They are likely using Youngstown's Facilities because they are owned by Denise DeBartolo York and John York, The DeBartolos are from that area.Alex is a great kid and helping out with my Fighting Irish... DeBartlo's are big in Youngstown, as is noted in the previous post. If they aren't using the stadium, they will be using the WATTS which is nearing completion, 98% complete. Worth noting the DeBartolo's joined Jim Tressel and Anthony Cafaro in donating to the $12 million facility: Looking at that great structure makes me wonder ................. exactly where in its concrete foundation are Jimmy Hoffa's body parts encased?

Is that the new math? No

You can't be serious!!!!That's like sticking your foot in your mouth and then shooting yourself in the foot.I refuse to believe what you have reported is true and I refuse to check it out for myself because if I did and it turns out to be true I might say something mean.Your post did give me a good idea for renaming the stadium to EPT. Then when people ask, "where is the game being played" one can correctly respond "inEPT."

Is the VMI game the last straw for Ianello?
Zipmeister replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips Football
I wonder why Cincinnati didn't take it easy on Austin Peay, beating them up by a score of 72-10, and continuing to pour it on in the 4th quarter by outscoring them 21-7 in the final 15 minutes?Because with Austin Peay they had a normal week of rest before playing their next game at Tennessee. But they only get four days of rest after playing Akron before they face NC State on Thursday.I really like this post too. You are red hot today. -

They didn't. Pouring it on would involve keeping the first string in the game. You can't tell your 3rd and 4th stringers to go out and lay down. They want to show what they can do. If AP didn't have the players to stop Cincy's subs then to some it might look like the Bearcats were pouring it on. -

Time to shut down Football -- experiment over?
Zipmeister replied to K-Roo's topic in Akron Zips Football
The city doesn't have the financial ability to buy the stadium. Not even close. We bought the Rubber Bowl from the city for $1. I'm sure we could work out some kind of deal with them. The price could be pretty cheap if we maintain rights to use it for events. Now this post is a top candidate for the Zach post of the month award. -

This post may be good enough for the Zach post of the week award, but it's not even close for the Zach post of the year award. -

They won't care when it comes to athletics. Again, NC State, Illinois, Clemson, Iowa, Michigan State, Maryland (WVU and Maryland played yesterday and nobody seemed to care about schooling)...I could go on. I think it would be a shame if WVU was left out of the mega conferences.they won't be left out. they'll join the SEC, whose academic standards aren't very high. in fact, it sounds as if WVU submitted their papers to the SEC today, per sources in Pittsburgh. Now that would make some sense. -

We are talking about college athletics, not calculus bees. WVU is good enough for the Big Ten.Interested in a small wager? I'll bet on WVU never gets an invite to the big ten because the presidents of the member schools don't want to lower their academic standards (even though basket weaving for jocks classes at WVU are first rate). -

I really don't care what these silly little reports say. There is an old saying, "There are lies, damn lies and statistics". They are good enough for the Big Ten. I didn't know the Exercise Science degrees Big Ten players were getting are that hard to get. While there are a plethora of statistics that would demonstrate that WVU is an academic notch or two below any school in the big ten, the information to which I referred you were ratings rather than statistics. I can't find any institutional quality ratings or statistics based on the rigor of courses taken by the schools football players. My thoughts are that with few exceptions such a comparison would be uniformly disheartening. Bottom line is while WVU would be competitive in the big ten in a few sports, they don't cut the mustard academically. You can want it to be one way, but it's the other. -

Outside of Northwestern, I didn't know the Big Ten schools were Ivy Leaguelike. I don't know how the schools rank, but WVU lives in the same neighborhood as the rest of the Big Ten with the exception of Northwestern. Pitt ranks right up there with Northwestern. If by the "same neighborhood" you mean they live in the cart barn just out of sight of the expensive homes surrounding the country club, I agree with you 100%.Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, MSU, OSU, Minnesota and WVU can easily be said to have the same level of schooling. West Virginia is easy to make fun of, but we aren't talking Marshall.I never said the Mountaineers didn't wear shoes to class. They just don't have the academic stature of any school in the Big Ten (and several MAC schools). As a first step to becoming better informed study the material in the following link.http://tfpa.cafcs.org/ViewAllInstitutions.aspx -
Zipmeister, I think you're losing it. Your scrotum comment was in another thread.No. I made that comment in the thread where everyone is calling for the head of icoach.......oh wait...my bad........they are doing that in every thread.

I sense that some of you are now on the fence concerning the hiring of icoach.

Things could be worse. The team has not yet been required to play with ten pound lead weights tied to each team member's scrotum (it just looks like it). -

Paul Winters brings stability and wins to Wayne State

How to turn last season into a winning one? Have Rod Beard write about it."The then-Tartars posted three winning seasons during the '80s and two during the '90s, including an 0-11 mark in 1999" -
Tressel is an active coach?Nope. Yet he still has more than any active coach.fixed it for you.

Despite some posters claims that it is next to impossible to fudge paid attendance numbers, let me suggest that if the OC had as much imagination as does the person in charge of compiling attendance numbers for football home games, the Zips would have scored over 20 points in each of the first two games this year.

Didn't we already sell out once to gain publicity by hiring a "name" coach? How did that work out?
-
I was certainly not hoping this day wouldn't happen. I have been on pins and needles waiting to learn the grate one's belated prediction.Haven't heard from dreal yet!! Bet he's predicting only 9 wins at this point.

I agree. The team is better than last year. The question is, will the wins improve? It is possible to improve and still only win one game. I don't look at as we won three in lieu of one so we are better. I like to look at things in a range. 0-4 wins is a disaster. 5-7 wins is average in the MAC. 8+ wins in the MAC is a really good year. We may still be in the low range at the end of the season. If we win three this year and four next year, are we getting better or are we still a terrible program?Again, I don't want to speculate until Sunday. Let's see what happens and then we will have a better indication as to where the program is heading this season. As the blind man walked into the blast furnace, he said "feels like it's going to be sunny today."
