  1. I hope UB beats Can't, but in 2 or 3 OTs. They have the short turnaround and play us on Saturday. We need to not only win out, but by double digits in every game to send a message when we eventually win the MAC tourney that we're better than a 16 seed (unless we play OSU in Cleveland, then I'm all for the 16 seed because of just hwo awesome that game would be).
  2. I saw one on ebay yesterday for $5. It should still be there.
  3. Wish we could have brought in Stacy as a position coach. In other news, We have learned that Akron offensive grad assistant Jeff Blasko has accepted the same position on Will Muschamp's staff at Florida.
  4. I had to re-link this from Rasor's blog. Say what you will about Miami, but MAC basketball just wouldn't be the same without Charlie Coles' press conferences.
  5. Hopefully the amount of units now available will start to make the prices level off for off-campus housing. Some places have started to raise rent to levels that are a little ridiculous for how nice they are/what neighborhood's they are in. Hopefully. And hopefully it leads to more developers to replace some of the older housing with more modern places in order to keep up. Or even better some more shops open up downtown and continue transforming it into a place to be.
  6. Nick Dials relives a moment we all wish we could forget. Reading this makes me even more pumped to beat Miami. There will NEVER be enough wins against them to make up for what happened.
  7. More student housing to be built downtown. Good news for both UA and downtown.
  8. Because we've got a lot of ground to make up in that regard.
  9. Tennis picked up a pair of wins over Xavier and Cinci this weekend to go to 5-0. They should be ranked soon if they keep winning.
  10. We're having a great discussion here, but it probably deserves its own thread. As for the strength coach, maybe he can take this idea from Mizzou. Practicing in bare feet to strengthen the foot and ankle muscles.
  11. i agree 100%. It sounds mean, but when my friends think of the rowdies, they don't see them as people they want to be associated with, so i can't talk them into sitting down low. Don't know how to fix it, but it is what is. Bring them to the north side. All we do is yell at the refs, make noise, and tell jokes. And talk Zips athletics.
  12. Were there really so few people there? If so, shame on Akron. The Blue Jays are a name program and the game should have been close to sold out. Attendance was about 2800. People who actually cheered during the very entertaining and competitive basketball game was closer to about 50.
  13. Cochran going to Youngstown State - did he get the boot or did he quit??? I don't know. Was our team in better shape last year than they were under Brookhart's strength coaches? To me, we looked slower, weaker, and undersized even against MAC competition and on level with Gardner-Webb.
  14. Try this.
  15. Because the rest of the GA viewers (not fans) yell at them for acting like students attending a college basketball game. The JAR is not a movie theater, but the attendees seem to think the same rules apply. That's why the students need to have their own section, seperate from the GA. Students and GA should not mix.
  16. Four or five years ago, the Rowdies sent a person upstairs at halftime with passes to get down to the lower sections. Halftime is a reasonable time to do it.
  17. Kyle Peterson will be a senior next year. Dambrot usually lets walk-ons get some time once they make it to their senior year. I can see him getting time especially as a back-up PG, where we really don't have anyone outside Abreu.
  18. We're going to need somebody to step up at the 4-spot. My guess would be: PG: Abreu SG: Gilliam, Walsh, Justice, Peterson, Ibitayo SF: McClanahan, Diggs, Treadwell, Harney, Green PF: Egner, Euton, Oldham, C: Marshall I think I have everybody. But that's with all the players playing their ideal positions. Obviously one or two of the SGs will have to put in time at PG and some of the PFs will have to fill in at C. We don't really play strict roles with our positions and in the middle you could switch around the Forwards and SGs as the situation warrants. It's good to be really deep at the 2s 3s and 4s.
  19. When they start doing their jobs well enough they don't deserve to get bashed, I'll stop bashing them. Right now one of Ianello's jobs is to hire quality replacement assistants, and he's doing poorly on that front.
  20. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  21. I just realized that one of the refs was Bo Boroski. No wonder...
  22. This game provided a good test. We faced what amounts to a top-3 MAC team and hostile referees and came away with a hard-fought win. Nice to get a decent challenge after not even having to try against BGSU. I think the Bluejays revealed some weaknesses that still need worked on, which helps prepare for the tough remaining portion of the schedule. Oh, and poor Zeke, on his growth-chart poster night the refs decide to make it an automatic foul to be 7' tall.
  23. Why do you have to talk that way about other programs? Is it because Akron is the worst team in the worst conference in D1 so it makes you feel better? It's a fact that iCoach is driving away players in maas (he even drove away the "Rudy" award winner) - the fact that they won't see the field is not the issue, the issue is why are all these kids leaving. For every kid that leaves, there is probably at least one other kid that wants to leave but can't since they are on scholarship. The kids that left are thinking they can either stay with a program they hate and possibly see their grades suffer, or transfer to a quality school and still play the game they love. Remember, the main reason for going to college is to learn, not play football. The focus should be on education first, not athletics. So when your attitude about the athletics effect your performance in the classsroom, it is time to move on. For over 99% of these players, this will be the last football they play. It gives us a chance to get rid of non contributors and add better talent. I doubt these guys even added practice squad depth. I have no problem with this. Some of these guys want to play ball, they dont want to be practice squad dummies. This may have nothing to do with Ianello and more to do with guys wanting to see the field. How do you add better talent? We're limited to 25 signees per recruiting class. You can't add more talent when you're already at the max number of players you can bring in.
