Big East Mens Soccer 2023
Zip_ME87 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Got it. https://www.bigeast.com/news/2023/9/14/mens-soccer-besoccer-league-play-jumpstarts-friday-afternoon.aspx If you happen to come across the Big East Men's Soccer tie-breakers at some point, please post. Thanks again. -
Calm down please. I wasn't accusing you of anything. I was simply stating that I didn't want to continue that debate in the Women's Soccer thread.

Thank you. Could you post the url where you found that? I was looking at the Big East site / men's soccer but didn't find that description. Also, did you see any description of the tie-breakers? Thanks again. -
Thank you for bringing this thread back to the Women's Soccer discussion! 👍

Sorry you can't be there. (I know that feeling for the next game. Ugh) I can't answer "in any sport", but looking at the Zips Men's Soccer Media Guide, it looks like the last non-MAC conference win for Zips Men's Soccer was 10/27/1991 4-1 win at Western Illinois in the Mid-Continent Conference under Coach Steve Parker.

Whatever...I brought the discussion from the off track Womens Soccer thread here where it's at least in a Men's Soccer discussion. LOL
-
The expectations being discussed are not about 6 games and where we stand this season. Go back and look at the discussion. It's about the portfolio of work since 2018. Expecting to win an NCAA tournament match over the past several seasons is not asking too much of a program, including current coaching staff, that has high expectations.

As I put in the title of this thread ... fwiw ... for what it's worth. Polls are about as meaningful as participation trophies. RPI is more relevant. Honestly, I don't understand your "beef" with Zips Men's Soccer fans expectations being so high. I remember when our head coach would apologize to fans for "poor performance". I thought it was strange at first but then realized that he wanted our expectations to be that high.

Big East Conference RPI rank is sitting at 9 out of 23 as of 9/12/23 at 7:56 (am) PT. https://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/Conference RPI Rank

Big East Mens Soccer 2023

With the Zips' first Big East Conference game Friday, I thought I'd post what I understand about the 2023 Big East Men's Soccer Tournament https://www.bigeast.com/sports/2023/7/26/2023-24_Championship_Page.aspx My understanding from what I've read is that 8 of the 12 teams make the 2023 tournament. Is that 4 from each division or the top 8 regardless of division? The first round games are played at campus sites [Saturday, Nov 4] The semifinal and final are played at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds Maryland [Thursday Nov 9th and Sunday Nov 12th, respectively] -
Even without Messi (CONMEBOL WC Qualifying with Argentina), Benja Cremaschi (USMNT friendlies), and others during this "International break", Miami is still fun to watch these days...DeAndre Yedlin with a sweet assist...

Game 5 - Long Island University Sharks

Happy to get the W's in these last 2 game. LIU is a better team than USI, and our Zips showed much improved performance in this match v that on the past Monday. We still need better. Less arrogance and more confidence, composure, concentration, and complete game mentality. Great seeing Josh Hallenberger back in action. I hope he is good for more minutes. I also hope Dyson will be available v FIU. IMO, more substitutions are going to be needed than we've seen recently when playing games every 3 to 4 days. -
Sept. 4 - Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles

Jared has done well since becoming head coach...3 College Cup appearances...including one title game appearance, but something has been off since the 2018 season. There seem to be more top notch players that choose not to go the college route these days, but every D1 school has to deal with that...shouldn't be an excuse. I like our players and believe we have plenty of depth. I sometimes question if we're lacking a hard nose player like a Perry Kitchen, Darren Mattocks, Richie Laryea, or Ezana Khasay, but I'm not sure we had one in 2009. -

What was that awful display we watched last night? Lots of players on the bench who probably actually wanted to play but for some reason didn’t get the opportunity. Alen Kapic looked great for the few minutes he had but was subbed out…why? smh -
Yes, I can answer. As you say that I misunderstood you, buflobo did not say the Men's program shouldn't be emulated. He said "...the coaching staff of MSOC hardly should be held up as a shining example for WSOC to emulate." The current coaching staff has not maintained the standard. 2019 is a season we would all like to erase from the record book. Forget the COVID season(s)...doesn't count due to being out of anyone's control. 2021 and 2022 fell short...losing at home to Santa Clara and Pitt, and I'm not sorry to state that. The bar has been set high...maintaining it is difficult, yes. But, that is the expectation.

Wow. Talk about someone who should re-read their post and the post upon which they are commenting before hitting submit. Are you seriously laying the entire history of Zips Womens Soccer on Jen Simonetti, a coach who was hired 2 weeks before the start of the 2022 season, as you seem to be in your last several posts. No coach can be expected to right that kind of history in a season for which she had no time to prepare, one recruiting class of her own, and a few games into this season. As far as Zips Men's Soccer ... indisputably great record through the 2018 Season. However, buflobo is not out of line with his comments concerning recent Men's Soccer lackluster seasons.
