You, and us, should be pissed. The announcing was terrible. They ignored the game and multiple story lines that any professional team would have relished as fodder for enriching the broadcast. I like Dakich as a radio personality, but as an analyst he only cared about himself and his stories. He failed to make the game the story.

I trust the staff to find the best person for the job too. Gibson is no answer unless he improves significantly. Kato will have to be the best version of himself to win the job. He will have to be committed to competition. That is something he has shown little appetite for in the past. Yet the talent we have coming in and Maroucek (sp?) may give us the upgrade we must have to even win three games. We will go no further than the QB position takes us. That is priority # 1.

It looks to me that we lucked out in losing a guy who didn't have the temperament and probably the talent to be a Zip. I see this as positive. It frees up a scholly.

What a game. So much to comment on. My new hero is Willie Coleman of our Alumni office for taking Dan Dakich to task for seemingly only talking about his time at BG while analyzing the Akron-Kent game. Well done Willie! I thought it was crude of Dakich to call out Pippen repeatedly for poor play. He made it personal and college kids don't deserve that. Be objective and let his play speak for itself. I did not join the chorus of concerns over LCJ's play against Toledo. Not because I didn't agree, but because there was too much angst. In the second half he reverted to his poor Toledo performance. He started looking only for himself and repeatedly drove the lane, with no openings, and turnovers resulted. When the team stops moving and looks to LCJ to do something we can be beat. When everyone is moving we are damn near unstoppable. Wynn has earned the right to start. Groce is a pleasure to watch. He is always prepared and rarely, if ever, outreached. If we have issues he will solve them.

I think we are all with you in that a balance has to be struck. Right now we need talent that can improve the team and win a few. We are not getting that with incoming freshmen, but have a chance within the transfer portal. After experiencing a 0-12 season Jake's 2-10 season makes me jealous. Never thought I'd say that! Geesh!

He looked like an intriguing project. Does anyone out there have a good handle on exactly how good this young man was? I hate to lose someone who was 2 time all-state and came from a high school that expected to dominate.

There's not much to get excited about in our signings today. I hope and pray that the staff is saving some schoolies for the transfer portal and the grad transfers that are becoming more and more prominent. We flat out do not have the time to wait for 3 or 4 years for "Our Way" freshmen to fill out our roster with 85 scholies. The number of potential starters must be improved now. Even if we do that we will not win more than 3-4 games next season, but that is enough to give hope to the faithful. The lifeblood of every successful program is recruiting. This staff needs to show they can get talent.

Hopefully he isn't an English teacher. That could explain a lot.
-
Does this dad realize that at Akron the main language is English? It could be a problem when he visits his son and goes to order a beer. Zipmeister, you were in academia. Be an interpreter.

I have a stack of "affaDavids" that state Groce was leading in the poll by a huge margin as we went to bed. I also have lined up a NY attorney, with dye streaming down his face, ready to attack anyone who disputes the lead. Only one slight problem, he farts a lot and charges $20,000/day. That should be no problem since Dr. Z and Cast Kangaroo can take it out of ZipsNation's petty cash. Stop the Steal!
-
It is obvious we need to do everything we can to keep coach Groce. Williams will do whatever president Miller lets him. I can't see Williams bucking Miller for the sake of the future of the program. Williams is in survivor mode. Groce may want to stay if a bright future can be painted for him such as facility improvement, scheduling, recruiting budget, assistants' pay, maybe conference realignment (I admit that's a stretch). But I have no doubt that he will leave one day to coach in a high profile program. I think he needs the challenge and wants to prove it to himself.

2021 Zips spring mens soccer schedule
72 Roo replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Also why not let those who can produce a COVID vaccination card attend any athletic event, especially one outside and wearing masks to set a good example? -
I hear this Arth is far better than the previous Arth. He's learned so much more and has more experience!

When you are in a total rebuild there are many factors that limit a linear progression in games won. You have to rebuild the base first such as recruits, culture, expectations. That being said coach has had the time to do all that. He has to put some W's up. I expect 3-4 wins next season despite a killer schedule.

I think Tyrrell is ready to be a MAC OC. His play calling is exceptional. You never know what he is going to do (In other words the complete opposite of Milwee, had to get that dig in, he has left so many scars on my brain). I've seen a dozen games of coach Tyrrell and he has yet to be second best in anything.

I like Hardline but we can't afford him. My first choice, though, is Vince Kehres, former Mount HC and currently on the staff of UC under Fickel. He knows the area, understands the opportunity to build a legacy here, like his dad did at Mount and he knows how to win with class. Before hiring him I would fire Williams and find an AD who stood behind his coaches and was willing to fight for each program. Williams has screwed nearly every program at Akron at one time or another to stay in vogue with the administration.

The transfer portal is new to college football and to us. There is nothing out of the ordinary in the Akron players who want to transfer out. It hasn't worked for them here and they are doing something about it. Since the portal is new some see use of it as an indictment of our program. It isn't. These guys just want to get more playing time and they know that's not likely here, so out they go. We are not losing difference makers and there is every indication that we will be better for the transfer outs. Schollies and/or resources will be freed up to be used on better talent. Take a deep breath and go have a beer. We are getting better. It's too slow for me, but we are getting better.

Hate to see him go. I thought he could provide a lot of leadership and passion to the team next season. I agree that he was not going to get a lot of PT as a running back, but I feel his best position is as an H back, capable of running or receiving out of the slot. I wish him well and hope he experiences winning somewhere. Thanks for being a Zip Boogie.
-
Can't blame him. The handwriting was on the wall. Thank you Tyler for the time you were here. I hope he finds a good fit.
-
I did not know he missed practices and workouts. I went players who are glad to be at Akron and want to make it better any way they can. I am not as close to the team as apparently others are. I'm thrilled to lose a cancer. The only thing that bothers me is if any player disrespects a coach that player should be gone. Arth needs to make that abundantly clear. Set an example if he must, but zero tolerance for disrespect. If you want to change the culture of an organization you must change the behavior first.
-
I thank him for his time at Akron and wish him luck. Wherever he goes I hope he earns playing time and enjoys his career. Here his PT was limited and not likely to grow without a lot of hard work. Even with that he was competing against talented teammates who want to play and work just as hard as he does. Best of luck Julian.

I hope you are right, but, respectfully, I don't t think so. Giving the reins to the team to Kato means we have the same problem again the next season. Gibson, on the other hand, collapses under pressure. There will always be pressure in the MAC. He does not display the ability to carry a team when needed. A QB has to be able to do that occasionally. Gibson needs everyone around him to be at their best so he can be at his best. Intellectually he may have a good grasp of the offense but he did not show it with his decision making. Perhaps he can in the future. We just need better QB-ing. I do believe the competition for the job next season will make the position better.
-
Tell your "friend" to go for it. He/She will need much "hydration" to get thru the day. Go Zips, Bearcats and, yes, even Buckeyes!
-
Damn! I was hoping Milwee would get the job and then we would schedule them for a sure W. Terry may realize he made a mistake once before and never corrected it by removing Milwee.
