  1. Speaking of spotting the Tonganator on the sideline - what was he doing? I notice he is not on the roster. Will be play more downs than Bain next Fall or will they tie for snaps played in 2010?
  2. It's certainly not the Amish. Don't get me started on the Amish again. Them nasty no good for nothing low accounts and their dictatorial "limit of two per household" Heatalator policy. I don't care if the cabinets are free - it's a conspiracy. Oh, and put me down for a yes vote on the Obama health care plan. I'm already paying for about a hundred other people's mortgages. I still have money left so I might as well pay for their medical expenses too.
  3. Sometimes when a person is wrong, they should just admit they are wrong and just move on. Digging the hole deeper is not the best thing to do. I guess I don't know how to respond. Your years of trolling exp are showing their worth. By not addressing the point I made, and progressing right to a disparaging remark, you are successfully creating an illusion of authority. Good show. Any QBs or Coaches in here know what I am describing? Taking snaps over center makes it easier to decipher the defense. I was pretty sure that was common knowledge among the football proletariat. All 6' of Drew Brees knows what I am talking about. Actually I believe the term is "under" center not "over." Otherwise, you are absolutely correct. There is no way a QB can read the defense as well from 6 or more feet behind the line compared to being right up behind the center unless the guy has like Superman vision. From the longer distance a 300 pound lineman looks to be the size of an ant, and forget about being able to spot them dinky linebackers and defensive backs.
  4. Try to look at it philosophically....the day you are conceived is the day you start to die. Buildings are the same. The day they are finished is the day they start to die. Think of the replacement of the concrete as a sixth toe. It does happen, but can easily be fixed the first couple days after birth. UofA is just removing a sixth toe. Oh it's "extra" concrete that is falling off. Thinking of it philosophically, I was thinking it was more like an ear fell off and we need to fix it so people won't stare at us cause we look like a freak. Thanks for splaining that to me Ricky.
  5. That's what I thought. As bad as PN looked at times, and there still was no time for MR to get in??? This is incomprehensible. They have the store on the SW corner, and a stand in the west wing, and they're selling crap OUT OF A TRAILER??? They have garbage bags over the windows of the store??? And they only had a handful of items in the trailer. I know they have a VERY limited number of items to sell anyway, but for crying out loud I've seen Division 3 schools that had a bigger inventory and a decent place to buy it. They leave so much money on the table it's incomprehensible. It was 40' yesterday, think of the merchandise they could have sold, if they had it. What a joke. My wife went to Akron 4 years, I've gone three, my oldest son is finishing up his first year. We've been to football games, soccer games, basketball games, baseball games. And still my 16 year old athlete son couldn't believe it yesterday when I said Akron was Division I. Other than being Big 10 fodder every year in football, how would he know? Someone needs to wake up. Sorry, just felt like giving the dead horse a couple more licks yesterday. Your powers of perception are very limited compared to several others on this board. Just ask them, they will tell you that the stadium was 100% complete before the first game last year.
  6. Pure speculation, but maybe Darryl Roberts gives up his scholarship? Pure speculation, but maybe Darryl Roberts gives up his scholarship, wins the Nobel Prize in Economics and we sign the under the radar monster wingspan man. Darryl Robers winning the Nobel Prize eh? More deserving than someone else i can think of I hear that person is going to win the Heisman Trophy this year based off of him attending a football game. Strange you should mention that because I met and talked with Merton Miller back in the 80s and he was a HUGE college football fan. He showed me his list of speaking engagements and they were all scheduled so that he could conveniently attend big time games.
  7. If you go back and read some of my posts from when the stadium was built, I predicted this would happen rapidly. The problem is they installed the concrete during the winter, which is the worst time possible to pour concrete. If I remember right, it was extemely cold when they poured it a couple of winters ago. Some cracking should be expected during the first year as the structure settles, but large scale replacement should not be required. I'm sure the subcontractor who installed the concrete has a trail of letters they wrote about pouring concrete in the winter protecting them from lawsuits. The pressure to get this job done on time was pretty big. Contractors know risk and when a problem will happen so they protect themselves. Contracting is actually a form of legalized gambling. You gamble on material costs, labor, weather, etc. There are three ways to get a construction project: good, fast and cheap. What most people don't understand is you can only get two of them. The stadium was finished fast and cheap ($64 million really isn't that much). Because of that, some problems should have been expected. There are probably more problems out there waiting to happen, but drywall covers up a lot of potential problems until they show themselves and it is too late. In gerneral, the stadium is probably an extremely safe place, there were just some things that had to be rushed and now they have to fix those things. It should have been expected. It is disheartening to know that the project has started to disintegrate before completion. Looking at the bright side, maybe tickets in the effected areas can be sold at a premium with the claim that the ticket holder will be seated in the Rubber Bowl Commemorative area.

