  1. People thought coach Bowden was joking or being modest when he said that his goal was to win two games this year. He wasn't. He knew what we have looked like the past however many years. He knew the massive psychological overhaul he would need to pull off to get these players winning football games. I think we as fans let ourselves get over-hyped. We knew it would take time, but we let our own hopes shorten our patience.
  2. I can't find a direct Strength of Schedule ranking. RPI is based very heavily on SOS, though. Goals Against average: 2007 - 0.59, RPI 10 2008 - 0.45, RPI 7 2009 - 0.27, RPI 3 2010 - 0.62, RPI 1 2011 - 0.70 ,RPI 20 I would argue that 2009 was our best defensive team. We did not allow a goal in the entire NCAA tournament, against the best teams in the country. Our schedule included (rank at end of season): #1 Virginia #4 North Carolina #7 Tulsa (twice) #14 Stanford #18 South Florida #19 Ohio State #20 Indiana
  3. Just don't burn any redshirts. Too late for that.
  4. French said pre-game that about 400 Zips fans made the trip.
  5. How did that Ou player get ejected?
  6. We're giving up 0.417 goals per game. I think we've done better in the recent past.
  7. I can assure you they are not.
  8. I think I'll have to check out a practice.
  9. It's a MAC game, which means it should be free on the MAC website, right?
  10. Zips make an appearance as one of the top 10 mid-majors, and is the "favorite in the MAC".
  11. I don't think it is. What really brought the fans was caliber of opponents we have played at home in past seasons. We don't host a top-5 team, only one school with any real name recognition (Michigan), and most of the early season that's crucial to build a strong fan atmosphere was spent on the road.
  12. Returning the entire team with a new coach that wants to change things up is a bad recipe. I would be more concerned if Jim Christian brought in a few players that fit his style. He only knows how to coach his own system, and will try to force everyone to fit into it.
  13. He's up to 32.
  14. Also, remember that next year transfer senior CJ James will be eligible to play on the defensive line.
  15. I'm not actually too worried about the offensive line. Yes, we're losing three starters, but that position is actually fairly deep. We have a lot of young talent there. With the ten remaining spots, I would like to see us go after one LB, two or three for the DL, one LS, one or two quick-hitting RBs, another Safety, two WRs, and a Guard.
  16. We had a solid game plan and a good strategy with good playcalling throughout the game. Our strategy and playcalling were not the problem. But coaching is more than that. It's about psychology. Our offensive players let the fumble in the second quarter kill their spirits. After that, they weren't the same. Their body language showed it. They had given up, decided that they weren't going to win, even when they had the lead at the time. It's the coaching staff's toughest challenge. To get the players to believe in themselves even when things don't look perfect.
  17. We all know that we lack depth at almost every position. You have been put in charge of coordinating the remainder of this year's recruiting class. Where should our coaches focus their efforts? Which positions need a boost the most? Would a mostly unheralded incoming freshman be an improvement somewhere? Here are the details that you need to know: 15 seniors are graduating 3 offensive linemen (3 starting) 3 cornerbacks (1 starting) 2 linebackers (2 starting) 1 defensive lineman 1 running back 1 tight end 1 safety (1 starting) 1 longsnapper (1 starting) 1 wide receiver (1 starting) 1 quarterback (1 starting) We have five known verbal commitments. 1 quarterback 1 safety 1 tight end 1 offensive tackle 1 center Without knowing the scholarship situation for certain, let's say we have room for 10 more recruits. What positions should they be? High school or JUCO? Where do we focus on building depth, knowing what we have returning? Remember that coach Bowden likes to redshirt as many freshmen as possible, so assume we won't find more than one or two starters in this year's class.
  18. The WAC is no longer a football conference. Strictly non-football, like the A-10 or Horizon League.
  19. http://www.heraldextra.com/sports/college/...1a4bcf887a.html The WAC is still finding a way to survive. They're inviting Utah Valley and CSU-Bakersfield.
  20. Well, you can forget Towson (although JMU and Delaware would be the best possible options for the MAC if they were to expand). Towson AD Mike Waddell just cut Men's Soccer and Baseball so he could start up a Men's Tennis program.
  21. You can vote once a day - if you only have one email account. UA students have two useable ones, the @zips.uakron.edu one, and one that is just @uakron.edu. In normal use, both go to the same email account, but both can be registered as separate accounts on the voting website. Add in a personal email, a work email, and there's four ways to vote every day. Plus, you can now use Facebook as an email account. That's five. Not everybody has all of these, but nobody has just one email address anymore.
  22. The first round of voting is supposed to include all 124 FBS QBs. The top 16 move on to become finalists. Fan votes count for 5% of the selection committee's voting. Fan voting ends at 1:00PM ET on October 21st.
  23. We have five or six.
