  1. Hunter did a great job of marketing... to corperations and rich alumni. The problem is that that's not who should be focused on right now. We need the support from the community, the regular people looking for something to do for cheap on a saturday afternoon. Once we get a strong community base, the companies and big donors will follow. High attendance means more people to market their companies to with billboard ads or radio commercials. The marketing right now is backwards. They're building something from the top down.
  2. Zips win 3-1 over the #12-ranked South Florida Bulls. Aside from one or two lapses, this was total domination by the Zips. We had 9 shots on goal to their 1.Too bad the lighting system is completely screwed up. The lights on the north side of the firld shut off twice, once during halftime which delayed it, and again in the 68th minute, causing a stoppage of play. At least it happened during an exhibition game and not during the most important game of the year, our next home game against Indiana, so they have almost a month to fix it.
  3. I said at the beginning of all this that if the University conducted a national search and Yurachek turned out to be the best guy for the job, so be it. I'm just glad they did the search. I would love to see a list of finalists, though. I was hoping for somebody to come in with a bigger vision, somebody who would shake some things up that need it, but with Hunter it's going to be more of the same which isn't good for basketball attendance or marketing. Or getting screwed by the NCAA, which has happened faaar too often under Rhoades and Yurachek's watch.
  4. As long as they get to practice with the team before the season begins and will become eligible by Sept. 5th, I'll be patient. There's always the redshirt or greyshirt options, but if the players could contribute this season it can get frustrating. The "wait 'till next year" thing has run its course for me. I want to see these guys NOW, especially if they are able to contribute immediately.
  5. It's game day! Akron is taking on South Florida in a pre-season exhibition. Just because it doesn't count doesn't mean this won't be a highly contested game with both teams going all-out. USF sees an opportunity to knock off a top team and get some attention, while the Zips have revenge on their minds, remembering the last time they came here.
  6. Sure, that's how it always starts. But later there's crying and torment as the reality of the curse sets in. I hope that thread goes strong and becomes wildly popular. I know how these things work, and it can only become an advantage for us. We'll be good as long as nobody attempts the same thing here.
  7. Does anybody here have any Wikipedia editing skills? I think our titanium bridge would go nicely here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanium#Cons...d_architecturalNobody's done anything like this bridge before. Plus it's a nice way to sneak in a mention of UA in someplace unexpected (I love coming across references to UA in seemingly random places).
  8. Only two players from the class of 2009 have left. The rest are either greyshirting or working with the NCAA to become eligible. Sometimes the high school counselers don't know what they're doing, especially if they are at a school that doesn't produce many D-1 recruits.
  9. Well, we're pretty much guaranteed to win now. PSU fans on the Scout board have started a Look-a-like thread.
  10. $202 million of our capital campaign consisted of a single gift for our engineering program, from one small software company with no connections with the university but they just liked what they saw.
  11. http://www.nacubo.org/Images/All%20Institu..._2007%20NES.pdf2007 endowment numbers:Ohio University: $207.7 millionUniversity of Akron: $168.1 millionAre you just making up numbers?
  12. The boycott is not a complete boycott, but one where the schools choose not to fill out a certain section (the "reputation" section, or whatever it's called) where you rate schools by how "prestegious" they are within the academic community. It counts for 25% of the overall score. Stanford, who had lots to gain from something like that, is the school that organized the boycott.Anyway, I question the methodology of these ranking services. What is their criteria? They all exist to sell their own magazines.
  13. Even worse, Graham Watson (the "others" blogger for non-BCS schools) dosn't even rate her own blog this year. It's just lumped in with all of the other BCS blogs under the "National" blog (all of the BCS leagues still have their own individual blogs). So there wasn't enough readership of her blog with 54 schools in it to warrant having it stand on it's own? It's hard to have readership from 54 schools when you only cover four of them in depth and give the other ones token blurbs every once in a while.
  14. The USNWR is being boycotted by over 75% of all universities and colleges in the US. It's nothing more than a popularity contest between a certain circle of schools.
  15. The ESPN blog has seriously deteriorated in quality compared to last year. Between this and the Big East blogger counting Akron as an automatic win along with 1-AA Maine today, it shows a lack of research being done on the subjects.
  16. Or we could just talk about the Zips more often. Talk about them enough and Zipsnation will eventually be brought up as a source of some information or something.
  17. Beacon Journal on Brian Wagner That's some very high praise.
  18. Delmonico was tabbed to be our top recruit by MAXPreps.comStill, we seem to be set at WR for the forseeable future.
  19. Their starting kicker just quit. They're down to one kicker on the roster.
  20. RACER, there's no beer sold at the stadium, except in the luxury boxes. So no underage drinking, or even overage drinking for that matter.
  21. What happened to his hair? Congratulations Nate!
  22. 2 weeks to go and nothing. Not a single known candidate besides Hunter.
  23. Surprised to see Hartwick picked second.Poor, poor FAU. Why did they ever join the MAC for soccer? It makes no sense from a competitive standpoint or a financial one.
  24. We're not in trouble if it's an "other". There are plenty of capable, and possibly great tailbacks on this team.Anyway, I think that Allen will be our leading rusher, but that Devoe will score more touchdowns.
  25. Student capacity is 5,500, and if we sell out even more because they'll open up the endzone hill.Hopefully the students that post here can try to spread the word about needing a student ticket.
