  1. Thanks all for the updates. I've been "watching" on the gametracker, too. Nice. Go Zips!
  2. Tickets for Soccer at CSU were $7 each.
  3. At the rate we are going, it could be ten years. I'm not over exaggerating either. I can't see myself actually giving a crap more than two more years at this rate. It's just terrible. I love UofA, but I just can't take watching/following this football team much more. I've been debating the past couple of years about what I should put my money towards at UofA. I don't see how my hard earned money given to the football program/athletic department is anything more than throwing good money down a hole. There are lots of causes at UofA I could give my money to. I'm going to have to start looking around. Have a nice evening. GP1, I agree with you concerning football. I had high hopes that a new, on-campus stadium would help U of A turn things around in football. But, for some reason, we have come full circle, bringing in coaches who have failed at Notre Dame, somehow thinking they will win at Akron . However, U of A has a good Mens Basketball team and a top notch Mens Soccer team, as well as success in other sports such as rifle and track & field. So, I wouldn't say giving your hard earned money to the athletics department is completely "throwing good money down a hole". I realize this may not mean much to you if you are totally dedicated to football, and I'm not interested in trying to convert anyone who dislikes soccer into being a soccer fan. But, at least consider that you have probably helped out (to some degree) a group of athletes who are proud to be Zips and who represent us well. So, I'll say thank you for that.
  4. Me and a couple other guys went to the Spring tournament in Pontiac, and it was in an indoor facility. Oakland was one of the teams in the tournament, but I don't know if that is their home facility. After just now checking their athletic website though, the game will be held at the same indoor facility. It's a pretty nice place with I think three soccer fields indoors. OK, good to hear. Guess it will be nice to be indoors, hope it doesn't cause problems for the Zips. Very nice place. I was also there in the Spring. It didn't seem to cause problems for our players then against Oakland or the Michigan Wolverines. Have a great time! Go Zips!
  5. Are you going with a group up to the game? I may be looking to put a few people together to make the trip. I hope a sizable group of Zips' fans make it to Pontiac. I can't make it this time due to work, and it's killing me. I've been fortunate to be at every game this year except the UNC game...because I was dumb enough to stay in Akron for the Syracuse football game (BAD choice). Go Zips!
  6. I just pre-ordered 2 tickets to the Mens Soccer game at CSU on Oct 30th. The lady with whom I spoke, Carrie, said they expected to sell out prior to gameday. She didn't know how far in advance...but, if you're considering going, you may want to call ahead. 216-687-5440
  7. Gametracker link under "Next Event, #1 Akron" on the right side of the schedule at Oakland Soccer Schedule
  8. Isn't that guy on the billboard our current Head Football Coach...how can we miss him when he's currently on our sideline?
  9. +1 I was happy to see Enrique. Dagilis, and others get into the game. I also assumed Brenes was redshirting, but glad to see him play and to talk with the guys in the autograph line after the game. I agree the time-only, at a minimum, for the west siders would be great. As far as more exciting opponents, the remaining home games - Buffalo, W. Michigan, Michigan and Creighton - should be fun games. A short trip to Cleveland State on Oct 30th should also be good.
  10. I agree Buckzip. I just liked that Poni commented on it in his blog. Same in the mid-80's, but I still didn't walk around wearing other schools' apparel.
  11. I could have put this in a number of threads (such as, Proud to be a Zip, UA Pride Night), but I thought it deserved its own. I don't know how many members of this board read "Inside the Box with Poni", but I, and I'm sure many others, especially appreciate this quote from his September 22nd installment: "Since this is my blog and gozips.com has given me free range to talk about almost anything that I want to, I would like to take a second here to address the student body here at The University of Akron. You all go to Akron, be proud of that. This is an amazing place to be right now. Knowing this, it makes me, and the rest of the team, absolutely sick to see the amount of other schools' paraphernalia that we see around campus. If you feel that you need to wear some other school's name on your chest while you are at The University of Akron, then maybe you aren't at the right school. We work hard every single day to give you guys something to be proud of and it kills us to see you support some other school." http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...TCLID=204975880 [if this was already posted elsewhere, I feel that it deserves to be posted again, as I just did.]
  12. Thanks for your insight Z.I.P. Not quite as easy to see all the action involved in Perry's score from beyond mid-pitch as it probably was on tv. Great article, too. GO ZIPS!
  13. Unless I missed it, I don't believe that Genovesi or Brenes have seen any regular season playing time (redshirts?).
  14. I also confirmed that admission is free. I believe that the website I linked sometime back may be old because I cannot find it from the Buckeyes' main page. I found it through a google search.
  15. Loved that call, too. Too bad our receivers can't catch...he was wide open.
  16. I woke up at about 4 am this morning, in time to watch the entire 2nd half on the Fox Soccer Channel replay (started at 3 am). The broadcast was awesome and everything looked great on tv, but still couldn't compare with being there. Kudos to Fox Soccer Channel for all of the accolades they showered upon Caleb Porter, our renovated pitch, the game atmosphere, the AK Rowdies (whom they mentioned and panned numerous times...can't even imagine what they were saying in the 1st half), and the especially the team/players. Nice interview with George Nanchoff. Just overall, a very well-done broadcast from what I saw. EDIT: Speaking of the AK Rowdies, I loved when they mentioned how happy Ray Clark (Tulsa GK) must be to be at the opposite end of the pitch.