Pure speculation, but maybe Darryl Roberts gives up his scholarship, wins the Nobel Prize in Economics and we sign the under the radar monster wingspan man. Darryl Robers winning the Nobel Prize eh? More deserving than someone else i can think of If you are implying that Merton Miller did not deserve to win the Nobel Prize in Economics my friend, you are sadly mistaken.

  10. I am gonna believe whatever you say cause the last guy to join the nation just to tell us about a GREAT recruit with monster hands has proved to be incredibly accurate.
  11. Anybody with monster hands play in the scrimmage?
  12. I don't recall the exact final "score", but the defense won by quite a bit. It left me wondering: Is our defense that much improved? Or, is our offense that bad? I saw a few good throws and catches, and an outstanding long run by Alex Allen in which he made a few cuts, and broke free down the sideline. Other than that, I thought I saw way too much ineffective run blocking and way too many dropped passes and throws that could not have been caught if our receivers were 12' tall. We have a lot of work to do. I knew we should be recruiting taller players. Speaking of quarterbacks. Any update on the rumored Jacquemain petition for an extra year of eligibility? Now that would be a steal.
  13. Nobody else on this board has your insight on this matter j-r. You are correct. No matter what the sport, no matter what the school, the primary criteria most ADs use when deciding whether to hire a new coach is "will they have to move?"
  14. Its a coin flip between the MEAC and SWAC.
  15. Those of us living out of the Akron area need an update on this issue. Did the AC really came on on the 15th?
  16. Still just AWFUL advertising for it. What does the marketing department do all day?! Any spring game is about the most pointless thing a fan could go to. It's like going to watch a practice and the marketing department should not advertise boring events. Anyone who has been to a college football practice would see how boring they actually are. If 318 people go to the spring game, then there are 318 people with nothing better to do on a Saturday. Wake me when the real games start. Maybe ANY spring game in the MAC is pointless, but not for BCS schools. There its a way to raise a little petty cash ($100+K) minimum. That covers a whole seasons worth of athletic tape. And its a way some fans who can't get into a real game can get some semblance of a game day experience.
  17. I'm counting on every team we play to being worse than they were last year, and us going 6 and 6.
  18. did they sign him or is he going to be a walk on. seems very small for that position, and his speed isnt very good either. His 40, broad jump, short shuttle, and 3 cone are all awful. And he has no size whatsoever. Reminds me of a great movie quote... "You're 5 foot nothin', 100 and nothin', and you have barely a speck of athletic ability. And you hung in there with the best college football players in the land for 2 years. And you're gonna walk outta here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame. In this life, you don't have to prove nothin' to nobody but yourself. And after what you've gone through, if you haven't done that by now, it ain't gonna never happen. Now go on back." Let's hope this guy is just a natural football player who had some bad combines. Or let's hope he busts his balls and provides a great look on the scout team for the next 5 years. That looks to be his role. I bet he has a great personality. I look forward to the positive effects on the team his young-man-snarl will bring. GO ZIPS! This is the look one gives when told "your 40 time makes you the 5th fastest girl on our tennis team."
  19. Ok, how about the men's soccer athletes. They don't all get full rides and they're a national contender in the most popular sport in the world. That's more than just running on a treadmill. 90% of all male soccer players are just jockeys who can't ride horses.
  20. Either you think this team has a lot of talent, or Zipmeister is having a seizure right about now. I don't want any part of this. I was actually dumbfounded. I believe his post should have stopped with "i still don't think."
  21. Penis envy? I love penis! It's more of a massive eye roll that you guys pity the poor football player who actually has to pay tuition AND cover his own living expenses. I mean, god forbid they don't get everything handed to them. Because of Title IX the other male teams get less scholarship money than even their female counter parts. Many of the non-football male athletes have to do the same. So why don't you guys pity the track athletes too? And don't give me that crap about football being the biggest money maker, cause it's also the program that is the furthest in the red. I have to go with the chick on this one. I make fun of the gun shooting team a lot and it's not because I have vagina envy. I love vagina. Its more a massive eye roll that some folks actually think gun shooting is a sport.
  22. How about "The Artist formerly known as Prince"?
  23. In response to the Capt's original questions: How close are we to Butler? You know when you look the wrong way though a pair of binoculars how far away things look? That's how close we are to Butler. How far away are we from Butler? If you think of DI basketball talent/performance on a circular continuum, we are almost right next to them.
  24. I got razzed by a Mount Union grad a few years ago because she said their football team scrimmaged ours and they beat us by a decent margin. I find that HIGHLY unlikely. I have watched both schools play and Akron would absolutely murder Mount Union by as many as they wanted to. the key word in your post is SHE . True. I dont remember if she was a trainer or not, but she was somehow a part of the team. I remember her. She was a left tackle. That was one sorry day for UofA athletics. They kicked our butts good.
  25. No mention of monster hands on defense. What a shock!
