the general, I'd be like "okay no problem, Senator".If she has a hangup about titles, it wouldn't be the first. Some professional women also have a hangup about titles. They are afraid that the vestiges of patriarchal dominant culture precludes many men from addressing them as Doctor so-and-so. Most of the time, it's probably not a warranted fear, but you know, you'll have your issues. What i find funny about Boxer is the "I worked so hard..." comment.A doctor who goes through 7 years of school and years of internship/residency worked hard.A politician who comes out through the ranks backed by party machines? Not so much.

The weather is pretty bad today. It's supposed to storm all week, too.At this point most of the construction should be happening indoors, though. Wiring, plumbing, etc.You can't just substitute steel workers for electricians can you??lul yeah sure"Ay, weld me some 10 gauge wire up over here""Hey Bob, we terminate wires into contactors here""What? With rivots then?"

I picked Can't and it's sort hard to put in words exactly why. First off, things just wouldn't be as interesting without odd cant to kick around.Secondly, if I had to pick which games (besides Akron) I would watch, Can't would be on top. I'm definitely not saying I would root for them, but I would be most likely to watch them.Third, when we are good and Can't is good, things are more interesting. This sounds like #1 but the difference isn't that subtle.Fourth, if UA never existed and I never went there, then Can't would be most like the hometown team. Sorry. It's true. Fortunately we don't have to live in that hypothetical dimensional universe where UA doesn't exist, and life is good.BTW, I'm not saying I would have gone to Can't. I got accepted to OSU and they were my second choice, and I never applied to Can't.

Working three shifts per day is a sure sign they are behind schedule. Second and third shifts are especially costly. That logic is fairly sound, but you gotta remember that a lot of subcontractors are on the hook for a deadline. So, it's up to them to decide how much they are going to work, and whether it's within their budget to work people over. They put in bid for their work and if they go over it's their own problem. Some subcontractors could be behind, and others may not. What is worse, the general can be breathing down some of their necks because, of course, other subs can't even get in to do their work until others have finished certain things.

UA advertising, What do you think?
zen replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I agree with you k.s.u_sucks, but I think that if you are going to use the current style (Proenza sitting and communicating all of UA's merits) then it doesn't quite go far enough. To the first part of my point, I really do think that they could advertise in a style like you speak of, but they have to do it the right way. Immerse the viewer in the sensory experience of the campus and what it would be like to "be there" at the University and all the things that it offers..... but don't insult their intelligence and try to hard to do it in some "hip" way, because odds are some ad agency just wont hit that target and will end up putting off kids (potential students) and perhaps even moreso the parents. So, as you said, just SHOW all the nice things about the campus and what UA has to offer, and package it in a good but open style without pretense and canned hype. But, to the second part of my point, the Proenza commercials talk to me. I dont' mind them. At least, I don't mind the aura of an intelligent and sincere guy communicating openly about UA. I don't mind the montage of images in the background... .but the pixie-sprite looking animation poping out of his hand is sorta ghey. But my point is, a commercial like that actually appeals to a lot of people because most ads are trying too hard to SELL, and the Proenza commercials just appear to communicate a message. I suspect you don't give people enough credit they are due. A lot of people would rather just get talked to instead of being sold. People are cynical and find it refreshing when a message is just put out there rather than packaged and over-hyped. But I don't think his message go far enough. I think they could say more. I know time is a constraint but they usually just seem to give what seems like a fast rundown. I really think that they should push the information envelope and say more. Drop the disney sprite and open the throttle on your message. So yes, I think they should do something like the Stanford commercial that you posted. I also think they can do the Proenza ads, but I think that they can do those even better. Talk to the audience, but don't be timid about what we got. Pour it on... not like a used car salesman... but with heart -
I'm sure most players in the NFL, even established starters, think about what it would be like if their career ended and they suddenly had to take a pay cut in the hundreds of thousands to even in the millions. But in the fore-front of Charlies mind, I am quite sure, thoughts like these rarely dwell. The moment you aren't living and dying to get on that field and winning is the moment you may as well pack your bags because you don't belong there.
-
wow, that's pretty clever.I like that!
-
wow I did not expect them quite yet. I didn't think about it, but I guess I figured the field would go in first.

Call me corny, but I kinda like that. If the Outback steakhouse blimp is in any way affiliated with Goodyear then that just adds to it. Ya know, the Athletic department doesn't tap into the whole Australian outback theme nearly enough. I told my brother (who occasionally talks to some guys who own a few Outback restaurants) a few years ago that Outback should have sponsored the stadium. That would have been perfect because of our Kangaroo mascot and stuff. He told me the problem was that they sponsored a bowl game and don't want to be too heavily associated with too many teams.

You have to read between the lines of this article.Basically, they are predicting another dismal year for indiana, with only a few wins, but they don't actually want to say so, because that is too much of an insult even if it's true.

And on such a positive note, we have our 1,000th reply in the stadium thread.By the way, can SOMEONE update the webcam links in the original post please?and when you change it the links, change the title to:Live Stadium Cams Are Live!!!!!I was at the Avon Lake Ball Park last week and their turf had the rubber particles mixed in, and I didn't get to see what was under it, but when you walk on the field it is actually softer than real life. It makes you want to jump on it or do some big-time-wrestling take downs. lol

We need a Big MAC and little MAC. I smell endorsement money.I could see the Big-10 taking Rutgers if they really felt it would increase the bottom line*raises hand*

At least you are still alive and only sleeping. I'm dead with a lot of credit to this topic.not just dead.... "beaten to the point where you could drink the remnants" WV is a blatantly obvious fit for the big10.Even with our lack of dominance, I think that if you look at the overall state of things in our top sports indicates that we are poised to have a lower risk of being a detriment to the Big East than many other candidates. In other words, even though we are not a spectacular gem to add to their crown, our potential risk of sliding is comparatively appealing

New electronic football brochure for InfoCision Stadium
zen replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
much better indeed...and that music is exactly what I was talking about when we were critiquing the "be a part from the start" advertisement when I thought we needed some dramatic symphonic stuff like in NFL films. -
or that could be wishful delusions.I'm not questioning your intuition. I just know that people sometimes see things how they want to see them. From everything I have read Payne coming to Akron would be a great situation for the team and for him, but I just don't know about all this optimism.
-
I found this on the Can't bbs board. Really? Just because Akron's bigger party school...there probably is some off-campus element that ruins it.I remember when we used to have those huge block parties with nearly 100 kegs around Katherine place. They were great for a few years when everyone from school came and had a great time... and even when things got rowdy and a few fires got started. But in later years people came in and start a lot of shit for the sake of starting shit, and it pretty much all had to end.

Anyone here work in the sports marketing dept?
zen replied to vmd9's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
do any side work? freelance/contract/projects -
Hold on. I'll ask your mother

If I am being snooty when I consider it lame to get a much vaunted 60 million dollar new stadium and fans only get plain hard planks to sit on, then I think there are probably a lot of snooty people to join me.

I'm just not sure what a change to the logo design has to do with femininity. Seemed like a stretch. It's not interior decorating. lol

so, I'll just play dumb and actually ask to put it on the table, are you trying to insult me?
