The weird thing is that they usually only wear them to sporting events. Go to campus on a regular school day and you will see tons of Akron gear and hardly a single piece of red-and-silver clothing. Then on gameday, they show up wearing that crap. I don't get it.

It's not about them. It's about AKRON. It's embarrassing because we're beating ourselves. We have the talent to play with nearly anyone, and we're losing because we don't know how to do anything else.

And I think we should completely eliminate having a band at sporting events. I have yet to attend a Zips sporting event where the band didn't detract from the overall experience.

I agree. This team has two major weaknesses: a go-to scorer, and confidence at the GK position. Pina just needs to believe in himself. He hesitates and is tentative, and it has cost him a few goals. Maybe he'll grow out of it as he plays more games. Don't forget that he's a freshman trying to fill some pretty big shoes. As for a go-to scorer, that will come in time, and I think we'll see one emerge very soon.

No thanks to SIU, and WKU just moved to C-USA so don't expect them to go anywhere soon. The MAC boards are all about adding JMU, and maybe Delaware if they ever get their act together. The other top candidates mentioned are a Missouri State/Arkansas State combo, and Stony Brook if they keep growing at their current pace.

Finally figured out what happened to James Price. Transferred to D-II school IUP, same school as former Zips QB Steve Franco.

Very interesting. Thanks for asking. I have my doubts that WVU would be in the ACC by now. They might have just been stuck in the same situation as UConn and Cincinnati. I would love to play WVU again.

Akron has progressed from a bad team in week one, to a mediocre team in week two, to what I would call a good team in week three. What happens in week four? This is a pivotal point in the season. Continue progressing, or take a step back and risk losing both momentum and confidence.

Could he maybe lend us a spare point guard? How glad is he that WVU escaped to the Big 12 and didn't get stuck in the AAC?

This is obviously the main reason why the Zips played so well.

Penn State will be drained by sanctions, and Pitt has repeatedly proven vulnerable to overlooking teams.

Cannot let the little things bother the players. They need to not dwell on what-ifs. Coach Bowden has a major job ahead of him to get the team to focus on next week's game.

ConnectAkron project is dead. Looks like UA got lucky in that they didn't lose most of what they were going to invest, and might be able to salvage some of it to extend campus wireless to off-campus housing south of Exchange.

If we should beat Lafayette, then we should also beat Can't State and Ohio. All three games are at home, and all three teams are at a similar level.

The goal should to do better than CMU did against them earlier this season, and to avoid any injuries.

He's on the roster. If he hasn't played yet he's probably redshirting. Not to mention, WR is our deepest position by far and we just don't have much room for a walk-on freshman to get playing time.

Last year, we lose this game. Badly. The players would have given up immediately after that turnover on the kickoff in the first quarter. "Here we go again". Bad teams let mistakes spiral out of control. While nobody out there can say that we're a "good" team, we've taken an important step by winning a close game. We lost all our close games last season, and it was devastating because we were so close to taking that next step four or maybe even five times. Winning ugly is still winning, and I don't care who it comes against. Now the team knows that they can fight back when things look bad. Look at the Wagon Wheel game last season. They were up 10 at halftime, and then one mistake happened, and the players began to doubt, and then more mistakes happened, and they blew the lead and the game.

It's meant to reflect what their fans are doing when they watch their football team. Why is Miami running plays out of the wishbone???

Is anybody watching the UCF@FIU game on CBS Sports? It's the beginning of the 4th quarter. Akron is better than FIU. UCF is just really good, and FIU is bad. If you watch this game, you'll feel better about where the Zips stand, though. We are not the worst team in the country, and there are teams on our schedule as bad or worse than FIU.

Or a supplemental position. Profs making an extra $8 an hour to talk to some students in their spare time, maybe?

Or, as a wild guess, we have a helmet stripe that looks like a closed zipper going from front to back.
