  1. Really? Look at some of the hires they've approved in the past five or so years. The trustees that brought us Proenza are long gone. I'm worried that they hire someone far less competent than Tressel.
  2. First of all, he's qualified to teach classes at the university, as someone with a Masters in Education. He's also qualified to be an athletic director, and even has previous experience doing so. To say the only way he qualified to contribute to the university is as a football coach is an ignorant statement. Second, the University of Akron is a research university. Undergrad education has not been the primary goal of UA since its days as a city college.
  3. STO is dead.
  4. Tonight at 8:00. No streaming as far as I know, and no link to a stat tracker as of yet. Probably better off just following the Zips men's soccer twitter account.
  5. This is terrible news.
  6. Replace it with the steel one that's outside McDonald's.
  7. The warm-ups look better than the actual uniforms. Not sure how one would go about purchasing them, however.
  8. UCF board. Couple of posts, but not much. They're viewing this as a scrimmage to overlook.
  9. All I'll say is that UCF's biggest weakness is the defensive secondary.
  10. What's to say they won't have Faust in for a class or two? As a Zip fan, this is probably the best class you could ever take. Guess lectured by Dambrot, Kest, Bowden, and Embick? Not to mention Larry Kehres.
  11. Come on. Never watched The Mighty Ducks? Buncha old farts. Anyway, these guys are defensive linemen. Even if you want to move on from the past, embrace the reputation of having a mean streak.
  12. Maybe we should call them the Bash Brothers.
  13. Everything about the bowl in Montgomery is stupid, but ESPN demands it. However, having a bowl in Alabama has worked for the MAC. They've been playing the GoDaddy.com (Formerly GMAC) bowl in Mobile, AL since 2001 and I would say that it's been the MAC's most successful bowl in terms of winning, national recognition, TV ratings, and local support.
  14. ESPN "sources" tell ESPN that ESPN has created a bowl to be broadcast on ESPN between the MAC and C-USA. It will be played in the Bahamas.
  15. Looking more and more like the MAC is going to have a fourth bowl in Boca Raton, and possibly a fifth in Charleston, SC. People complain about the number of bowls, but the MAC is trying to ensure that they don't have 8-4 teams left sitting at home. I think that adding these bowls might create a tipping point where they tighten up the requirements to go to a bowl. First thing they can do is get rid of any loophole that allows teams with a losing record to go bowling, and then also require a .500 or better conference record. Say goodbye to those BCS teams that play four cupcakes out of conference and then only get two conference wins to sneak into a bowl. Ultimately, that benefits the MAC.
  16. We'll primarily be in the 4-3-3, but I expect to see a good amount of 4-4-2 as well.
  17. Yuck. As a replacement for Detroit, this is pretty awful. Hopefully, the MAC gets their rumored 4th bowl in Boca Raton vs C-USA. As a 4th option behind Mobile, Boise, and Boca, it's fine.
  18. Ball State is the best team in the MAC. Can we please stop saying that they are an expected win?
  19. Ball State and BGSU will play in the MAC Championship game this year. I see us beating JMU, Miami, Can't State, and UMass for four wins. We might beat someone else we're not supposed to, but this is how i see things shaping up. If we somehow beat UCF or Lafayette early on, all bets are off.
  20. The Thundering Herd are coming to town on Tuesday to play the Zips in an exhibition match. It will be nice to see the Zips play somebody other than themselves. It will also be interesting to see who starts and who finishes for the Zips. The battle for GK is still ongoing, and i bet we'll see a different keeper in the first and second halves. Move-in week will be going on, and I expect to see a lot of new students checking out what all the fuss is about.
  21. I went to the intra-squad scrimmage yesterday. While I'll leave most of the observations to others who have a better eye for that sort of thing, I can say that the team is quite deep in talent. We might not see too many freshmen getting playing time this season, including the international players. As expected, the possesion-oriented style is still there, and both sides displayed good spacing and crisp passing. Just watching them, I had a gut feeling that this team will be really, really good. I feel like they will come out and just dominate every team they face. I haven't felt this way about the soccer team since 2009 and 2010.
  22. I didn't think anybody else read those.
  23. I can go ahead and confirm that the NCAA has granted Zenel Demhasaj a 6th year of eligibility, and he will play for the Zips this year. Needs to go through the acclimation period, but that's another piece of added size, depth, and talent to the offensive line.
  24. ESPN says so. I don't agree at all. Everything is in place for a coach to succeed here. Just need to actually win.
