  1. I agree. Being on the Akron staff last season and at Syracuse for a few seasons prior to that doesn't seem like any kind of positive resume. What a staggering amount of losses Coach Jackson has endured over the past several seasons. He's lost more games than anyone on the K.e.n.t. staff over the same period. That's incredible. Good luck Rice...you'll need it. Maybe the loss of these defensive coaches has more to do with the way the recruiting class has turned out. Any chance that the defensive side had a number of selections they wanted but icoach shut the door??? I don't get the feeling that we were particularly choosy with who we recruited this year. With our DC, it was mostly a matter of him being a former Michigan player. He gets to go back to his alma mater to coach where he played. With our DL coach, I think it's just that Rice pays their coaches much more than we do.
  2. MLive.com takes a look at how the MAC recruiting classes did, based on how many offers the recruits had.
  3. What that all tells me is that McNees needs to stop shooting the ball.
  4. Yes. Yes he has. In just the past six months he donated hundreds of new computers to the Akron Public Schools, gave out thanksgiving meals to the homeless, and gave bicycles to underprivileged kids. All in Akron. Not Cleveland. Not Miami. Not to mention an improved sense of Akron being its own city and not a tag-along to a selfish and empty shell of a rust-belt city. Some people actually want to be recognized as just another Cleveland suburb, providing no more to the region than Broadview Heights or Chagrin Falls. Should we just throw all that away because he took a better job opportunity somewhere else? He still comes back here, you know. Whenever he gets the chance. To visit his family and his friends and the places he still loves from when he was growing up.
  5. Another win for the Zippers!
  6. No need to worry about that now.
  7. Are we seeing the beginnings of a Defensive coaching staff overhaul? I'm not sure what these coaches did to make other schools want to hire them.
  8. Probably when he had the area code tattooed on his skin. That's committment.
  9. A Clevelander's concept of regionality is to put all the money into downtown CLE and let everywhere else rot. Until Cleveland begins to acknowledge that there are other cities in the area that aren't a part of their system of suburbs, Akron has to fight for itself.
  10. Does you really think we played well? I don't think we did. WMU handed us the game with a lots of turnovers and poor performance on defense. We took advantage by actually making our shots. We should never allow a team as poor as WMU to have two 20-point scorers. Zeke doesn't get the ball enough. Some of you say he doesn't do enough when he does get the ball, but how can he learn what to do if he only gets the opportunity to take 6 shots a game? McNees had a career high in assists. Seven. He's not a PG. But he did change up his game to avoid dribbling 8 feet behind the arc for most of the shot clock and I hope that change wasn't temporary. Nik has really played well. It's crunch time for him. He only has a few games left to get better and leave to play in Europe. Brett McKnight got 1000 points, and that's with him missing almost a year of his career from suspensions and sitting out half his freshman year. But it's a case of quantity over quality. Back your man down, Brett. Play like a post player, not some NBA wannabe hoisting up turnaround fadeaway jumpers over players you have a significant size advantage against. Diggs continues to improve. He's got the potential to really be a top MAC player by the end of the year and a monster talent in the future. Bardo gives his all, and that's all you can ask for. He's our best defensive player and he's seemingly the only one on the team willing to knock heads with the opposing big men while the rest of our frontcourt dances around them. I don't know if we can get it together as a team, but it requires improvement individually from certain players. Now's the time to get it going, though. Ball State is next and they lead the West. Luckily it's at home.
  11. I've been trying to find our full spring schedule, but it's not out yet. So far, we know about the Spain trip. Xavier announced their schedule and they are playing at Akron on April 16th at 1 PM. We're also playing Notre Dame, but the date is unknown.
  12. I think we (Akron) had something to do with this. Maybe we inspired him with the amount of support our program gets from the university and the community. Maybe he wanted to go to a school where his program could be #1 instead of way in the background no matter how successful it becomes. He was the Head Coach at UNC for 22 years. Arguably the most successful coach in the country during that span. You don't leave that without a good reason. Oh, and of course Porter's name is coming up all over the message boards. Their attention would be better focused finding a more realistic candidate.
