  1. It's twitter, so I'm likely reading too much into this tweet by Dunn-Martin, but it's still interesting:
  2. Akron Beacon: Zips look to regain 'mojo,' clinch MAC title Friday at Buffalo If we win tonight we clinch at least a tie (not an outright title), right?
  3. Would love to see high-quality soccer productions.
  4. Man, we've been doing that in what seems like forever. Zeke used to pick up 2 cheap fouls a game that way.
  5. Thanks! Not long ago at all. Can't believe I don't remember that.
  6. When's the last time we lost 3 MAC games in a row?
  7. I think Kest has proven to be a very good coach. So to see the team plummet like it has this season really caught me off guard.
  8. I suppose this is as good a thread as any... Producing sports broadcasts for ESPN means valuable experience for students, exposure for UA
  9. Btw, hey fellas, give this a "Like," will you? Mike Popovich is an Akron alum & fan & a sports reporter for the Repository. Let him (and the Rep) know we like Akron/MAC coverage.
  10. Nice interview with GT & Sam Bourquin. They reiterate many of our laments.
  11. +1. I think they teach you to "stop the ball" in 2nd, or possibly 3rd grade.
  12. Josh didn't play last night d/t his sprained ankle. But it's funny you should mention Josh and Noah. I've used that same "too cool for school" saying earlier in the year about these two guys. In high school I loved how Josh was always "cool as a cucumber." The same goes for Noah's freshman year. But when things are swirling around the drain, you want to see passion and fight, pee-n-vinegar. I've noted on a couple occasions when Josh is on the floor it looks like he just woke up from a nap. Same goes with Noah. A Hoosiers-esque move might be great. Play TDM. At least he's got spunk & fight.
  13. Hey, now...
  14. Akron Beacon: Zips fall 66-65 in waning seconds at BUGS
  15. When our threes are falling it's an exciting brand of basketball, but (aside from the Golden State Warriors),
  16. I've been saying this as well. Gently, but truthfully. We're not nearly as good as our record indicates. Winning by the skin of our teeth in the MAC. Even if we'd go undefeated in the MAC by winning by the skin of our teeth, that's a recipe for another 1st-round exit in the Big Dance.
  17. Ah, I was a little confused by your comments at first. By "sketchy" you mean risky. When I hear "sketchy" I think "shady," or under-handed. A sight that depends upon paid subscriptions as opposed to advertising revenue would be forced to produce a quality product, as opposed to simply baiting for clicks.
  18. I'm still a bit confused by this new fangled ESPN arrangement. Tonight's game is listed on ESPN3, but was picked up by Spectrum Sports (like, apparently every single Zips game). Does this mean it will be blacked out on ESPN3 tonight?
  19. +1. The ABJ's coverage is simply not professional quality. A 16 year-old with a blog, a conscience, and a little zest for the gig could easily trump the ABJ's Zips' coverage every time. The ABJ obviously has no employee performance reviews or even an industry-standard concern for quality.
  20. Kwan's gotta try to drive to the hoop a bit more, just to keep defenders honest & on their heels a bit more. They were all over him on the 3-line. Good for K.ent, btw, they did a great job with that. Big Dog is pretty much a constant. But it seems apparent that as Kwan goes, so the team goes.
  21. Akron Beacon: Zips look to rebound on rod after record home winning streak snapped This has been my take as well: The Zips haven’t been winning in dominating fashion like a team looking to close out the season by sending a message to prospective opponents in the Mid-American Conference Tournament. Bluntly, I don't think we're as good as our record would indicate. We've played a fairly weak schedule and have a bunch of close wins over MAC opponents. Better than a bunch of close losses, for sure. But we're not blowing out anyone in the MAC & I don't think we strike much fear in the hearts of anyone. “We’ve been playing like this all year,” Dambrot said. “We haven’t been kicking anybody’s ass. It’s unfortunate.” Oh, and Breaking News: George Thomas has reported that this year the MAC Tournament is being held at Cleveland State. "...in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, set for the first week of March at Cleveland State."
  22. Jatavis was at the K.ent game and apparently yesterday was his birthday. Awesome of him to come back for the big game on his birthday weekend
