  1. Ahhsum post Wadszip. Didn't you mean to say restart the wrestling program? Maybe after a 40 year break, we could do better this time.
  2. It's OK Capt. I'm thinking most of us remember that the Grate one thought Purdue couldn't be a flagship school because it didn't have the State name in its title. I think he may have been playing dumb just to wreak your dig. In this case, however, I agree with the Grate one; adding UMass (or any other school) to the conference for football only is the wrong way to go. I didn't mind adding Temple for football only because it was needed to save their program and they were one of a very few D1 schools who agreed to play at our place when we first went D1. That debt has now been paid and it would cause me no pain to see them move on, and I would not welcome them back in for football only again. My nominations for best (doable) addition to the conference in all sports would be Western KY and N. Iowa, but if we are to limit additions to "Flagship" schools, any with the name Dakota in their title.
  3. The only way that will ever happen is if I say it can't possibly happen. There is no way Butler elects to leave the Horizon League because they have an excellent shot at automatic NCAA tourney bid each year as the winner of the League tournament. Odds of an automatic bid go down with a move to the A10.
  4. You don't have to argue for a correlation; every variable is correlated with every other variable although sometimes the correlation is weak or negative. I suggest running a Granger Causality test once you have the data set.
  5. Yes. In the mean time I figured out it was just gas. I'm much better now. Nice win, but it sure seemed tougher than it should have been. Also, can't believe how easily Ohio handled Buffalo at home!
  6. I just got a weird feeling that Egner might get into the game tonight. Could just be gas however.
  7. half time and half the way to 14.
  8. First, I find it difficult to believe this will happen as fast as is being rumored. That said, bailing on the Conference 6 months prior to the start of fball season is worth at least $10 mill even to a conference as bad as the MAC. I'll bet the MAC settles for $3 mill payable in installments over 3 years.
  9. Easy money - go with the home team.
  10. Let me ad some perspective not fully reflected in the numbers you have gathered. Our recent poor performance in football has little to do with the overwhelming common belief around the conference that Akron is "dead weight" in the MAC. Most of those folks have thought that since the day we entered the the conference. It is only recently that we have lived down to their expectations in football. For the longest time we were in Youngstown State's current position; we were underfunded (still aren't great in that category), competing in a lower division that the MAC, and wondering why they wouldn't let us in. It must really irk some of the other MAC programs that the Zips are actually competitive in a few sports. For a lot of them we are still the undeserving new kid on the block.
  11. I think I still have that suit, but my pom pom has seen better days.
  12. I'll split the difference and go with the Zips by 14.
  13. That is an excellent idea. Unfortunately, a good deal of the amounts shown are restricted gifts. For example, of the $35.8 million donated to Ke.nt St.ate, the donors of $35 million specified that the money was to be used for research into improved bong design and more efficient tie dye techniques.
  14. There is only one solution to this problem. How real men play football
  15. I must not have looked around enough; I didn't see shirts on empty seats. There is no way there were 7,000 in the arena today, but it is a really nice venue. I do remember wondering if it looked as empty on TV as it did in person.
  16. There is a two part answer to your question. First, a series of tragic bus accidents resulting in the untimely death of the President of each and every Big East school. Second, replacing each of them with a UofA grad.
  17. Cool. I did try to get a couple of tiles from the pool in Memorial Hall, but by the time I asked, according to the AD, the pool was covered with lots of dirt. I do, however, have in my office a hunk of the first artificial surface ever put down at the Rubber Bowl.
  18. I think s/he may, and several of them may be new to the Zips athletic department.
  19. If you guys keep talking about it, he's going to figure out how to get down there. Now ssshhhhhhhhh.
  20. I think my winking smiley face says it all. I can't tell whether you really can't tell if I am agreeing with his post (since you say that you disagree with much of his post too) or just being a fully-inflated douchebag. massive attendance stats available at: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_basketball...attend/2011.pdf
  21. Great post. You won't believe what those rascally folks at the NCAA are doing now. They are releasing figures that show D1 basketball is increasing in popularity, and those jerks at ESPN were dumb enough to print it. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6432396 A suggestion to increase scoring and get college basketball out of decline; leave the three point line alone and lower the baskets to 9 feet.
  22. I fixed it for you.
  23. Three things: 1. Having an arena that will accommodate hockey does not mean that seating close to the basketball floor is not possible. 2. Interesting that an on campus football stadium is better than one off campus, but an off campus basketball arena would be better than one on campus. 3. If an important factor in demonstrating a need for a new arena includes consistent sellout crowds, it may be a couple more decades before we can demonstrate a need.
  24. "No real opinion - 3 (those were the "I remember getting into the Rubber Bowl with a can of creamed corn" or "I feel sorry for Akron" comments)" I rest my case.
  25. I don't know about it being the lock of all locks. What about Loyola Marymount getting points against Saint Mary's. Upset, smupset, that was was easy money.
