  1. Probably looking up more people to call technical fouls on.
  2. Basketball talent level is one thing. The ability to be a floor general is another. This teams needs someone with both.
  3. Free tuition, huh? Considering how much it has ballooned recently, there should be 20,000 students packed into the stadium on Tuesday.
  4. First, you assume that the report is accurate. Second, it's only a violation if the source of the info can be traced back to the health care organization where he was receiving treatment. If it came from himself, by telling friends or family who then spread it around, it's not.
  5. It always seemed to me that Pat just needed to get out of his own head and play the game.
  6. I wonder what his take on global warming is.
  7. A great story courtesy of Hustlebelt
  8. Given the schedule, this should be the expectation.
  9. Absolutely.
  10. Bad teams beat themselves. Akron is playing a bad team. Akron needs to not also be a bad team, and they will win.
  11. Where'd the defense go?
  12. Everybody assumes that it's 100% on Bowden. What about AJ Milwee? The combination Offensive Coordinator / QB coach that works with these players every day? Maybe Milwee is pushing for things that he sees in practice or something. Whatever is happening, Bowden needs to see what is happening and make a decision. Pick a QB and stick with him. Don't think Pohl is getting the job done or that Woodson can do it better? Then go with Woodson. Think they are about even? Go with Pohl and work with Woodson to groom him to take over at a point where it doesn't disrupt a promising season.
  13. Heard some Rowdies are making the trip. Hopefully they give the team a boost.
  14. Suck it up, everyone. We weren't going 10-2 (sorry, Cody). This thread is embarrassing.

  17. You're bound to get angry at student attendance if you are looking at the wrong sections. Students sit on the left side of the band (looking from across the field). I don't know why they decided to move the band one section over from last season, but it pushed the students over one section as well, and left a void in the sections near the hill. Also doesn't help that the band requires the front three rows of that empty section roped off so they can get onto the field for their halftime lullaby. The students would happily move on that side if they were allowed to sit near the field. Why do these student attendance problems always trace back to the band forcing students out of their sections? Same thing in basketball.
  18. http://mac-sports.com/custompages/stats/2014FB/confldrs.htm A few things stand out. Akron is 1 of 10 on 4th down conversion attempts. We're the most penalized team in the conference, by far, but opponents get penalized more than usual when they play us. Refs just seem to get whistle-happy when the Zips are on the field. They're not necessarily biased against Akron, as they call more penalties on both teams. This is a trend across all sports, as basketball and soccer fans can attest. It may be one of the reasons we struggle with attendance. Something is fishy here. Does Akron have a reputation in officiating circles that sets them on edge during Zips games, creating a feedback loop? Akron leads the MAC in turnover margin and in sacks, and it's not remotely close. A product of the defense's aggression. Kicking is a conference-wide problem this season. It's perplexing.
  19. Keep in mind... it was about a year ago that the team started to win. The last 12 games, Akron is 8-4. It's going to take more than two good half-seasons to make up for nearly a decade of disappointment and misery. Not without a true star player to rally around, anyway.
  20. He's not so old that it's not practical for him to take on another rebuilding project at a big school.
  21. As I type this, the top two threads on bobcatattack are titled "We suck" and "We don't suck". Zips should be favored to win this one.
  22. Maybe it's time for a new calculator. They have 14 goals in 10 games.
  23. Not all at once.
  24. Miami's defense is giving up 33 points per game. That's better than EMU, but significantly worse than any other FBS opponent we've faced. In fact, Akron has faced three top-20 defenses in points allowed already this year (PSU #10, Marshall #12, Pitt #19). Miami allows 180 yards per game on the ground and 4.7 ypc. Establish the run, and Akron will have no difficulty putting up points. As for defending Miami, they are not good at converting 3rd downs, their QB likes (or is often forced to) to scramble, and they aren't great in the red zone. Just from looking at their stats, it appears to me that they tend to put up points on big passing plays. Limit the shots down field, blitz the QB and keep a spy on him in case he scrambles, and you've effectively shut down their offense. It may appear that Miami's offense is really dangerous, but in reality the first time they broke 30 points was against UMass. I see Akron winning 42-24.
  25. Scout is the absolute worst at reporting recruiting news for any school outside the perrenial top-25 teams. I hardly bother with them anymore.
