  1. I have the Quackers knocking off Florida to go the Final Four. They will make short work of Charlie Coles' "snail ball".
  2. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. If that bone is thrown, take it and get a chance at some high-majors on a neutral court to start off what will be the best year in UA hoops history.
  3. So, we despise Ohio State (because we consider them our "rivals"), but we cheer for Miami? Consider me befuddled. And consider me a Ducks fan for a day.
  4. Yeah, Samarco graduated, and he knew it would be a struggle to produce double-digit wins next year.
  5. Sometimes you are responsible for things that are completely out of your control. In this case, getting the likes of Gene Keady's twinkie-eating ass to award Akron an NIT bid. It's not Boyes fault that an old boys' (hm, what an unlikely homophone) club was responsible for picking the NIT field based on "who you would least like to play against if you were the coach".
  6. Know how many hoops teams from C-USA are playing this postseason? One.
  7. That was two years ago... last year we were snubbed altogether by the soccer selection committee.
  8. I'm salivating at the prospect of a Sweich/Wood frontcourt.
  9. Most interesting article I've read all day...ParrishThe most pertinent item..."People talk about how having a high RPI can protect you, but it really only protects BCS schools. This year the top four RPIs omitted from the field were Air Force (30), Missouri State (36), Bradley (38) and Drexel (39). Non-BCS schools, every one of them. Last year the top three RPIs omitted were Missouri State (21), Hofstra (30) and Creighton (39). Non-BCS schools, every one of them. Two years ago the top three RPIs omitted were Miami of Ohio (39), Wichita State (45) and Buffalo (46). Non-BCS schools, every one of them. And if you want to call that a coincidence, I want to call you an idiot."
  10. Did someone just start a thread suggesting we do away with the football program? This has been a rough weekend to be sure, but let's not lose our minds.
  11. I'm as sick to my stomach about this loss as anyone, but let's put some things in perspective...* Let's not blame the coach. It's not even a point for debate that we are fortunate to have him here and starting threads about his "legacy" when (I hope) he's not going anywhere is ludicrous. * Let's not blame the officials for the loss. Their biggest mistake was putting time back on the clock. You don't fix one mistake by making another one. The way they handled the situation was spineless, but it was not the reason for the loss.* Let's give Cedric a break, because it wasn't his fault either. Do you honestly think the poor kid will sleep tonight? Do you honestly think we'd have gotten this far without him? He will be back next year with a vengeance.* This was the best season UA basketball has ever had. If you think you're aching from this amazingly unlikely loss as a fan, imagine it from the perspective of a player... especially the two named Romeo and Dru.* Rowdies... it's great to have you around. We can only hope that you grow in numbers for next season. If what I've heard about the "AK-Oldies" group is true, then you can count this 27-year old graduate who's been going to games since he was 12 and had the words "sit down!" yelled at him on several occasions in.* I hate to pull the "just wait 'til next year" card, but the talent well is far from dry. Three starters will be back to provide solid senior leadership. Three fresh faces will arrive, all of which are considered to be immediate contributors. And you have to imagine that every player will be driven to erase the memory of losing a chance to dance because of an off-balance, banked-in three-pointer. If we play to our potential next year, we will know that we're NCAA Tournament bound before the conference tournament even tips off.* "AntonioGates" coming on here and trashing the Zips is laughable. He must not be able to process events more than 24 hours old if he's already forgotten that the hippie commune posing as a university that he attended has now lost four games in a row to UA. Beating Can't three times in one year is a heck of an accomplishment and is the only thing that remotely dulls the pain of tonight's loss for me personally.* Finally, this season is not over. There is no foreseeable reason that we would be passed over for an NIT bid. A home game is probably not in the cards for us, but it would probably mean a lot to the most talented team in Zips history if there was a good turnout to see them play wherever they end up.Thanks so much to all the Zips, especially Romeo and Dru!!!!!!!
  12. Nobody wants to sniff a Can't player, they all smell like patchouli.
  13. Well done! We could use some more help tomorrow night though!
  14. It should be an option at ours.
  15. Sorry, I wasn't disagreeing with you on that. It's not appropriate at all, I just meant that I wasn't personally offended by it, especially as it pertains to their contempt for UA. If I had a five-year old with me at the game, then I would have been a little irked. It's also absolutely incomparable to chanting "Can't State sucks", which I find to be less than harmless... and true.
  16. I'm not really bothered by any of the Can't chants from last night personally. Is there any rivalrly where the both sides don't call the other's fans classless? Of course both sides' fans lack class... they don't particularly like each other. I utterly detest Can't State University and everything about it. From the hippies, to the Wahhabist sympathizers in the history department, to the JUCO transfers they keep bringing in for the hoops team, to their midget quarterback, to their snot-nosed student body... I can't stand them, and it goes deeper than sports. If they're chanting "**** you" to Akron, more power to them... were we to get their collective praise, adulation, or respect, I'd wonder what we were doing wrong.
  17. I never heard the "F U Akron" chant. I did hear the "LeBron's Bitch" chant directed at Rome when he was at the free throw line late in the game though.
  18. It seemed to me like on a couple of occasions they were looking to bury the "dagger shot" from behind the arc. As ill-advised as the shots may have been, I kind of liked the cajones that it took to put them up.
  19. Haha, Balki must have only heard Sir Elton's cover version.
  20. I didn't read all 11 pages of this thread (so apologies if anyone already asked), and it doesn't really matter at this point... but did anyone see replays of what looked to me like two completely bogus calls at the end of regulation? I was almost sure that Linhart didn't travel and that Can't should have had their final basket erased for goaltending. Other than that, I thought the refs did a great job. That was just one heck of a game. I was calling the Can't ticket office every day in mid-December waiting for these tickets to go on sale. Row C, Section K was the reward for my tenacity. What I didn't know was that rows A&B were the press rows on the floor, so I was in the front row directly behind the Akron bench. They really could have quit tonight when Can't took the lead with just under four minutes to go, and then they could have quit again when their point guard fouled out and they had to play an overtime in a hostile environment without him. But this is the gritty kind of win that should go a long way for their confidence. It's tough to beat a team three times in the same season, but now I think they are just simply the better team and should take it down anyway.J-Wood had the game of his life and made his free throws!!!! 17 and 15 is a monster game, it's only fitting that he made the game winning shot after the effort he put in.See everyone in Cleveland!!!!!!!!!!! I love March!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Harry Buffalo is a good one... literally 100 yards from The Q.
  22. This is exactly the reason I hate that stupid hippie school so much. I'm all for the free exchange of ideas and everything, but I'd also like to kick this guy in the junk.
  23. uakronkid, I hate RM too, try this... http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm
  24. Geez, Rybak makes his second three-pointer in 15 tries and the "See! I told you he was worth a scholarship!" posts come out of the woodwork. The fact of the matter is that the guy looks like a one-legged cat trying to bury a turd on a marble floor every time he goes into a game. The standards his biggest supporters are holding him to are laughable when you consider that during his "best game of the year" where he really "stepped it up" he turned the ball over four times... in seven minutes of action. Not to mention I'm sure every Duquesne player was thinking "I hope he's guarding me" when he checked in. They're big boys... If Rybak's confidence is affected by my posts on a messageboard, then he REALLY needs his scholarship pulled. I want to see this team win games... I'm really not all that concerned with whose delicate ego is shattered so long as they're reaching that end. I want him to succeed as much as the next guy, but I want UA to win ballgames first and foremost.
  25. No, but it's driven me to drink a few times this year when Rybak has gone into the game when we weren't up by 30.
