You know, for all the depth we have, it's a bit ironic that we only have one true C and one true PG. We're an entirely different team when either Zeke or AA are on the bench.

+1. Though I tell myself there is probably an X's & O's reason that's above my head as to why Zeke runs out there, it, none-the-less infuriates me to see him put into a position where he is continuously exploited by the quick little guards up top. Just STAY NEAR THE PAINT, Zeke! To my simplistic way of thinking, running Zeke out beyond the 3-point line just isn't the best way to use his God-given strengths. In fact, it really puts him at a distinct disadvantage. For crying out lous, KEEP HIM DOWN LOW, KD! However, since this is so painfully obvious to me (a basketball 101 guy) I figure there just has to be a higher basketball I.Q. reason for it. If i may I would like to comment on the hi low defense Zeke Marshall faces. First I must admit that I agree that Zeke should stay in the post but this is easier said than done. Different teams and the type of offenses they run forces Zeke out and has nothing to do with KD. On pick and rolls you want to force the ball around the outside parameter as oppose to letting the guard to penetrate the defense. On a pick which is designed by opponents to bring a strong defender out (Zeke) of the block allows the guard to penetrate the paint. Problem is in ideal situations you want the big man to switch to stay in the paint but there are two problems with that: # 1 being usually a guard who is very quick and explosive and come off the pick can do major damage to the defense if he is allowed to turn the corner and penetrate the defense. And if Zeke doesn't step up then who else will be in that place at that particular time to do so? Secondly, usually the guy setting the pick is the big man played by Zeke that can fake the pick up top and break for the basket looking for a backdoor pass or alley. If it is not guarded on the side of caution the back door is opened all night long.. So now to my point; in an ideal world Zeke can stay in the paint mainly in a zoned defense but is very unlikely due to the fact the defense and offense changes on both ends almost every time down the floor. So Zeke has no other choice but to play defense as it is handled to him. Fortunately for us APB had a smaller lineup and Zeke could play more conservatively... Awesome post! Thanks for the knowledge!

This guy looks to pass the eyeball test (from his one picture here). If we don't bring in some serious JUCO DT's we're going to get absolutely obliterated straight up the middle next year. The only 2 remaining DT's on our roster are both freshmen!!! Frosh DT Dajour Morris looked good. IMHO he passes the eyeball test. James Price, however, IMHO, didn't pass the eyeball test. He just looked kinda overweight. Who knows, he might hit the weightroom hard this offseason & lose some baby fat. But none-the-less, we need some serious muscle front & center.

My grandfather was a high school football HC & used to say, "You can't plow the field without the horses."

We don't even have Can't on the schedule. I believe Can't and Akron are AT Youngstown State next season. Don't quote me on that. The way the Horizon schedules two early conference games in December have thrown a wrench into scheduling for us. I'd love to see that game in the Coveli Center. I'd really like to check the place out. Basketball blows in there. It is a beautiful arena, but they don't setup seats behind each basket so you got a giant grey floor there. Beeghly is a lot more intimate. It is very much just like the JAR or the MACC. Interesting. That's why (we speculate) UA is hesitant/unwilling to go in with the City of Akron on a multi-purpose arena.

Is AA really having surgery on his knee or will he just be "rested" after these games? I'm not certain, but pretty sure it's going to require surgery. But, I guess meniscus surgery must be rather minor, as he'll only be sidelined for a little over 2 weeks. "Minor" knee surgery?

God bless Henniger, and all, but he looks awful when out on the floor for K-ent. He doesn't fit that teams' athletic style of play at all.
-
Wow. That was painful.

Btw, shouldn't we be playing at YSU this year?

Yeah, I just read the article & it sounds like GT just reads ZNO. Couldn't he at the very least place a call to representatives for Johnson, Stoops & Winters & at least get a "no comment," comment?

Is Our Head Coach "Search" a Sham?
Blue & Gold replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
PW is a master of the spread offense & when he was UA's OC, we had literally one of the most explosive, exciting offenses in all of college football. He did that when we had the very worst football facilities in all of D-1 college football. Literally. By far. Embarrassing. I'm surprised they could even get anyone to commit to play at UA back then. Players carpooling to the grubby practice fields which were located 1/4 a mile from a crumbling RubberBowl (God rest her soul). Now we have some of the finest football facilities in the nation. Literally. And by far the best in the MAC. I'd be extremely excited to see what PW could do here now. -
Maybe this is why KD is (apparently) delaying AA's knee surgery until after these next few games? Maybe he feels we really do need AA for Pine-Bluff & YSU. It'd be pretty devestating to go 1-4 over the next few weeks.

Of the supposed "finalists"... Who's your choice
Blue & Gold replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Interesting development, If YouTube isn't sleeping, I'm hoping he was/is on the phone tonight. Maybe I missed it, what are we supposed to take from this article?? +1. I don't understand what "development" you're getting at. Interestingly, the article spells out why GP1 never thought a Pro-set offense would work at UA - and he was right about that. A spread is needed to equalize the talent. This is one reason I'm a Paul Winters supporter. He's a master at running the spread & his former UA offenses would be right at home in the wide-open PAC-12. -

Anyone See A Zips Fan on the Amazing Race Finale?
Blue & Gold replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
For anyone who has never seen the show, it is a race around the world with a bunch of stops along the way. It starts and stops in the US and this year the final leg was in Atlanta. That's where the two contestants on the left met up with the Zips fan. Yeah, you can tell I've obviously never seen the show. And Atlanta, eh? Cool. -

So, without a traditional presser, how are the crack reporters - Georgie, Porter, Rasor, Elton - supposed to put a story together sans quotes from the new HC? Weird. -
Sounds like the college equivalent of the Steelers approach in the NFL. Seems to have worked well for both Wayne State and the Steelers. I was never close to being a D-1 caliber athlete, so I have no idea, but will this scenario translate when recruiting quality D-1 players? Most of them are pretty cocky (and rightly so) and firmly believe they're going to come in & be BMOC right off the bat, right? (Just playing devil's advocate here, because I know PW already has plenty of experience in recruiting D-1 players. Also, if need be, I'm sure PW could tweek his strategy a bit.)

+1. This shot should definitely be moved to the random sighting thread. Where was the "race" taking place? It wasn't around Akron, was it?
