I certainly didn't want to Like your post, but then neither could I decide between the Laugh or Cry emoji. I think I'll go with Cry.

Position Preview (and updates) - Defensive Line
Blue & Gold replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football
Kiwan Murphy looks awesome. Is there any way a true freshman could start on the DL? That'd be pretty remarkable. What are the physical prototypes looked for in D-linemen when running a 3-4 scheme? I'm more used to the 4-3, where you typically have 2 beefy DT's and 2 leaner, more athletic DE's. With 3 DL's, are there two typical DT's and 1 typical DE who switches sides depending on the offensive alignment? (I'm going to ask a similar question when we get to the 4 linebackers.) -

Position Preview (and updates) - Running Back
Blue & Gold replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football
I predict we'll probably redshirt Kellom, leaving us with four young, legit D-1 caliber backs in Norrils, Williams, Wiley, and Price. I'll take a stab at the depth chart: 1. Norrils (So.) 2. Price (R-So.?) 3. Williams (R-So.) 4. Wiley (R-So.) Caveat: Blake Hester was a very serviceable replacement after our RB crew was decimated last season. It'll be interesting to see if he's put on some weight during the offseason. I can't see him being our #1, but with his hard, one-cut-and-go, north-south running I could see him taking the place of Williams (whom I thought was pretty underwhelming) and/or Wiley (who's awfully light for a 6-2 back). And I know zilch about Dae'Vontay Latimer. -

6-0, 210. Nice sized back! Hope he’s got some wheels. -
Position Preview (and updates) - Tight End

@catdaddyp Thank you for another outstanding analysis. I'll admit that TE is a position I usually find easy to overlook. -
I'm taking that as an April Fool's joke. We're lucky... LUCKY... LUCKY to have such a popular mascot. Don't mess with Zippy.

😅 Missed this one earlier today

Yeah, it's a gamble. When you enter the TP you forfeit your scholarship.

On my phone so can’t post link, but we’ve received a verbal commitment from an OL. Maurice Long, 6-6, 285, out of South Point, Ohio. -

Position Preview (and updates) - Quarterback

Thank you so much for this! This series is going to be great! DJ is definitely the clear cut #1 coming into Spring Ball. But I'm glad you like what you see in Marousek. I think Joey is surprisingly athletic (he played short stop in HS baseball) and might surprise some people in what he can do in JoeMo's system. -
The can of worms is open now. Is there any way to put the toothpaste back into the tube? I've thought this for about a week but hadn't posted, but if you look at the list of transfers on the Verbal Commits website is absolutely ludicrous. This simply is not sustainable. I think (hope?) It'll work itself out over the next handful of years. Kids will see that the grass is not typically greener on the other side of the fence. (I think our current roster will learn this while watching what happens with Ali's career.)

I liked Azis' potential and liked having a 7-footer... but I'm thinking old school. The game really has changed and Aziz not being an offensive threat anywhere but inside 2-feet of the basket really was a liability... especially in today's game. Give me a 6-8 post player (call him a "center" if you want) who can run the floor and stretch the floor on the offensive end with an outside/mid-range shot. Who knows how he'll ultimately develop, but right now Aziz is essentially a mediocre rim-protector.