  17. Personally, I think soccer should be played on real grass even though FIFA allows artificial surface and a number of teams play on it. I don't like the way the game plays on artificial surface, even the "rubberized" type such as that in the Info. Krenzler Field at Cleveland State, for example, has the same surface as Infocision Stadium. Anyway, last night, I think they said that our pitch is 77 yards wide (I think minimum is 70 x 110 yds, but preferred, I believe is 80x120). To meet the minimum, we would have to have 10 yds on each side of the football field. To me, that appears tight in the end zones at Infocision, where the stands curve back toward the field.
  18. I LOVE Akron Zips soccer, and I watch MLS and other soccer, as well, but I'm with you Skip-Zip. Can't we just enjoy Zips soccer for what it is without comparing it to our other sports? What is the point?
  19. Nice pre-game write-up of this game at ncaa.com http://www.ncaa.com/blog/mens-soccer/2010/...-weekend-1.html NCAA.com Men's Soccer Blog What A Weekend! By Drew Simon on September 24, 2010 5:48 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0) It is anything but a quiet weekend on the D-I Men's Soccer front and this blogger has decided to use his Friday to give you a preview of the two matches this weekend that will have every soccer fan salivating. And if this blog leaves you drooling, please, leave a remark in the comments section. And then clean up your chin. The Main Event(s) If there was any weekend that could be considered a mid-season playoffs, it would be this one. Two Friday night games are sure to peak any soccer fans interest and while there importance can be listed as 1A and 1B, the blog will start with No. 2 Tulsa at No. 1 Akron. And before we get into the game, can we please give a round of applause to Mid-Major schools. Tulsa, coming from Conference USA, and Akron, from the Mid-America Conference, have been in great form this season, both posting undefeated records. Tonight's game will surely be a classic and the 3,000 seat Lee Jackson Field in Akron has already sold out in preparation for the game. For those of you who will not be in attendance, the match can be seen on Fox Soccer Channel at 8:00 PM ET. Alternatively, you can click here to see the match through the Akron Zips website. Akron has certainly been a team on a mission ever since there dramatic loss in last years National Championship. Five consecutive victories has certainly been a way to displace those terrible memories, especially when you are yet to concede while scoring 11 goals against your opponents. Did I mention that they beat UNC behind a three goal performance and then defeated Wake Forest two days later? Well I did now. This is a squad that has come together over the offseason, lost a shock exhibition match to South Florida, realized that the talent was there, and have dominated opponents. Boy do they look good! Tulsa saw there season end in a 1-0 loss to Akron at Lee Jackson Field in the NCAA quarterfinals last year. They were also defeated by the Zips last year at Tulsa behind an Anthony Ampaipitakwong strike in the 10th minute during the regular season. But this is a new season for the Golden Hurricane (no, not pluralized) who have jumped out to a school best 6-0-0 record. There offense is led by junior Forward, Austin Neil, who is tied for the nation's lead with seven goals but the playmaker resides in the midfield through senior Ashley McInnes. Through six games, he has four goals and three assists and will be a handful for a stout Akron defense. Speaking of offense and defense, this isn't just a matchup of the two best teams, but also a matchup of the nation's best offense (Tulsa) against the nation's best defense (Akron). Tulsa come into this match with a 3.0 goals/game average while Akron is hoping to keep another shutout in an effort to tie an NCAA record for 11 consecutive clean sheets. That adds up to 1,020 minutes and 59 seconds since Akron has allowed a goal. Other things that take 17 hours: 1) A flight to South Africa 2) A work day on Wall Street 3) Watch all three parts of The Godfather...three times. The winner of this match is more than likely to take the No. 1 ranking in next weeks poll so there is clearly more than pride on the line tonight. Will the cliché hold that a good defense beats a good offense? Luckily, we are only a few hours away before game time. Enjoy this classic.
  20. Great job getting that on the air!
  21. WOIO 19 reporting it looks like the front will come through "dry". When last I checked weather.com, they were showing Friday night as cloudy, but no rain. It's not the rain, but the wind. Predicted 20 mph sustained with gusts of 40 mph. You're right...I saw that.
  22. WOIO 19 reporting it looks like the front will come through "dry". When last I checked weather.com, they were showing Friday night as cloudy, but no rain.
  23. You can also watch from the Student Union. I watched part of the UIC vs Cal St Northridge game from there...not too bad. EDIT: BTW, this just posted by Caleb a few minutes ago on twitter: "Tickets are almost gone for Friday's match...don't miss #1 Akron vs. #2 Tulsa tomorrow night at 8 PM at Lee Jackson Field." http://twitter.com/UACoachPorter
