Dayton names Archie Miller as their new HC. Now I worry about Boals going to Can't.
-
University of Akron coach Keith Dambrot was not contacted and has not pursued head coaching job at the University of Dayton The fans wanted him, but the university hasn't made a move on him. I kind of want Boals to go there, if only so he doesn't end up at a MAC school where we have to face him twice a year.

These videos are infinitely more watchable with YT's new "1911" button.

Alright, so taking a deeper look, Dambrot makes $320k base, and can earn around $307k in bonuses by fulfilling certain criteris, such as winning the MAC regular season, the MAC tournament, progressing in the Dance, etc. I don't know how many of the goals were met or how much they were worth, but I would venture a guess that he made at least $400k. Out of all the teams that went dancing, Dambrot was the 47th-highest paid coach out of the 59 teams that salaries were known for. However, he has the 23rd-highest potential bonus payout. So, his contract is heavily based on incentives compared to other schools who went dancing. Data comes from USA Today I think Dambrot deserves to make about $400k base and keep the incentives about the same when I look at the list and compare us to where we like to think of ourselves in relation to where we stand among mid-majors.

Finally...Moore Information on the QB Situation
ZachTheZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
This one will stick in my mind, however it turns out, I will remember this quote: ''I think Akron is a sleeping giant. You have got to give them two or three more years. The way they can coach and recruit, this is going to be a juggernaut.'' Best April Fools joke I've heard all day. -
If he's being lured by the promise of an always full arena and a better salary, maybe we should try investing some money into getting those things right here for a guy who has brought us to the big dance twice in three years.

He's an Akron alumnus. Dayton is rumored to be willing to pay seven figures. I would hope Dambrot would stay. I think he has a job here until retirement assuming he doesn't regress to MAC West levels. He's the best coach in the history of the program. But at UD he's just another coach and he's done some things that would make him unpopular there like being friends with LeBron and the CMU incident.

Not if you require a .500+ conference record to get in. That would limit most BCS conferences to 50% of their membership, and let in more overlooked midmajors. The best part of a 96-team format is that you eliminate all the crappy teams on the first weekend and you get a true top-64 bracket instead of one loaded with teams whose only value is name recognition.

It is bad. I wonder if the neighborhood its located in has anything to do with it. Friends of students who live in the ghetto only have to walk a few blocks to get there. I wouldn't be surprised if the perps were off-campus students themselves. Until we bulldoze everything south of UA bounded by I-76, Route 8, and the train tracks, things like this will continue to happen. It's happening, but it's slow.

Luke Fickell -Tressel Replacement For First 5 Games
ZachTheZip replied to wadscarman's topic in Akron Zips Football
Did Tressel try to pimp him here to Akron? Yes. And I believe we made a mistake not accepting his generous bribe. On top of having a better coach, we could have had a nice donation to help pay off the stadium. -

Bringing in Moore can only be a good thing. Nicely needed someone to push him hard to improve. If Nicely wins out, he's our guy for the next two seasons or until he gets hurt. If Moore wins, we're also better at QB than last year. We'll be better regardless. Even if Nicely wins, we'll see Moore under Center because he has three years, and Nicely graduates in two. So when Nicely graduates, we'll have an experienced senior QB who can step in immediately.

I was wasting some time on Facebook when a poll appeared asking people to choose UA or Can't. Can't is winning. They have more people who are actively involved with their school via Facebook. UA lags behind when it comes to pretty much everything on the social media front. UA's Facebook page has 5,437 people, while Can't has 17,025. How do we change this? Casual word of mouth? A focused campaign from whoever is in charge of this stuff in marketing?

Tim Carroll is a Graduate Assistant. How does that work if he never graduated? He also wasn't on scholarship... not sure if that played into it. They never mentioned being on scholarship as factoring into it. So they're either wrong, or being intentionally misleading. Last year, TC graguated, but Chris McKnight and Jimmy Conyers went to Europe to play as professionals. We only has two seniors on scholarship, and both were good enough to become pros. We had some players transfer out, in good academic standing, to schools where they will almost certainly graduate from in time. I think they're intentionally leaving out important details to make a point, at our expense.

No, no, no, Cap'n, you have it all wrong ... !!!! Tressel's a LYINGweasel. Both of you are wrong. He is a lying, cheating, phony weasel. Yeah? Well now he's rumored to be a lying, cheating, phony, UNEMPLOYED weasel. Link? I can't link to a radio show, unfortunately. ESPN 97.5 in Philadelphia reported it.

Ford Gave Can't State No Notice Before Accepting Job at Bradley A good read.

Perhaps you could refer to us as the Zips. "I'm going to a Zips game." No way they can mistake that for something else. When talking about the university (not sports) I always say UA. When talking about sports, I tend to say Zips. If people are too ignorant to figure out what I mean, they're not the kind of people I would want to be talking to anyway.
-
Can we just start calling it "Akron"? Leave out the U. It better associates us with the city. You don't hear people calling Dayton "Dayton U" or Pitt "Pitt U".
-
If Dambrot does go to Dayton (he won't), we need to throw together as much money as possible to get Jeff Boals. In my mind, he's the only acceptable replacement at this point.
-
Dan Hipsher is looking to return to a coaching job in Ohio. Could be Dayton, could be Can't, could be OU if Groce moves to Dayton. If he goes to a MAC East school, I will be unable to control my laughter.
