  1. The year before coach Kest arrived, attendance averaged 293. Last year it was 679. Establish a winning culture, and attendance more than doubles. But it takes time to see results. One winning year doesn't improve attendance, but several in a row will.
  2. One final hurdle, but it's a very good YSU team.
  3. Zips win 73-64 and improve to 9-0.
  4. Up 14 points with 4 minutes to go. UCF hasn't let the game really get out of hand, but never really put together enough of a challenge to take control from the Zips.
  5. Zips up 63-51 with 7:36 to go.
  6. Maybe we should try scoring.
  7. Plus some greyshirts, assuming they fared well in their academic pursuits this semester.
  8. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/high-school/ohio-high-school/2014/12/03/ap-ohio-high-school-football-list/19865677/ Jacob was named 1st-team All-Ohio.
  9. JUCO WR Michael Means (formerly of Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller HS) has committed to the Zips!
  10. Give me a break. Even foul counts mean absolutely nothing. They can even be a sign of bad officiating, if the refs want to maintain an even number of fouls even when one team is brutalizing the other. Fouls called at the wrong time disrupt momentum, like when one team is trying to mount a comeback.
  11. Aside from the charges and Pat's "palming" call, there were more than a few times a Zip was called for a block when they were standing perfectly vertical under the basket with both feet set, and the MTSU ball handler literally jumped into them, making contact while in the air, knocking the Zip down. Normally that's not something I get too upset over, but when that's how you call it on one end, and then you call a bunch of charges on the other end for the same situation, I start to think that something is fishy.
  12. MTSU's coach has a tendency to yank players immediately when they make a mistake, and MTSU is a young team, so this happens often. If Akron's guards are up to playing the pickpocket role tonight, they can prevent MTSU from gaining any kind of rhythm. Their coach also has a reputation for getting technicals, or at least that's what MTSU fans are saying. Rowdies (if there are any left on campus), do your thing.
  13. It may have been a mirage early, but during this stretch, the team is building chemistry and gaining confidence, and getting excellent coaching.
  14. Updated the list with Lockett, and added some missing profiles for the other recruits.
  15. Yep. And that's an important metric to show that the program is stable. It'a a luxury that comes from having depth.
  16. ESPN will soon be paying UA $1 million per year to upgrade streaming capabilities to ESPN3 standards. Until that money starts flowing, don't expect much in the way of upgrades.
  17. http://www.hustlebelt.com/akron-zips/2014/12/10/7372981/2015-akron-football-recruiting-ath-vince-lockett-commits-to-zips/in/5564023 Posting this on my phone, so will update the list later.
  18. The problem with the MAC is that whenever a bottom-feeder gets good, some other good team falls into the abyss. It's cyclical.
  19. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20141210/FREE/141219985/university-of-akron-to-receive-1-25-million-gift-from-the-lennon $1.25 million gift to renovate the main entrance to ASEC.
  20. First, they would need to find a conference willing to take them. Second, their athletic budget would need to double, at minimum.
  21. It's where Pints was.
  22. Nobody makes a major jump straight from the MAC (or the Sunbelt), though. You have to go through C-USA first.
  23. Move it to the spring, then. Trade seasons with Baseball.
  24. Good thing about scheduling MAC schools is that there's a lot of them in a very small area. We only need one or two a year in football, and two or three in basketball to put together a decent schedule.
  25. We could play the Wagon Wheel game in September. Definitely wouldn't hurt attendance. Actually, it makes it easier to schedule non-conference games in both football and basketball, because you're suddenly surrounded by similar teams from a different conference. You can get home-and-homes with BG, Can't, Miami, or whoever.
