These kids left Firestone because they thought that Buchtel would give them a better chance at an athletic scholarship. I think their thinking is flawed. If you really are good, the colleges will come to you. It also raises some questions, such as whether colleges take inferior players just because they come from a certain school while ignoring talent from lesser-known schools. I can't imagine any college coach worth his salt would allow himself to be blinded by something like that. But as far as this relates to the Zips we're already recruiting Firestone under Ianello. It's not like if a great player pops up at East or Kenmore we wouldn't notice them, not when they play at the Info a few times a year. For a long time, I've heard about certain city series coaches discouraging kids from considering Akron football and badmouthing us. I think this tactic was being used by Ricky Powers to coerce these four kids into ruining their football careers. He had to mention that they wouldn't get a D-I scholarship at Firestone, something that Akron has proven to be false. That leads into Akron being called less than a D-I school.

Defensive strategy? Blitz the crap out of the rookie QB. Hope their WRs are as terrible as our secondary so that they cancel out. If the spring game told us anything, it's that our D couldn't stop a peewee RB with no blockers.

This time it's a football player. Charged with assault, possessing a fake i.d., and underage drinking.

Adding UMass in football I think gives the MAC more leverage against Temple if they ever decide to force them to crap or get off the pot. They're both in the A-10, so both leaving that conference at the same time is a little easier. Now I don't see it happening until all their other football options are eliminated.

If UMass is joining, then the MAC must be confident that Temple won't leave. I don't like the idea of North-South divisions, however.

Not hilarious. Nauseating. But so were almost all the plays we ran last season.

Shocker. Coming off an 11-loss season, I have to believe that any good thing shown by a player or unit is mostly caused by the failures of the unit opposite them.

I think it was a terrible showing. Our defense will be lucky to hold any opponent under 40.

Don't count on it. Anyway, I'll be there until the soccer game starts. I would rather stand in the rain and thunder to see a proven winner play another team than a bunch of losers trying not to injure themselves against teammates. Offense vs Defense format is awful. It's the hallmark of a team with little to no depth, the scoring is convoluted, and you don't really get to see who is better at contested positions (i.e. no Nicely vs Moore).