  13. Every single game from here out is a "must win". It has to be. I hope that if Dambrot insists on playing McNees and McKnight that they break out of their shooting slumps. If they can't, please start putting in Egner and Euton for their sakes and for the teams'.
  14. A new offer: LB Nayeem Wartman And get this: Eddie Goldman currently has more scholarship offers than all our 2011 signees combined. Twice over.
  15. Official press release for the Soccer 2011 signing class. Everybody can stop panicking now. Also, there's this:
  16. Barring something unforseen, Goldman will end up one of the top 20 national prospects of the class of 2012. He has something like 50 offers by this point and they're from the top teams in the country. If Ianello thinks he has a legitimate shot to land Goldman, he's either delusional or he has yet to reveal his true recruiting abilities to us (even though we could have used them in the 2011 class).
  17. No. We lost to CSU. No team that loses to CSU can legitimately claim to be the best ever.
  18. The Zips already have some offers out there for 2012 recruits. Hopefully they've been preparing for this recruiting class from the beginning. Recruiting is about building relationships with the players, their families, and the high school coaches. The staff only had one year to do that for 2011's class which might have hampered their ability to bring in talent, but if they're smart they've been working on this class from the beginning. So far our offer list looks like this: Enrolled at Akron: DB Malachi Freeman, Nassau C.C. DE Albert Presley, Dean J.C. FS Benny Cunningham, Medina HS OL Rodney Carroll, Hargrave Military Academy QB Tyrell Goodman, Stepinac HS S DeAndre Scott, Hargrave Military Academy TRANSFER RB Quentin Hines, Cincinnati TRANSFER WR Avis Commack, Florida State Verbally Committed to Akron: DE Arlington McClinton, Midview HS LB Darryl Waters, Hargrave Military Academy LB Dylan Evans, Pen Argyl HS LB John Rachal, Dillard HS LB Keionne Baines, Armwood HS OG Curtis Black, Roosevelt HS OG Kevin Mills, McKinley HS OG Quaison Osborne, Hudson HS OG Michael Casimos, Don Bosco Prep OLB Daryan Martin, Princeton HS QB Steve Franco, Tyrone Area HS RB Bryan Green, Farmington HS RB Conner Hundley, St. Xavier HS RB Imani Davis Belen Jesuit prep SS James Turner, Fairfield HS WR Andrew Pratt, Green HS WR Josh Smith, Western Hills HS Offered, uncommitted: Offense: C Xavier Ruben, Blinn College OG Willie Henry, Glenville HS OG Johnny Caspers, Glenbard West HS OT Ryan Anderson, Roosevelt HS QB Max Ward, Highspire HS RB Marcus Horne, Bradley Tech HS RB Wade Edwards, Armwood HS RB Kyle McKinnon, New London HS RB Elijah Hughes, Elizabeth HS RB David Jones, McDonough HS TE Bill Albert, Brighton HS WR Ronrei Lloyd, Snow J.C. 19. http://www.wkbn.com/content/news/local/sto...cZJRcL1wwQ.cspx A little too close for comfort. Hopefully everyone else survives their wounds.
  20. So you're telling me that an Opinionist on a 24-hour TV news channel didn't pay attention in middle school science class? I'm shocked.
  21. McKnight comes in and immediately jacks up a turnaround jumper that's way off.
  22. Does anybody know about what this might be? Cleveland is apparently also getting a new team, but it's unclear what level they will be at..
  23. In a JUCO league, you play against the "best of the rest". Players who couldn't get a D-I scholarship for whatever reason but were still good enough to make their JUCO team. So middle-to-upper high school talent that's a year or two older and stronger. Better than playing against solely high school teams and players, but it comes at the cost of time and less years of eligibility. Did Moore win a league championship or something more? I'm not clear on what he won.
  24. Dambrot is going back to basics.
