Great...err..Highly Controversial Column By Bob Dyer
w00t replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Bob Dyer is everything that's wrong with the Beacon Journal... small-time writers, small-time ideas, big-time hubris (they are journalists after all). Other than that I really can't add too much to what zen and GoZips said. Newspapers are a dying medium and the mid-market ones like the Beacon will be the first to go. (When this happens by the way, party at my house... free beer.) Anyone know Dyer's e-mail? I'm thinking about sending him an app for the Daily Can't Stater, I think it's better suited to his abilities as a writer and his "equality of outcomes" worldview. -
Jarvis Givens.

Wow, first Andrew Moss, now Rydell Brooks

It's pretty disappointing that individuals of such ill character are enrolled at UA at all, let alone representing us in athletic competition. At least he never actually took the court for us. -
Zeke Marshall Verbal commitment!
w00t replied to joshgozips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
The guys that have graduated in the past two years (Travis, Joyce, Middleton, Wood, Dials, and Milum) were a heck of a group of players and from all I've gathered had great character as well. Thanks to them and KD and his staff for moving Zips basketball forward, I think they laid the foundation to be able to attract players of the caliber who are signing with us now, especially the Pennsylvania guys like McNess, Sweich, and Marshall, who in the past might have landed at Pitt, PSU, or Duquesne.Congratulations Zeke, I think you're going to be a part of something special here. I hope UA provides you with a great college experience, on the court and off. -
Wow, there has never been a better time to be a fan of the Socceroos (of the UA variety, not the Aussies ). I hear next year's recruiting haul is shaping up to be as good as this one or better. Well done Coach Porter, I can't wait for August.

Why doesn't the stupid hippie just move his shop out to Summit St.? He'd do more business there anyway, and if he starts selling leather pants and Birkenstocks, he can probably recoup the two million dollars he plans to dump into upping Can't's gay population within a matter of months. What an asshat.

2008 Soccer Schedule Announced
w00t replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Not a bad schedule, but it's a bummer to see us lose the two ACC games we played last year that really helped the SOS (UNC and eventual national champion Wake Forest).Surprised to see WVU accept a return invitation to Lee Jackson after their toolbox of a coach blamed UA's "failure to have the facilities ready" and the weather for the 5-0 drubbing we gave them in the tournament a couple of years ago. After enduring a five-goal beating, he then went on to predict that fellow Big East side UConn would take us out in the next round... didn't happen. -
Which is better? Spanked in Big Dance or 1-1 in NIT?
w00t replied to K-Roo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Can't just played a bad game. UNLV would not be consistenly 13 points better than them. And to answer the question, I would rather have gotten our lunch handed to us in the NCAA Tournament than win one in the NIT. -
I'm not surprised Christian left, but I am surprised he left to coach at a school like TCU. The Mountain West does routinely get two bids to the tournament though, so I guess it is a step up conference-wise.Anyway, here's hoping this bodes poorly for the future of Can't's basketball program.

They've got one more to go... and believe me I'm pulling for them all the way!!!Can you also find the post where I told the guy he was nuts when he said Sweich would redshirt? I owe him dinner or something.
-
There's a surprise.

For crying out loud guys, this really isn't the thread to level criticism at some of the greatest players (and people) our program has ever been privileged to graduate. All four of this year's graduating seniors will be missed. Ced, Jeremiah, Nick, Quade... thanks for the ride guys, you were all a joy to watch.
-
I'm considering making the trip. How would I go about getting a ticket?
-
Tim O'Shea would like a word with you.

Can't will need to find a low post presence next year, but if they do, they'll be solid. Buffalo and BGSU return literally everyone on their rosters. Tim Pollitz is Miami's only loss. In my opinion though, next year's team to beat will be Toledo... Jerrah Young is their only grad, and if Kashif Payne returns healthy, I could see them winning the MAC.
-
This team did not underperform. They lost last year's MAC POY and just as importantly a longstanding point guard. They played an entire season battling injuries and without a true point guard and still managed to return to the MAC Finals.
-
I'm with him. Disappointing loss to be sure, but I refuse to criticize the program, the coach, or the players and still firmly believe that our basketball program is moving forward. This team will lose four quality athletes and individuals, and next year will be a rebuilding year, but I think the foundations are solid and I can't wait to see the fresh faces next year. Ced, Nick, Jeremiah, and Quade... you will be missed!!!

Whatever you do, DON'T order them through Ticketmaster. Call the U of A ticket office (330-972-6920) and avoid ungodly service charges and guarantee yourself a spot in the Akron section. You can pick them up at the JAR or they'll leave them for you at will call at the Q.

If Wood (Reitz) and Linhart (Kool) play solid defense tonight, I think Akron wins by ten.

He'd better walk the walk tonight and tomorrow night.
