  1. If we were Malone or Walsh we'd be fine, but presently we only have 2 players on the team over 6'6"
  2. I'm only familiar with Josh Chandler (McKinley) and Tre'Von Morgan (Massillon). I'd love to see us land Josh Chandler. I think I tagged one of the Zips coaches in a retweet from him when I saw he was entering the Portal. He's a good LB & I think would make an excellent MAC LB. Tre'Von Morgan, who originally signed with Michigan State, is... underwhelming. He's a physical specimen (6-6. 225?) but hasn't yet produced much between the lines. It was sort of the same way in high school; he was definitely recruited because of his potential, not because of actual on-field production. In high school he was clearly a man amongst boys, but he doesn't really have the greatest hands in the world. He would typically make one spectacular, eye-popping, highlight-film-making catch per game... but drop a couple easier catches. And he's a bit of a tweener - a little too big, i.e., not quite explosive enough, for WR and doesn't seem quite strong enough for TE (at the D-1 college level). Maybe he's added some weight. Idk. But either way, I like it when local products are on the team. Fun Fact on Tre'Von: his uncles (I believe that's the relation) played at Akron: Christian Morgan (6-4, 220) was a RB at Akron for one year and Marco Morgan (6-9) was a C/PF on the basketball team for two years. The genes in that family are obviously amazing. Bonus Fun Fact on Christian Morgan: man was I hyped when Lee Owens signed him. He's one of the most gorgeous athletes I've ever seen put pads on. I thought he'd be a 3-year All-MAC caliber player. But we also signed another RB that year out of the Pittsburgh area named Brandon Payne. End of story. Payne went on to become one of the greatest Zips RB of all time. (I think Christian also had academic issues as I don't believe he ever graduated.)
  3. This is really what we probably need. In '19-'20 we had Cam Reece backing up Riak.
  4. “The scheme that I come from is multiple enough that we can play with a four-man front or a three-man front and we’re just going to try to figure out what our guys do well,”...
  5. I like this guy. He gives us another guard who can score "off the bounce," as the kids say. PG...Castenada..... Clarke..... Tavari G.....Hankerson..... Tribble.... Kobe G.... Dawson......... Johnson... Prather W.... Wynn............ ??? P.... Freeman....... Hunter And maybe we don't need another wing. We lost a wing in Ali, but as is our lineup now has the potential to mirror our MAC Championship '19-'20 team: PG: LCJ.......... Castenada G: Cheese.... Hankerson G: Banks....... Dawson S4: Williams.... Hunter P: Riak............ Freeman
  6. 99% sure just one.
  7. He’s certainly not a wing at 6-2. We needed another G? I’m guessing he’s a good 3-point shooter but Idk.
  8. On my phone but we got a Verbal from NIU’s Trendon Hankerson. Another intra-conference transfer. Weird. I’d he any good?
  9. Still... need... a... wing...
  10. @94zipgrad, any idea who the 7’1” guy was?
  11. 💯💪 *Disclaimer: The "Z" is a registered trademark of The University of Akron Athletics Department and should not be construed as an endorsement the Russian war effort against Ukraine. 🤪
  12. I had heard from someone that Cam Wiley looked an awful lot bigger than his listed 180. Well, this article states Cam is 6-2, 215 (with breakaway speed!). Now that's more like it! I was worried about a RB who was 6-2, but only 180. 215? Now we're talking! Go Zips!
  13. With the commitment of Sammy Hunter, our roster is already looking good, but we still need one more legit wing to try & fill some of Ali's big shoes. PG: X..................Clarke......... Tavari Johnson G: Tribble.........Kobe G: Dawson.......Nate W: Wynn.......... P: Freeman.....Hunter Point Guard: X is set in stone as the starter & may be a preseason All-MAC selection. Clarke was coming on at the end of the year getting big (and productive) minutes in big games. I think Tavari Johnson will redshirt (a minority opinion on the board - I think he'll need a year in the weight room). G: I think Kobe will be a starter come MAC play. He'll likely be our #1 shooter from the jump next season and he's had a year to acclimate to the intensity of D1 ball. Tribble's lack of an outside shot still worries me. I think that come MAC play Tribble will be bringing great energy and leadership off the bench. G: I like Dawson in the starting lineup. He's a junkyard dog and has a nice outside shot. I think he'll hold the starting spot over Nate... for at least this year. (I think Nate will be our best player and face of the team after X & Freeman graduate.) W: Gaping hole here. We need a strong wing who can come in and start from Day One. P: Hunter is the Stretch 4 we were looking for. He and Freeman could see a lot of time on the court together as he'll compliment Freeman much better than Aziz did. If we could run 3 guards with Freeman & Hunter on the court together it'd be great. But we still need a true 6'6"-ish wing, IMHO. EDIT: I forgot to include incoming freshman Ryan Prather. He's a 6-5 guard. At 6-5 could he add to our depth at wing?
  14. Ouch. Lonisia Brewer transferred to Toledo
  15. Same. I like saying “Once a Zip always a Zip,” but that is always in reference to graduates or to those who transfer because they want to transfer down due to lack of PT at this level. It does not apply to someone who was supposed to be a cornerstone of the team going forward and decides to bolt. Don't let the door hit you…
