Yes, but it's equally as important to not end up as the number four... and we haven't secured the 3-seed by a long shot.

Missed it, what did he say?

What to Expect from the Zips This Week
w00t replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Holy div-ah!!! LOL -
I'm pretty sure Allen is entering his junior year.
-
Dare I ask if anyone knows whether these two have any chance of seeing action next year?
-
For the record, I don't think this will be anywhere near a 20-point game.

* The MAC and the Colonial are comparable conferences. I'll leave it to everyone else to demonstrate what significance that fact has, if any. (OMG Ira Newble totally pwn3z Speedy Claxton, our conference is teh ossum and yours suxxorrrrr!!!@!!11).* Nobody cares about any conference's past performance. GMU's Final Four and Can't State's Elite 8 will not get either of them into the tournament this year. * I doubt that Grant is breaking the heart of Billy Donovan, Leonard Hamilton, or even Frank Haith with this supposedly glorious Florida recruting haul. * Akron recruited last year's Ohio POY... so what? The best player in VA is Ed Davis (if you don't count Brandon Jennings who transferred in to Oak Hill Academy), and I hate to break District's heart, but he's going to North Carolina next year, not VCU. Do the Oak Hill guys count as Virginia players? Because none of them are going to VCU either. Burgess (the guy District is drooling over) may be a good player, but he would be lucky to crack a list of Virginia's top ten high schoolers this year, and to say he's the best is absurd. (However, is he more highly regarded than Cventinovic? Absolutely.)* District's main point, which I think was lost on many people before a glorified game of "My Dad Is Bigger Than Your Dad" began, is that VCU got unlucky with their BracketBuster draw. He's absolutely right. The point of the BracketBuster is (supposedly) to help the mid-majors bolster their tournament resumes... how could VCU possibly benefit from playing a road game against a team that's 55-2 at home over the last three years and has a lower RPI than they do when they're teetering on the brink of an at-large bid? Nothing to gain, everything to lose. Not that VCU is alone, the BracketBuster is one of the most witless contrivances I've ever seen. A REAL BracketBuster would be if the likes of Duke, UNC, Arizona, UCLA, Kansas, and Michigan St. were forced to go out and play the top mid-majors ON THE ROAD. As it stands, ESPN cooked up this scheme to have the top mid-majors beat up on each other for a weekend every February. Pfft, thanks a lot.

Oops, I thought Rivals and Scout both had him listed as uncommited. Rivals has him as a verbal, Scout lists him as undecided. Scout (as of 1/17 anyway) indicated that we are still in the lead for Marquis Avery though.I'm still nervous anyway... I'm a skeptic about any of our football recruits (esp. the really good ones) until I've seen them on the field when the ball is snapped.

So is Bowser on board or no? It would appear not at this point.
-
The only reason the BB matchup even matters to the Zips at this point is for TV exposure. The real significance of this game went out the door when they lost to the likes of Central Michigan (RPI 176) and Portland St. (RPI 158).

Kashif Payne is not playing for Toledo this year for undisclosed reasons.
-
But, but... I thought you were an Akron student blessed with extraordinary skills of objective observation? No, you're just another stupid hippie and the product of a coat hanger abortion gone awry... get lost.
-
Akronzip12345 (a handful of posts on this board)... flushgrad03 (803 posts on Hippie U board)... Douchebag.
-
That doesn't even make sense. You definitely go to Can't... no Akron student is capable of presenting such a poor analogy.

What a lousy game...1 - Ham 'n' cheese - DEFINITELY t'd up before Milum. I understand standing up for your teammates Quade, but when some mouth-breathing panhead (read: Quaintance) shoves your point guard in the face after a foul (I had an excellent view of this by the way) and puts your team in a position to tie the game up, I think it would be better to suck it up and let your game do the talking at the other end instead of shoving him back. As was the case several times last night, we wasted a K.e.n.t miscue that could have put us back in business. I'd never known HQ to be that much of an asshat, but I'm sure those post-game antics will not be forgotten by the Zips (or the Rowdies I hope).2 - Steve McNees... What the heck? 8 turnovers. 8. By one guy. It gets worse... he only played 16 minutes. We made our first half run when he was out of the game. We gave everything back in the second half when he was back in it, throwing lob passes to the K.e.n.t defense. KD can't be that inobservant... how was he not riding pine the rest of the way after number four or five? Good on him for his performance shooting the ball against the Deadhawks, but let's hope last night was the worst game he'll ever play. 3 - Brett McKnight - What an animal... they don't have anymore PT for this guy?4 - Jim Christian - A seemingly decent guy. I thought it was just Browns fans that toss stuff on the playing surface when they get honked off. At least Browns fans are always drunk when they pull that kind of nonsesnse, what's the K.e.n.t student section's excuse?5 - Nick Dials - One of the best performances he's ever turned in, and on a tough stage. 22 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and six-of-six at the line. If everyone else follows the examples of toughness, confidence, and execution that he set last night, then an NCAA bid is in our future.6 - Cedrick Middleton - Is he OK? Just doesn't seem like himself this year.7 - The refs - They were terrible, but neither team was any better off for it. Whoever said to blame our 23 turnovers instead of the refs for last night was absolutely right. One thing I don't understand though... foul on McNees and a double-technical at the end of the game. How does K.e.n.t get the ensuing ball out of bounds? I would have thought that both sets of technical foul shots would have been taken, followed by HQ taking his shots as usual for the initial foul. Instead all six were taken with no one in the blocks and then the ball was awarded out of bounds.8 - "Dirty" cheers and chants - It's a college basketball game, not a nursery. Who cares? Blah Blah Blah, there's kids there... they've never heard those words before? If I hear the word "classless" used to describe any player, coach, or student body one more time, I'm going to pull my hair out. Start singing CSNY's "Ohio" en masse in our house next time around, no cheer K.e.n.t has could ever top that.9 - Akronzip12345 - Take your "objectivity" and stick it in your earhole... If you really do go to Akron, they ought to kick you out.10 - March 6th - It had better be so loud at the JAR that I can't even hear myself think when these two teams meet again.K.e.n.t State still sucks... and I have a feeling that next time around we won't give the ball away 23 times when we play them.

I'll call the Zips in a close one ... 71-68.See you at the MACC!!!! :screwks: :screwks: :screwks:

If it holds that both of them can play four years, then it presents a good problem for KD to have in that he'll only lose one player after the 08-09 season... 2008-09Seniors - LinhartJuniors - C. McKnight, Conyers, BrooksSophomores - McNees, Roberts, B.McKnight, BardoFreshmen - Steward, Sweich, Parish, McClanahan, Hitchens, Sullivan, CventinovicThat's a lot of talent. A few redshirts are probably in order next year...
-
Anyone know for sure what year of eligibility Jimmy Conyers and Darryl Roberts will be in next year?

Because I'm too Lazy to Start One This Year

Identical twins, seriously. -
Clicky for Bubble WatchChances are slim to none that we make the NCAA Tournament without three wins at The Q, but the headline on the first Bubble Watch ("More At-Large Spots Available Than Deserving Teams?) at least leaves the possibility open...

I got it, I just thought it was funny that it was posted so soon after we'd just gotten done trashing a decent opponent. You and me both Cap'n. Great coach, good mix of senior leadership and younger talent, depth, heart, a chip on their shoulder from last year's unfortunate end... if these guys don't punch a ticket to the big dance this year I will be pretty bummed to say the least.

Hate to say it, but student support is atrocious, especially considering how well the team is doing and the fact that they never lose at home. Tens of thousands of UA students and unless it's a "big" game the 300 seat student sections don't fill up.
