  1. Valpo began the season with a close, 9-point loss at Arizona 73-64. Followed that with a 9-point win at Georgia Southern (don't know anything about them) and then followed that with an absolute, 50-point annihilation of visiting Holy Cross 88-38. Duquesne began the season with an 8-point loss, again both to and at Arizona. The Dukes then followed that with a convincing 18-point home win over Wisconsin-Green Bay. They're probably going to blow-out District of Columbia tonight. I appreciate Big Zip's confidence, but I think we're going to have to be at least hitting on most cylindars to come out of this weekend w/ 2 victories. But the potential is right in front of us to have three nice wins over the SEC, Horizon & Atlantic-10, respectively.
  2. Does anyone know if we received any love from the ESPN commentators during this game? I've got it dvr'd & I'm planning on watching it sometime today.
  3. I'd rather not talk about the post Zeke era Fear not. The coaching staff is diligently recruiting a pair of big men. Hmm, interesting. Recruiting "a pair" of bigs with the hope of signing one, or both?
  4. Just wanted to give a shout-out to the 'Rowdies who did show up last night. It was awfully cold. The, no pun intended, fair-weather 'Rowdies stayed home. You guys are the real 'Rowdies! Now we need all you real 'Rowdies to pack the JAR!
  5. Simon What's-His-Name (Frenchie's color man w/ the wicked English accent) said that penalty was truly a bad call - a phantom foul - and had a handful of his soccer-savy friends from around the country (and world?) who were watching the game online text him during the game telling him that there was no foul to be called in that instance. Terrible call & really could have shifted the momentum & eventual outcome of the game. Fortunately the Zippers came right back & laid waste to the Northwestern defense as Mattocks buried a ball in the back of their net!
  6. I agree. I really like this draw. The Mustangs are only 13-6-1, though they did play a pretty tough schedule. Marshall seemed to give the Mustangs all that they could handle, tying SMU 1-1 in 2 OT's in their first meeting, and then falling to SMU 4-3 in the C-USA Tourney.
  7. Every MLS game I've watched with an Akron player in it, the announcer spends a few seconds talking about the Akron program. I've watched over 30 games where this has happend. Let's hope Zeke and Diggs make the NBA so that the same can happen for basketball. Alright, I know this is the wrong sport thread for this, BUT bobbyake has given me a hole I could drive a Mack truck through, so: the Chivas USA TV broadcasters refer to Akron as "The MLS unofficial 19th team" Nice!
  8. Did you read the article in its entirety? I didn't want to have to either subscribe or register to read the rest. Interesting nugget, McAdams, at 6-6, plays PG in high school - though the article states KD wants to move McAdams to the wing. But he can apparently handle the rock.
  9. Well done!! I guess you live at the "Portage Lake."
  10. Eh, keep in mind that LeBron said that when he was being interviewed by some talking head while on Columbus State's campus in front of, IIRC, about a thousand Columbus students - it was in some meeting hall, or something. He said it, waited for the crowd to cheer, & then laughed & wanted to move on to the next question. In reality, from the time LeBron was a high school sophomore he was NEVER, EVER even vaguely considering going to school. Anywhere. Not even UA w/ his best friends Dru, Rome & Willie and Coach D. It simply wasn't an option. He pimps Akron.
  11. check out the scathing replies to this article. There are almost 30 of them - not counting the rabbit trail concerning referring to The University of Akron as Akron U. Link to the comments. It's pretty hard to argue with any of the justified criticism. I especially liked Rob_from_Akron's cryptic, yet fitting final words: Is Rob_from_Akron also jupitertoo? No, that was me, actually! No kidding. Glad (or, sad, really) that you liked it!

  13. Wow. And all concerning our win over MSU. That win really was huge.
  14. Congratulations, Melo, Jake & Reggie on receiving full-ride scholarships to an excellent university and for the opportunity to help contribute to a sincerely up-and-coming basketball program; a program about to make noise on the national level! And congratulations KD & staff on another excellent recruiting class!!! Go Zips!!!
  15. One. Brian Wagner. And how pathetic is the current state of our program when my 2nd & 3rd favorite players on the team are our long-snapper and place-kicker, respectively?
  16. Here is a link for the ESPNU website. While I'm posting this (11/16) Caleb Porter's on the front page of the website. I saw this as I was checking out one of KD's new b-ball recruits, Reggie McAdams, who is ranked by ESPNU as the 5th best player in the state of Ohio. Ooooh, if it weren't for football...
  17. Oh, my. That is really awful news. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. McKnight, but, even from my seat in the upper GA on the other side of the arena, I could tell he was a fantastic father! He was always both present and supportive of his boys. Throughout the games I would often see them glance up to his seats in lower reserved. You could sometimes hear Mr. McKnight's shouts of encouragement over all the other ruckus in the JAR. I remember he used to occassionally make funny faces (BIIIIG smiles ) at Chris in order to help get Chris to relax and just enjoy the game. The McKnights used to have the entire team over for lasagna when they'd travel south to play OU. This will be a difficult loss for the McKnight young men. But, if they're anything like their father, and I'm sure they are, they're going to be more than just fine. Prayers.
  18. Here is an interesting article about how Denver Bronco's head coach, John Fox, has altered his offense to play to the limited strengths of Tim Tebow. Just thought it was interesting when we often gripe about iCoach stubbornly sticking w/ the Pro-set.
  19. MAC Sports will be streaming the game on Saturday @ Akron vs Duquense Live Stream 11/19 Thank you!
