This is good news. No, it doesn't change the fan experience, but it does improve the athlete experience. It makes hosting top national prospects in tournaments at the JAR less embarrassing. I think this is only the first part of something bigger planned for the JAR. I have nothing to back this up, but it seems like a "phase I" of a renovation.

NC State QB Russell Wilson granted release from scholarship. Led the ACC in total offense (3,998 yards) last season with the fourth highest single-season total in league history. Also led the ACC in TDs scored (37) and in passing TDs (28) in 2010. All because he wanted to be a dual-sport athlete and his coach didn't like that.

I like that blog more and more. Yesterday they came out with an article on Blueshirting. What's blueshirting, you ask? It's a way to allow players to greyshirt without sitting out a year. It's a loophole in the 25 scholarship recruiting rule. It's something Ianello should take full advantage of before the loophole gets closed.

I suppose that you weren't in attendance today when we played Pitt at Canal Park? Or when we played WMU or Malone there either. And I bet nobody will be there for the game against West Virginia next week either. Here are the attendance figures for the games played at Canal Park and Lee Jackson so far: CP: 237, 212, 157, 163, 145 LJ: 108, 158, 157, 124, 0, 0, 123 I do wonder how much it costs to play at Canal Park. It's owned by the city of Akron and high school teams play there more frequently than we do.

Baseball is one of six sports required for MAC membership. So the program isn't going anywhere. I think a coaching change is needed, along with an actual baseball facility. The facility doesn't need to be huge, but it does need to be something that isn't put to shame by the local high school fields. One thing we need to be doing is going after some of these CSU players. Their record isn't too great, but we're not any better. Get some of the better ones and it can only help our team.

No Zips taken in the UFL draft. Only one MAC player was taken at all. I think the other football leagues have a better chance to sign talent this year because of the lockout preventing free agents signing with the NFL. This puts them at a disadvantage since they can't even try out, talk to the coaches, or do anything other than work out. The CFL draft is on Sunday, although I don't think we have any players who are eligible for it. IFL draft is on June 11th.

This puts even more egg on the faces of Jim Delaney and the Big Ten, who never let an opportunity go by to remind people that AAU membership was the essential to being a member of the conference. It's also hilarious to see one of the big boys finally come out and say that the AAU membership metrics are a bunch of bullsh!t.

It is my understanding that one of the transfers paid his own way this academic year. Go Zips!! B) B) If one did and one did not, then the scholarships are all set, assuming everyone qualifies.

Glad to see Nik is coming back. Our frontcourt is going to be pretty impressive. Our scholarship situation is a little confusing. We graduated four seniors on scholarships and had one transfer leave. That means 5 scholarships are open. We have two incoming freshmen and two players who sat out academically. But we also have the two transfers who were on the roster. If both transfers were on scholarship last year, that means we still have one 2011 scholarship to give. Does anyone know if our transfers were on scholarship or if they had to pay their own way last season?
