  1. Well,FIU is way too athletic for Akron to handle. Too much speed and too much strength. Unless they come up with some injuries, its going to be a sad homecoming. When they spread the defense out they force you to try to catch them. Receivers have some size. Defense isn't great but its fast.Hixon should be fun to watch in person.
  2. I don't think so. But I think it does tell us that when you are one of the worst teams in the MAC, a good team in the Sun Belt is likely going to be a very tough matchup for you. I'm sure I am not the only Zips fan who may have looked at this game as one of the more winnable games on our schedule this year. Ouch. When it first showed up on the schedule years ago I was thinking the same way. After each team's performance last year, not so much.
  3. Anybody watching FIU destroy Louisville on ESPN right now should be getting a real uneasy feeling about our upcoming contest with the FIUers.
  4. I always thought Lewis shot himself in the head....Great BookAkron connection....President Garfield was once President of Hiram College.Yes, and he later became a cartoon cat, but we are straying from the thread topic and this irritates some posters.
  5. This looks like a pretty challenging schedule to me. Outside of the major programs, there is YSU so the fans will have fun. CSU is a good program and it should be a fun game to attend. Detroit has history as a good program. We have MTSU for a trip down memory lane in Tennessee. We all know what VCU can do. WVU is a good program....too bad it is on a weeknight so not many will get to see the Zips play in a really good college arena. Three road games in a row to start January will provide a good challenge as well."Challenging" is the word I would use to describe this schedule. Some say it isn't any good because of Hiram and JC...everyone plays those types of cupcakes and two games don't make an entire schedule weak.I wasn't speaking so much to the overall schedule (which looks fine and actually stronger than you've had in a while), as much as I was referring to scheduling non D1's in the regular season. That is not something everyone does. D1 transitional teams do that and weaker D1 squads, of which the Zips are neither. I'm sure Dambrot could have gotten a sub 300+ RPI squad that the Zips could beat on just as easily. It's one thing to want national recognition and respect for your achievements, but IMO you set yourself up to be disrespected when you play squads like that. Your home slate stinks...but there are some very good road games on the slate and an opportunity to build a decent resume should you win them.Marian?? http://www.butlersports.com/sports/m-baskbl/2010-11/scheduleI would prefer we play cupcakes like Gonzaga does to get into rythem http://www.gozags.com/SportSelect.dbml?SPS...p;Q_SEASON=2010 Most good teams play cupcakes to get the rhythm going, lose the jitters of first game and to correct flaws without jeopardizing the season. I think KD likes to schedule local teams because it is good for their program and good for us. He is from the area and is big on loyalty....I can't find fault with his approach. So...we schedule a lower level local team every year. It does not affect our RPI so who cares.Who's better -- Lewis and Clark, or Hiram? Personally I find that a tough call. Hiram is a pro, but there are two of the other guys and they are both a lot younger than Hiram. I have included links to info on all three to help others reach there own answer to your question.http://collegebasketball.rivals.com/bviewp...sp?Player=76609http://newsandtribune.com/clarksports/x947...ong-IUS-signeeshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiram_Fuller
  6. That was the point...it's not on their schedule because, for them, it's an exhibition. It's on the Zips' schedule because it's real. (This is the same situation as the Millikin game last season.)Oh, I get it now, teams that aren't on your schedule are exhibition games. Does that mean Hiram also has exhibition games with KY, UCLA, and tOSU?
  7. Earlier someone posted that Hiram was showing the Akron game as an exhibition (while we are showing it as a regular game). I wonder if we could do this for football games; hey our game against OSU was just an exhibition game. Now Hiram isn't showing the Akron game on their schedule AT ALL!http://www.hiram.edu/athletics/menssports/...ewschedule.html
  8. That's blazing fast enough for me.No Heisman's just yet for the kid with 13 carries for 26 yards. He is, however, overqualified to win a Nobel Peace Prize.
  9. I do not. However, I commend Schmitty for keeping Temple sports fans abreast of this important road project.http://www.state.nj.us/transportation/comm.../roads/route52/
  10. The coaches who preceded Saban and Meyer must have done a wonderful job of stocking their rosters with great players so that Nick and Urban could be so successful right out of the gate.
  11. It should really help our RPI?I heard KD wanted to beat them 3 times in their place in a single season, but Senderoff would only agree to two.If I were him I would only agree to two too.
  12. The back to back games at Can't State is unfortunate, but offsetting this is the fact that the opening round game of the MAC tourney as well as the Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Champiolnship game are all shown (in bold) as home games. There is a typo, however, indicating these home games will be played in Cleveland.
  13. What a sad state of affairs we have when the discussion boils down to how badly we are going to be beaten. But I can play. Do you think the point spread on this loss will be bigger than or less than the point spread on our average loss this year?
  14. There was a search committee. They twice recommended that we hire Luke Fickell out of a pool of some great candidates. And twice, Wistrcill overruled them to bring in a coach that wasn't recommended by anyone and was only approached by one other school who was more desperate than we were. Ouch! Called out by Zach!
  15. All this debate over the effect of the beating absorbed by our beloved Zips on recruiting and the fan base is discouraging in and of itself because you are are all overlooking the more important issue; how will the outcome of this "game" influence our admission into the Big East Conference?
  16. I don't think we can judge the Zips till after the EMU game. After that game one of the teams will know how they stack up against the worst team in the MAC.
  17. True, you look at what basketball, soccer, and even track and field has accomplished and then your most visible team goes out there every week and just humiliates the University. ICoach takes a lot of heat, but TW is the guy who needs to be held accountable for this mess. This was his most important hire, and he obviously did not do his homework. On a positive note, we are probably saving a small fortune by not purchasing clipboards.
  18. I apologize to bowling pins throughout the world.
  19. We wouldn't fire him after one game, we would be firing him after thirteen games, and in most of those he gave us a worse chance to win than if he were replaced by a turnip. Perhaps, but if you replaced him with a bowling pin the coaching outfit would fit better than they would on a turnip.
  20. What Zach lacks in facts is offset by his high level of enthusiasm. Sure Zach is wrong about most stuff, but he is the ultraviolet light that keeps several forms of mold alive and well on our board.
  21. He doesn't bite the heads off of baby chickens.... Well no, not baby ones.
  22. I was disappointed that the article didn't include at least one paragraph listing other "successful" people shaped like bowling pins.
  23. "Accorsi recommended a book, The First Season, about hall of famer Vince Lombardi’s debut with the Green Bay Packers in 1959. Ianello devoured it. Lombardi started off 3-0, lost five consecutive games, then won the last four." I wonder if Lombardi ever tried the "kick off twice" strategy during his first year?
  24. Nothing like being 33.5 point dogs to get the juices flowing.
  25. R U ready for sum Football?
