  1. AMEN! and my feelings have nothing to do with Charlie Frye. I haven't a clue from his play so far whether or not he can be an NFL QB, but the Browns (C-L-O-W-N-S, if they draft a QB), have all of these more pressing needs before they draft a QB.
  2. I don't see how LeBron can be at a 7 pm Zips game in Akron and then play the Heat in Miami at 3:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. I'll be surprised if Mike Brown allows this given the Cavalier's recent struggles.
  3. I agree with you blueandgold. Free throws are critical to defeating the top teams in the MAC Tourney. And, of course,
  4. "Bubba must come up big for us to be victorious." - 71 Bobcat(While OU didn't win, he did help to turn a potential 32 point loss into a 31 point loss...I guess that's coming up big)sgm405 - That is one of the funniest things I've ever read! :-)
  5. We haven't beat a quality team on the road since Oral Roberts about 2 months ago. We lost to Toledo last night in pretty much the same manner we lost to them in the MAC tourney last year. Playing hard is great, but we need to stop crapping our pants late in the game vs. Toledo. I was hoping last night's game was going to prove we've gotten over the hump. We're still trying to figure out how to jump the hump...Hey, it could have been worse. We could have lost to a crap NIU team at home, like OU did last night. I'm with you Captain. The Zips played hard, but I really wanted that "quality road win" we haven't had in some time...and evidence that the Zips can get in done at The Q.
  6. I don't want to be down on this team any more than I think anyone posting here does. But, the fact is that the MAC Tournament cannot be won at the JAR. This very good team, that I love, has got to find a way to win big games away from JAR Arena.
  7. Personally, I like the Kangaroo A Head logo that Akron has now. It looks much better than anything we had when I was at UA. And, "Fear the Roo" is awesome! Just wish the marketing dept was so inept (or non-existent) in using it.
  8. This is the kind of game I fear in the Bracketbuster against Austin Peay. It's home, the Zips should crush them, but overconfidence can find a nasty way of spoiling things (painful example: 2006 Zips Football season).I'm not trying to be pessimistic...I believe the Zips will win, but KD needs to drive home the message to not become complacent. Do NOT take any team for granted! And, as always,
  9. Sorry Skip-Zip. I didn't mean to give the impression that it was at an actual competition event. The pictures were taken in Auburn Science Center where they are working on the Challenge X car. The article was discussing UA's participation. I'd post the Ohio.com link here, but the pictures aren't included in the online version (Thank goodness!) I don't think the engineering students would wear anything other than plain street clothes, business attire, or UA stuff to an actual competition. But, your point is still valid...that I'm sure they knew the ABJ was coming to do this article. And it just doesn't look good to have an Ohio State shirt on while discussing UA's participation in Challenge X.Now I'll stop ranting...I just needed to vent to others who share my frustration.
  10. I must admit, I don't remember that. Do you remember exactly when it was? With my Co-op jobs, i was at UA a semester, then out of state a semester...off and on.The thing that really irks me about those ABJ pictures is that I would love to show that article to colleagues of mine and tell them how great UA Engineering is. But, the first thing they'll do is say 'If it's so great, why the Ohio State shirt?"
  11. Anyone else appalled by the 2 pictures on the front of today's ABJ Business Section (section D)? Nice article...bad choice of apparel! I may be making more of this than I should, but here is a copy of the e-mail that I sent to the Dean of the UA College of Engineering today:Dear Dr. Haritos,First of all, let me say that I wish the UA Challenge X Team success in its latest endeavor. However, in my opinion, the two pictures on the front page of today’s Business Section (Section D) of the Akron Beacon Journal are a slap in the face to the University of Akron. As an Engineering Alumnus, I respectfully request that the UA College of Engineering adopt a policy whereby engineering students competing for and representing the University of Akron not be allowed to wear clothing of other universities during media interviews. Although I am an Ohio State sports fan, it is unacceptable to me that a member of a UA competitive team, Challenge X in this case, be allowed to have his picture taken for publication of a UA-related news article wearing apparel of another university. You would never see newspaper pictures of Romeo Travis, Dru Joyce, or Nick Dials wearing another university’s uniform. The University of Akron College of Engineering is an outstanding institution as has been proven time and again by the numerous competitions won by UA engineering students/teams. FEAR THE ROO applies to more than just athletics! Obviously these students have chosen UA because of its outstanding engineering programs. They should be proud to promote and represent the university they attend and represent. Please remind your students that UA is what all of us choose to make of it and that they should be proud to represent it well. After all, their diplomas will say “University of Akron”, not “Ohio State”.
