  1. Ehh I don't know. On one hand, let's not kid ourselves, we watch for entertainment. The zips were more entertaining with Alex. On the other hand, I don't want him representing my alma mater. Not really gonna be excited either way.
  2. Paid off.. So they have less expenses (ie no mortgage/bonds) and need more revenue to stay open. Interesting theory.
  3. Nice. Let's just combine this with the Abreu thread and Diggs talk and we can have an easy place to rip on 20 year olds.
  4. Correction: the students that sit down low want to stand. I think they'd also want to cram 'em in too, it's more fun.
  5. I think you're forgetting the fact that students want to stand.
  6. I think you read that wrong. I think they can get state money, just joking that positive cash flows from government money are somewhat of an oxymoron.
  7. Good luck getting that with government money
  8. II would agree if students wanted seats. Find a top program with chairs for their student sections, there aren't many. I think most students would be more than happy with bleachers along the sideline.
  9. It wasn't so much the numbers as much as posters just dismissing the idea because "it won't work." When you have a working example here in the Aeros, I'd say the onus of the argument would be to prove why it wouldn't work. Like I said, I couldn't care much less if it's basketball specific or not, I just found it funny reading that it's a bad investment without much reason why.
  10. Bleachers in the student section.. Makes it easier to cram more in.
  11. You can't make blanket statements like that. You could build a bigger basketball only arena for the price of a smaller multi purpose arena. At which point the rent is gravy, but our basketball experience is dampened with a smaller place.
  12. Anyway, I don't want to be confused with Jake, beating a dead horse. I don't really care if it has hockey, arena football or whatever.. I just want to see the Zips out of the JAR.
  13. I can't imagine a scenario in which a rent paying tenant isn't covering the extra cost of a "multi purpose" arena. Otherwise, there would be no one leasing to minor league teams. So then, in my opinion, the discussion turns to if a minor league team can sustain itself here.
  14. This is a message board, I'm not concerned with convincing any investors to bring a team here. Just speculating on if one could make it. And from what I've seen in the area, I think the answer is yes.
  15. Well Dave, I'm a CPA. Keep your assumptions in journalism.
  16. Right, so if a minor league team can sustain itself here (see akron aeros) we would have an extra revenue stream. I think the only evidence we have on the success of a minor league team here would be past attempts. The Aeros do well, the indoor soccer team set attendance records.. Why is it a poor investment? I'm going to pull a dave and ask for some real numbers here. I see a lot of people saying so and so will never succeed here or make money without much reasoning. Nevermind the fact that if we go multi purpose, it's because the city shared the costs with us, so we have less at risk.
  17. Huh?? They're not going to lose money on rent. As long as the team turns a profit and can pay rent and their expenses, the U will be turning a profit.
  18. If no minor league teams made a profit, they wouldn't exist. Doesn't mean they will succeed in Akron, but you can't just dismiss them as nothing.
  19. Well, I think it starts with winning
  20. Someone finally figured it out. MONSTER TRUCK SHOWS!!
  21. whaaa?
  22. Teams that can win in the tournament should and can chew up and spit out MAC teams. If we can build a team that wins in the tournament, we will surely beat the rest of the MAC as well. I think Thursday showed us that we're a little further from where we want to be than we thought, but I think we're still close. On one hand, we were (very) shorthanded. On the other hand, VCU is still a better team than us if we were at full strength. Bad matchup for us. We're getting there, just hope we keep making steps forward, and none backward.
  23. Putting the Shaka connection aside.. Why the hell would we want to play VCU again? Was Thursday not enough for you guys?
  24. Yep. Melo is actually a very good ball handler, but is no threat on offense. None whatsoever... Needs to develop something to keep defenses honest.
