  1. Also why not let those who can produce a COVID vaccination card attend any athletic event, especially one outside and wearing masks to set a good example?
  2. I hear this Arth is far better than the previous Arth. He's learned so much more and has more experience!
  3. When you are in a total rebuild there are many factors that limit a linear progression in games won. You have to rebuild the base first such as recruits, culture, expectations. That being said coach has had the time to do all that. He has to put some W's up. I expect 3-4 wins next season despite a killer schedule.
  4. I think Tyrrell is ready to be a MAC OC. His play calling is exceptional. You never know what he is going to do (In other words the complete opposite of Milwee, had to get that dig in, he has left so many scars on my brain). I've seen a dozen games of coach Tyrrell and he has yet to be second best in anything.
  5. I like Hardline but we can't afford him. My first choice, though, is Vince Kehres, former Mount HC and currently on the staff of UC under Fickel. He knows the area, understands the opportunity to build a legacy here, like his dad did at Mount and he knows how to win with class. Before hiring him I would fire Williams and find an AD who stood behind his coaches and was willing to fight for each program. Williams has screwed nearly every program at Akron at one time or another to stay in vogue with the administration.
  6. The transfer portal is new to college football and to us. There is nothing out of the ordinary in the Akron players who want to transfer out. It hasn't worked for them here and they are doing something about it. Since the portal is new some see use of it as an indictment of our program. It isn't. These guys just want to get more playing time and they know that's not likely here, so out they go. We are not losing difference makers and there is every indication that we will be better for the transfer outs. Schollies and/or resources will be freed up to be used on better talent. Take a deep breath and go have a beer. We are getting better. It's too slow for me, but we are getting better.
  7. Hate to see him go. I thought he could provide a lot of leadership and passion to the team next season. I agree that he was not going to get a lot of PT as a running back, but I feel his best position is as an H back, capable of running or receiving out of the slot. I wish him well and hope he experiences winning somewhere. Thanks for being a Zip Boogie.
  8. Can't blame him. The handwriting was on the wall. Thank you Tyler for the time you were here. I hope he finds a good fit.
  9. I did not know he missed practices and workouts. I went players who are glad to be at Akron and want to make it better any way they can. I am not as close to the team as apparently others are. I'm thrilled to lose a cancer. The only thing that bothers me is if any player disrespects a coach that player should be gone. Arth needs to make that abundantly clear. Set an example if he must, but zero tolerance for disrespect. If you want to change the culture of an organization you must change the behavior first.
  10. I thank him for his time at Akron and wish him luck. Wherever he goes I hope he earns playing time and enjoys his career. Here his PT was limited and not likely to grow without a lot of hard work. Even with that he was competing against talented teammates who want to play and work just as hard as he does. Best of luck Julian.
  11. I hope you are right, but, respectfully, I don't t think so. Giving the reins to the team to Kato means we have the same problem again the next season. Gibson, on the other hand, collapses under pressure. There will always be pressure in the MAC. He does not display the ability to carry a team when needed. A QB has to be able to do that occasionally. Gibson needs everyone around him to be at their best so he can be at his best. Intellectually he may have a good grasp of the offense but he did not show it with his decision making. Perhaps he can in the future. We just need better QB-ing. I do believe the competition for the job next season will make the position better.
  12. Tell your "friend" to go for it. He/She will need much "hydration" to get thru the day. Go Zips, Bearcats and, yes, even Buckeyes!
  13. Damn! I was hoping Milwee would get the job and then we would schedule them for a sure W. Terry may realize he made a mistake once before and never corrected it by removing Milwee.
  14. Our defense just got better. If the transfer portal gods are good to us with a few DB's and DL's we will be on track to win more than 3 games next season. The rebuild continues and it holds some promise, but all will be for naught if we can't improve at QB.
  15. Can't agree with you more. Improving our play at QB will improve the team more than any other area of concern. We must look outside our current starter. We need to be better at decision-making and athleticism. A viable dual threat QB has become the standard for winning college programs. I have great hopes for the guys coming in and would like to see Marousek get more exposure/coaching.
  16. Well folks, that certifies it. Butch Jones is an idiot. He did not do his homework.
  17. Merry Christmas to all on this board, to those who agree with me and those who make me think with different views. This an enjoyable place to go when you are just looking for Zip information or entertainment. In a year that has made us try to find the best version of ourselves just to get through I am grateful for this board. Thanks to the intrepid group that brought ZNO to life. Be well and Go Zips! The best is yet to come.
  18. Congrats to Terry. I think he has a unique ability to rebuild programs so ULM may be a great fit for him. I always liked Terry. The one thing about him that stood out to me was that he genuinely wanted to be in Akron. Unfortunately another thing also stood out to me which was he could not make necessary changes in his staff that would have kept the program growing. Milwee was obviously out of his depth, but so were others. I supported releaving him of his duties as HC, but I'll always like the guy.
  19. Can any informed board contributor tell me what is the status of Aziz, our 7 footer from Africa?
  20. I hope one of the old band that he brings on board is Milwee as his OC. In which case I want to play them as soon as possible because we already know all three plays he runs. Rumor has it Milwee has grown professionally since leaving UA and isp to four plays.
  21. If he can play let's pull out all the stops and get him. We need immediate impact players.
  22. This kind of tweet borders on cheap. Why send it? Just move on if you think you can do better. But is UNC really better? Maybe he likes to ski and the challenging peaks and back bowls of Boston Mills weren't enough.
  23. What, pray tell O wise one, is the meaning of the asterisk?
  24. I don't know what to think of this class. Priority #1 was to improve at QB. I believe they did that. But I'm not sure about priorities # 2 & #3, DL and DB. We can't get much worse there so we can only go up, but I did not see immediate help. I'm with those of you urging Arth & Company to go the transfer/Grad student/JUCO route. I have no inside knowledge, but I believe he will do that. He has scholarships left. If we are to get to 4-5 wins next season he has to bring in immediate help. The fun thing about signing day is that hope is given to all fans. We need it.
  25. I admire Dennison greatly. He is a great guy and good to all he meets. He was always very kind to me. But he was not as successful as some may believe. While in the OVC he had a losing record against the better coaches, Roy Kidd at EKU, Boots Donnelly at MTSU, Jim Feix at WKU and Frank Beamer at Murray State. He beat up Tenn Tech, Morehead, Austin Peay, YSU, etc. Yet against the best he lost regularly. He did the best with what he had but he was not ready for D1 football. We needed to look elsewhere. As a man he will always stand tall in my eyes. Despite his record I regard him as a credit to the Akron coaching brotherhood.
