I was thinking about this yesterday. Soccer, basketball & football putting up W's after W's after W's. Man, it's good to be a Zip!
-
K.ent's gonna be coming after our punts tonight. Gasser's a little slow in getting those punts off.
-
We don't have much of a rivalry with NIU because they've been dominant in football while we've been awful, and we've been dominant in basketball while they've been awful.
-
I thought that was actually a pretty good article

Our main rival is K.ent State. Kent is a suburb northeast of downtown Akron. It takes less than 15-minutes to get from UA to KSU. Though K.ent calls themselves the Golden Flashes, their mascot is an eagle-looking bird. The above picture is a dead flash. Lol

It'd be nice to at least be able to track how many points & fouls each player has.

Akron Local Recruiting Targets
Blue & Gold replied to wadszip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
East seems to be the new bully on the block... but we'll see if they sustain their success. East has won the City Series 2 years in a row now. Buchtel's still tough, though. It's a shame neither made the playoffs, as both could have made some noise. Garfield has really fallen off. They're now combined with Kenmore & presently the school's called "Kenmore-Garfield." Idk if they're going to change that name, or not. They kept the maroon & gold colors & the rams mascot, so it wasn't really a merger of two equals. Lots of tradition @ Garfield. Firestone cranks out some nice individual talent once-in-a-while, but they rarely have a team to write home about. North is abysmal. Last year Ellet was very good; this year they were awful. So, who knows. -
... K.ent State still sucks! ^^This is where I am in my thinking. I just can't figure out why it took the staff 4 years to get the recruiting ball rolling. I thought with names like Bowden and Amato it'd happen immediately. Whatever. It's rolling now & that's all that matters.

2018 Mentor QB Tadas Tatarunas

He sounds great! Do you know if he's been contacted by any UA coaches? They have to be aware of him. Is he a late bloomer? -
Here's a good game summary from GT! ABJ: Zips shoot their way to 76-59 win over UT Martin Lots of good stats in above article. Lots to be optimistic about... and a lot to be concerned with. I think this is going to be a fun, roller coaster of a year.

Three For Thursday [Golden Flashes @Zips]

Yeah, I've got to think the job is now Kato's. Woodson blew it for himself. Only put Woodson in if Kato really struggles. We had our most dynamic offensive performance of the year with Kato at QB (and against one of the better D's in the conference). Go Kato. Winning the MAC East, playing in Detroit & then in the bowl game will give Kato an extra month of practice to hit the ground running next year. -
Maybe it's wise not to have individual stats posted... thinking of Jimmond. He's still pressing & had another sub-par game. Once he settles into his role, alongside Utomi & Duvivier, this is going to be a good team. Love Parrish & Sayles as FRESHMEN! Sayles is a full-grown man & I keep reminding myself that Parrish is a RS-Freshman, but none-the-less, he plays with the poise of an upperclassman. Wow. I also see a lot of potential in Patton's game. He's not as athletic as the others, but he's fundamentally sound, has the proverbial high basketball IQ, and has good size and length. I really appreciate his rebounding. Once the game slows down just a bit for him & he starts hitting his outside shot his confidence is going to double-up. I don't appreciate Poke's game. Not last year; not this year. He blocks shots but does nothing else... okay... he wins the jump ball. Lol. Maybe in time we'll develop the team chemistry where, like last year, we can work to get him alley-oops once in a while? If he ever creates a shot on his own before he graduates I'll be pleasantly surprised. At least he's not fouling like he did last year. Surprised Kostelac didn't get a single minute last night. He doesn't look like a stiff, and we need help inside. Maybe we're planning on redshirting him to help alleviate the "9-sophomores problem" being discussed in the Scholarship Chart thread? I wasn't feeling well so just watched ESPN3 from the couch last night. As was mentioned earlier, Reghi kept saying UT-M was 3-0. His color analyst (I'm drawing a blank on her name right now, but I like her) even tried to correct him (twice, I think) but he kept going back to 3-0. Still can't believe we've got FIVE freshman on this team. Gotta prepare myself for a bumpy ride this year, but man, is this group gonna be good!

Crawford’s last season was the first year I started following the Zips. I think I remember the ABJ wanting UA to retain Crawford because he had a son who was a great player at Firestone. After Crawford got canned I believe I remember his son signing with Florida State. Back then I remember watching one of my all-time favorite Zips -Tron Jenkins ??? -
I think Keith Kennedy announced it was 28 during the 4th quarter.

It was great seeing redshirt FRESHMAN Kato Nelson thoroughly outplay Rourke. Unless Rourke wanted to get a lot of experience holding a clipboard, it looks like he made the right choice in not coming to UA! How great is it knowing we're not going to have to worry about the QB position for THREE years?!!

This is where I am. I definitely click the articles. I usually post the links here too. I guess I have to remind myself that the articles really aren't written for guys like me - guys who probably know more about the Zips than GT does. They're written for people with little-to-no knowledge of the team. Idk if that's an accurate statement, but that's what I tell myself to keep from getting too discouraged. Hey, at least there are articles. What infuriates me is when there are no articles at all.

No, he heard correctly. I also heard it announced at 28-degrees. I then checked my phone and the weather app said it was 32. But none-the-less. But because there was no wind I was fine.

Three For Thursday [Golden Flashes @Zips]

Add Dustin Burkhart, Daishawn Brimmage, Marquise Bridges, and Treon Sibley. We’re gonna be young but stacked like pancakes with some great talent. -
This is completely level-headed and understandable. I hate the midweek games. I went last week (and scrapped up two friends to come with me) but I really tempered my friends’ expectations before we went. 1. I was expecting to get blown out by OU. 2. It was a cold Tuesday night - I didn’t get home till 11:30. And 3. The TV timeouts have made the games less enjoyable to watch. I don’t blame anyone for just watching the games from the comfort of their own home. Somehow... someway... we’ve got to turn the games into “events.” Have them be “the place to be.” p.s. I was watching last night’s USF -v- Tulsa game. USF is located in St. Petersburgh, FL (i.e. great weather) & their record is 8-1... they may have had 1000 more people at their game than we had at ours. Maybe.

Not me... Pittsburgh's too close for comfort. I'm also happy to see the Pitt Panthers in such disarray. -
If everyone would stomp on the upper-level bleachers on D it would make a TON of noise. It's what I do... and then look around sheepishly as no one joins in... :/

One kitten poster wrote: "While Miami is our traditional rival, I dislike Akron a lot more..." I feel the same way about them. While K.ent is our traditional rival, this OU thing, man...