  12. If the Browns are going to take anyone from an Ohio institution, it should be Andy Alleman. The need OL help more than anything else. Sorry Andy, I really don't wish the Browns curse on you. In fact, now I wish that Charlie had not been drafted by the Browns. They are my team, but they are a TERRIBLE football organization.
  13. This absolutely sucks. But, I think the biggest concern here is to not let disappointment, dismay, and disdain lead to defeat. As Captain said, we just have to deal with it and go kick @ss. Then take care of business at the Q.BTW...the ESPN website lists this game among the 14 on television. Has to be the U or 360. No way this will be on the Deuce.
  14. You're probably right. The point I was trying to make is that OSU's defense didn't play any worse than might have been expected. But, the offense certainly did not play up to what was expected of them.
  15. OSU's defense gave up 39 points to Michigan, but their offense scored 42. Since the defense was only 2 points worse against Florida, you can't really say that was unexpected. Had the offense again scored 42, OSU would have won 42-41. Afterall, OSU's "high-power" offense is where they got most of their accolades this season.
  16. Actually, I think Ohio State's first opponent is Youngstown State.
  17. SGM, I agree with you. All this OSU bashing does nothing more than make the person doing it look like a whiner. I am an Akron Alum, so I will cheer for the Zips to beat the Buckeyes next season. But, otherwise, I live in Ohio and will cheer for Ohio teams.BTW...if people feel that Akron is slighted in the media, look at the way Northeast Ohio media barely acknowledges Mount Union (9 D-III Championships since 1993). Oh yeah, the day of the Stagg Bowl is when you hear about Mt Union, but that's about it. Why aren't more of their games televised? Why don't they sell out their stadium for every game? In the great Northeast Ohio "hotbed of football", a perennial powerhouse is generally ignored.
  18. Actually, I wondered where Nick Goddard was at the end of the Nevada game. Akron down by 2 points and gets to inbound at half court. Why not throw it in to Goddard and let him have the final shot?
  19. Yes, my audio feed from the Binghampton web site has static. I wish I lived closer to Akron. I'd prefer to hear Steve French!
  20. It appears there is an audio feed on the Binghampton site...http://www.bubearcats.com/home.htmlhttp://bumedia.binghamton.edu/ramgen/encod...nsbasketball.rm
  21. The fact that it has been much more difficult this season than last to buy a single-game lower reserved seat (and I do mean 1 seat) seems to indicate that UA was quite successful in selling season tickets. Last year, I sat in Section J, Row C (directly behind the Zips bench) quite often without a season ticket. This year, the best I have been able to do is Section B or I, Row F.
  22. Was at the game. Small venue. Great to hear the 4 AK Rowdies who showed and the ~ 2 rows of Zips fans directly behind the Zips bench. Also, nice to meet Nick Dials' parents.GO ZIPS!
  23. I just have to disagree with your assessment of the coach's abilities and the adminsitration's action during the period that the University of Akron went to D-1A. First Muse was going to make a name for himself and drag Akron into the "Big Time" no matter who he ran over. The AD was nothing more than Muse's gopher. Look at the conference they put us in to get to D-1A status. No basketball, so Huggins left, it wasn't about money. Dennison was never given a chance try to bring the team into D-1A, Muse saw a chance to get a "BIG NAME" coach so he did. And speaking of the abilities of Gerry Faust, I grant you he could recruit, when did he ever win at the college level. He lost at Notre Dame (which is pretty hard to do) and he came to Akron and lost even with the gravy schedules and the cake teams they gave him to play against. I was there in the 60's with Gordon Larson, in the 70's with Dennison, and I was there when they hired Faust. Don't get me started :mad_flame: :mad_flame: I do agree that it was almost thirty years ago, and it is time to go on ........... I wholeheartedly agree with the assessments of Muse's destruction of UA football and basketball. I was a student at UA the day Huggins was hired. He was an AWESOME coach and still the only one to take the Zips to the NCAA Tourney at D-1. KD is OUTSTANDING and will get us back there. But, it's been a long time in the making. Muse deserves no credit for anything positive related to UA sports.
  24. I absolutely agree. In the late 80's when JAR was completed in its de-scoped form, UA President William Van Muse (total lack of vision) flushed Coach Bob Huggins' Zips (only UA D-I appearance in the NCAA tourny) in favor of a Gerry Faust-coached D-IA football team. It only took 19 years to recover. It would be absolutely inexcusable to let something like that happen again. The basketball program needs to be given its due.
  25. I did the same thing...what a disappointment. The Browns suck and Hixon's hasn't been able to play due to his foot injury.
