Once again, Tennis is starting out the season on a hot streak. They're 3-0 with wins over Penn State, Michigan State, and Louisville all on the road. Hopefully we'll have another ranked team on campus (or off campus, since they compete somewhere else for their "home" matches).

He's gone. Time to start looking for a new DC. UA has even removed the video posted yesterday of him talking about our recruiting class presumably to keep negative comments from showing up, or perhaps out of spite since it's simple enough to disable comments. Unfortunately, it seems that some people associated with the football program were caught unaware by the news. It's generating some bad will.

Winning would redeem them. They haven't done that. Recruiting is not the same as winning. As it stands, the staff is 1-11 and has lost to an FCS team. They have dug a deep hole to climb out of, deeper than need be.

Last year didn't need to be a write-off. Ianello didn't need to change the offense from a spread to a pro and then make an excuse that the players didn't know the scheme. He didn't need to run off a bunch of players and then complain they they didn't have the depth to run efficient practices. He could have put in an offense that employed more things that the players knew, knowing that in a year or two he would move to a full pro-style with players that know the scheme. He could have kept enough players to run a proper practice around until the end of the year and then let them go instead of letting them drop like flies throughout the duration of the season and creating unnecessary locker room drama. But he created more problems because it gave him more excuses.

You find out immediately whether a coach can coach. You find out quickly if he can market his team to fans. You find out years later whether he can recruit. Ianello and his staff can't coach. Coaching in college is the art of getting the most out of a bunch of bunch of 18-22 year old guys who would rather be partying. If you can't coach another coach's players, you can't coach your own players because in reality the old and new players aren't that much different. If you make bizarre playcalls with the other coach's players, having your own won't make it any better because a fieldgoal is still only 3 points when you're down by 21. Sometimes overwhelming talent can make up for a lack of coaching, but this class doesn't have that, even if they are better than the players they are replacing. Ianello's big sell for his hiring was that he was supposed to be the best recruiter around, but he isn't recruiting players that are a step above the rest of the MAC. And don't forget that even if his recruits are somehow all-MAC players, they're only 25% of the team so he still needs to be able to coach the other guys if he wants to be successful.

Mallory to UM is all but official. Can't really blame him for leaving. He's a Wolverine at heart.

Price, Schrock, Suelo, ...that's one position we should be decent at now, especially with our size. A QB who hasn't played before throwing to three receivers who haven't played before.

But who will he throw to?

Bench McKnight. Bench McNees. Don't let them back on the court unless we're in a blowout.

KD needs to find somebody who can score. It sure isn't those two. Maybe if they didn't chuck it up so often we could really feed the ball to Zeke, who can score if given the opportunity.

The full press conference is up on gozips.com to watch. ABJ article. Matt Rodgers graduated and has left the team. Dylan Potts is being moved to WR. That's why we signed 3 QBs and why D'Orazio will be tried at QB before we decide if he should play as a DB.

Can we bench McNees and McKnight? Just bench them and let youth take over. I don't care how good their freaking practices are, when they are on the court during the games they actually make it harder for their team to win. Bench them. They're scrubs who couldn't shoot 50% in a rec league game. Get them out of the line up.

When he was on the radio, Ianello mentioned how this is the first year of a two year plan. If this is year 1, what was last year?

I've never understood why we don't switch to UStream for events like this and live games. Maybe in the future we will, like how we finally switched all our pre-recorded media to Youtube. Speaking of youtube, maybe the presser will show up on there sometime tonight where we can watch it in somewhat decent quality.
